unplayable game

after 5 yrs of playing this game there is absolutely no support for wvw and this continous lag fest because they will not address the amount of players on a map. ie: ebg the imagination behind this game must see the day where either you make more than one instance of a bl or ebg there is no hope for this problem. in 2020 the hardcore players of this game should not have to endure this year in and year out. address the problem and stop ignoring it.

OR you can suck it up and deal with it like we all have to, and stop being mad that the game mode is being played because if it wasn't we'd be in a similar situation with raids. We have a good population now; I like that and it feels good that so many people are playing. MAYBE NOW we will get some developers and content (Not little things like legendaries and skins) but maps and other REALLY new features thrown at us. WvW needs a ton of QoL they need better maps (Red is ok, has some issues but alpine is too.... flat? And EB Is kinda.... well a different beast.) The way to fix what your asking for is making more maps, perhaps netural maps like EB. Hell they could bring in Edge of the mists in as a map to run on conjunction with EB and we could have them both there so that way we can split the populace a bit and ease the load?

The key to fixing your issue is more maps, more spaces and more for the game mode in general. Telling them that you're mad about the amount of people on the map, and telling them to make instances of it wont solve anything. (It would only compound the issue and make instance stacking a thing, which would be HORRIBLE and would break the game mode as points must be kept.)

They aren't mad about the game mode being well populated but about the lack of improvement regarding server performance.

Fixing the performance issue is probably beyond what ANet can do, as it probably goes back the whole way to the basic structure design of the game.

what is feasible is to reduce map capacity numbers until performance doesn't halt to a grind when three teams clash. But then these forums would be full of complains about how this mode doesn't feel "massive" enough and the huge queue times, so they wouldn't win anyway.

The lack of performance is tied to the amount of number crunching that needs be done for every single hit, as conditions and boons all influence heavily these numbers in a dynamic way. If damage/reductions multipliers were fixed for each player at engage time, it'd be a lot easier to have massive level engagements with reduced overhead.

however, if one considers that even each bleeding tick must be calculated individually per player source, since their might boon amount might have changed, then the battle computations scale up horribly.

Could we even fathom a WvW in which there are no might or vulnerability or other short term temporary damage modifiers in order to improve performance?

While the internet is experiencing much heavier traffic than usual due to the coronavirus quarantine, certain games seem to be hit harder by it than others. During large-scale PVE events, I quite literally have up to ten seconds or more of delay between skill press and execution. I even managed to miss out on a chest on Tequatl because I couldn't hit anything during the defense phase.

I realize this isn't an easy fix, especially considering GW2 is built upon layers of duct-taped legacy code, but perhaps this could be a good opportunity to do a code efficiency review? We all want the game to be viable for as long as possible, and the coronavirus quarantine might be around longer than we'd like, too. I'm all for half-measures in the short time, as suggested by Skotlex.
