Hi Guys.

I am working on warbringer atm. but "Skirmish Claim Ticket" is really killing me. on my play time is rare to find a commander to lead, it make really hard to lvl skirmish chests. ( i got around 80 ticket per week )is there any method to speed that up? (i already eat food to boost up wvw exp)

Thanks

@"Jayden Reese.9542" said:Pips he means. No, it is based on your rank(bronze/silver) if your team is winning the current skirmish you get extra. If you find outnumbered map you get 5 extra per 5 minutes. If you low rank it is very hard to finish Diamond w/o playing 20+ hours a week

+1 for finishing at least the first chest the previous week

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Special:RunQuery/WvW_skirmish_pip_query is useful for calculating time requirements for both pips and reward tracks

I stopped WvW because of this. Was trying to get legendary armor but realized a few months in that it sucked. Now I play occasionally and have given up on anything achievement based because it isn't long term goals, it's grind. Grind is not gaming. Time gated currency is grind and not a useful mechanic.

i gave up the wvw legendary armor really early. there is no way i can get rank 2000 . i am not a hard core wvw player. but i am a veteran, for 5 years played time. i still havent get to rank 600.

Not a big fan of this system either. Its just painful to have currency linked to a timegated tick rate just so you can artificially inflate playtime on a mode the vast majority finds boring. Thats not how to solve the problem. It makes you play it less rather, except of course when you need the tickets or the reward track.

To be clear, you don't need to be rank 2000 to get the basic set of legendary armor. That's just for the fancier set with an animation when you enter combat. If you just go for the Triumphant Hero's armor (as opposed to the Mistforged version), rank doesn't matter. Mind you, it's still a massive amount of tickets and WvW to get the pieces, but it's not "Reach rank 2000 before you start."

As others have said, your best bets for speeding it up are finding outnumbered maps and making sure to at least finish Wood IV for the +1 commitment pip. Otherwise, it's just a matter of spending more time there.

Good luck!

What Bright Oblivion.2856 said.

The regular WvW legendary armor costs 7,880 Skirmish Claim tickets and has no rank requirement. That's still a ton of weeks though, even more for players who have limited amount of time.

General advice was already given, let me summarize some of it:

  • get wood chest minimum the week before for the additional pip
  • play on outnumbered maps for the additional +5 pips, learn to roam or just afk camp flip (though that will get very boring)
  • try to "clump" your game time if possible since the first reward tick will not yield pips

Warbringer costs a total of 2,800 Skirmish Claim Tickets. If we assume an average pip reward tick of 5 (second warscore realm is 4, +1 from previous week wood chest, no rank upgrade even if rank 150 is rather fast to get) this comes to around 60 pips per hour. That's 420 pips per week, meaning around 1/4 into gold chest (if you manage to squeeze in a bit more time to get gold done, even better). That's around 100 skirmish claim tickets per week. Around 28 weeks needed at 1 hour per day play.

Or the best solution of all:Get your wife to play WvW with you. That should cut down on the time significantly. ;)

Excellent advices. I can only add - escort dolyaks. If you are in a peacefull map (the enemy is not very active) you can do this. It is not a very challenging activity but it keeps your participation up. And you have an achievement for this.

If you manage to bring your wife in game, you will have an easier life (in WvW I mean). 2 players are already a small roaming team =)

@yorick.1305 said:I got over 28k of these things and I don't bother with that^ or the armor , still costs a fair bit in mats.

Congratulations =) You can craft 3 complete sets of 2k rank legendary armor. If you want 6 (like me) and 8 backpaks and 9 trinkets you will see that you don't have enough (like I found).

Inflating playtime is one part of it, yes, this is an MMO afterall, but compared to Raiding and PvP where you actually have to 'win' to progress, in WvW you get pips just for standing in a map and moving every few minutes so you don't get booted for AFK. All you need to do is maintain participation so you keep getting pips, and then you get your reward.

And considering maintaining is as easy as attacking the walls of an enemy tower/keep with a Treb, or just tagging a downed enemy player that was fought by your team, it is possible to earn a full set of legendary armor by literally doing nothing of importance. That is why (I believe anyways) it takes the longest to complete in WvW as compared to the other two game modes.

It's a loooong and continuous Grind with those Tickets.I'm currently trying to make a Legendary armor set. I had everything I needed but those Tickets, Eventually I got my first piece and I already feel drained. It sucks that you have to play long hours for months on end to complete enough chests for one armor set. As it is now I'm just doing the bare minimum trying to grind out the chests and then logging off the game entirely for the rest of the week.

If if is that bad don't do it. I mean unless you constantly need to swap stats it's just status. I had the tickets forever because I like WvW but I have never even changed stats so it's just a really expensive piece of ascended

I would if I hadn't have crafted everything else already, plus I'm too suborn

I didnt say it isnt easy, and difficulty is not the issue anyway. Then again in between all the activities the game has to offer it is mind boggling to me why the skirmish tracks reset after a week already. Obviously the best chest is the last one with approx 90 tickets in total, thats around as much as the first three grant together. If i play wvw every evening i can get all of them, even as a lvl 1 with a worst case minimum of three pips per tick, but most other activities will have to wait. (My evening schedule right now consists of 3 pvp matches, some minor achievements and fractal cms+dailies+recs.)Now i dont have to reach the last chest of course, i can just get as many as my time allows me to, but why has it to be so much more demanding to reach the last wvw chest compared to the pvps final chest for example? It would be better to let the track last longer with much more chests to open than what we have right now. That would make it less stressful and as a long term goal much more balanced. And if your guess is correct then it is even more questionable that i can do - as you say - literally nothing of importance to earn pips and so the drawback is that i have to play wvw much more concentrated or longer than anything else. Seems like really bad design to me.Its also a non-argument, saying that mmos generally have to artificially inflate playtime and therefor anything that consumes time is well designed. I have envoy and gwamm, both were fun to achieve. Even fractal god, which i am working on right now, is more exciting than keeping up participation by destroying walls, roaming back and forth inbetween locations in maps that almost always look the same anywhere you go or following the blob to mindlessly tag enemies that get overwhelmed by a bigger force. Its just not fun, and tbh i find it astounding (and admirable) that there are people who actually enjoy this game mode.

Nor did I, so why bother pointing that out?

I've already explained why. You say you do 3 PvP matches per night. Do some quick math and figure out how long it would take you to complete the Byz chest by playing 3 matches per night with a 0% win rate, a 50% win rate, and a 100% win rate. There is a clear difference between the three, which doesn't even take into account your tier.

You will notice in WvW there is no such difference. If you solo roam and kill everything you see, join a 50+blob and paper the enemy borderlands, or if you sit in SMC repairing the walls as they get trebbed, all 3 activities will maintain your participation to the level that you get pips every 5-mins. The modifiers for extra pips are outside of your immediate control, barring completing wood the previous week, with the rest being outnumbered boon, your server's position in the fight, and your personal WvW rank.

PvP players have only a skill floor that dictates the pace of how they earn rewards.WvW players have a skill floor and a skill ceiling, and that is to maintain a min of Tier 3 participation. That's it.

PvP players with a high win ratio (because presumably skill, right?) will complete their season chest faster and with less matches, or can repeat that final chest over and over again for additional rewards. What dictates the speed at which a WvW player completes their chests is tied to their WvW rank, their server's standing, whether or not they play on outnumbered maps and/or if they choose to tag up and command a squad. What part of any of that equates to skill or effort if the pip reward is the same for a player sitting on a Treb in a tower pinging SMC vs. a player following a commander to farm bags in the enemy garrison for half an hour?

So why should the reward-to-effort ratio be the same given those circumstances? Welcome to the human condition, where society caters to the lowest common denominator.

@Clyan.1593 said:And if your guess is correct then it is even more questionable that i can do - as you say - literally nothing of importance to earn pips and so the drawback is that i have to play wvw much more concentrated or longer than anything else. Seems like really bad design to me.

No design is perfect. Is it right that the bulk of the top PvP rankings are just a handful of players w/ alt accounts? Seems like really bad design to me.

@Clyan.1593 said:Its also a non-argument, saying that mmos generally have to artificially inflate playtime and therefor anything that consumes time is well designed.

Who said MMOs are well designed? But to believe for a second that this isn't how MMOs operate is just choosing to be ignorant.

@Clyan.1593 said:I have envoy and gwamm, both were fun to achieve.

Fun is subjective. I don't find sPvP fun, while others play 20 matches a day. I could also easily search and find many posts from players complaining about how tedious gwamm was to get. Are they wrong or are you wrong?

So you're saying that you don't like game mode as designed, but that has nothing to do with rewards. If they tripled the tickets you got, you would still not like the game mode, and you would just have to spend less time there. Why would an ANET developer then want to accommodate you? Why would they make changes to make it easier for you play WvW less and earn more rewards at the same time? If anything they would want you to slog it out, spend more time in the mode, in the hopes that you might find some aspect of the mode that you enjoy, and begin to play there more. If not, and you choose to just stay out of WvW completely, then neither ANET or the WvW game mode has lost anything.

Skirmish tickets are awful. It takes so long to earn any of them-- nowhere else in the game is anything so heavily timegated. Assuming you earn 10 pips a tick, it takes like 24 12 hours of play to earn all of the tickets

What can you do with 365 tickets or even 1000? If you don't want legendaries or trinkets, you also just pile them up and have them do nothing. Would you buy an ascended salvage kit or canned food (lol) with tickets. Ascended weapons/armor sounds good but it's ruined by the useless mark system.

Actually the cost of WvW things in general has to be reevaluated. The fact that regular siege blueprints are sold for 2 laurels or 12s just comes across as a noob/misclick trap. This has nothing to do with "gimme da shiny" but rather yet another aspect where WvW simply hasn't kept up with the game as a whole because they consider it a mini-game and not a real game mode.

You are going to hate me, but I have all the WvWvW legendary tier 3 armor sets (heavy, medium and light), the Warbringer and Conflux. And I still have tons of gold left and ~8k unused tickets. This is all from WvWvW.

It is possible do this with full time work, wife, lots of small (and very demanding) kids and less than 10 h free time per week. Let me explain how I did it:

  1. Always do the WvWvW dailies, unless you can only play like 5-10 minutes that day (then need to optimize to get 3 dailies done. My fastest 3 dailies in 3-4 mins).
  2. Always keep your participation at max, even when you need to go AFK (I need to do that all the time, like change diapers, feed the kids, check them etc).
  3. Get yourself a commander tag. Tag up. You get way more pips if you have a public squad with 10+ players and your server benefits.
  4. Flip lots of camps , sentries, heal team mates and kill enemy players. Capturing just one camp or killing just one enemy player will keep your participation at max.
  5. Always carry full supplies and full selection of siege blueprints (they are cheap at trading post, buy them with gold). You will need these to take down enemy siege and to solo build siege.
  6. If you need extra pips, play on an outnumbered map. If you server doesn't offer outnumbered maps on your play time, maybe you are playing on wrong (too full) server. I don't do this, because I get enough pips for full diamond almost always anyways.
  7. Learn to flip ANY objective alone. Yes, even keeps can be soloed and you can do that using sub optimal core build. I almost fully play only my own core builds. I even use core food, since I am cheap and I like core. Stone Mist Castle is theoretically possible to solo, but in reality enemy defenders will come for you before you get to solo down the legendary castle lord. So basically you need some allies for the big shiny castle and I would recommend that for keeps as well.
  8. Learn to tag enemies, enemy towers, keeps. You will get participation even if you don't alone do the job.
  9. Use experience boosters e.g. a birthday booster. Don't forget to use consumables (I'm fine with cheap core foods).
  10. Play a build you like to play, even if all others tell you it is not good and you should play meta. This must be fun or just quit the game.
  11. Learn to do things others generally don't do, e.g. roam without ANY stealth, teleports, block, evade or no other easy "get free" card and go behind enemy lines, fight outnumbered, dive into enemy zergs alone without stability, blocks nor evades. This will keep the game fun and challenging, instead of boring.

Basically you can get last diamond chest in about 10 h of play per week if you are efficient. That is only about 1.5 h gaming/day. Not bad for an ONLY hobby (I can afford).
