Maybe I missed something from the dialogue or forgotten a piece of info from the last episode, but why are we all the way across in Woodland Cascades for a civil war for the Charr? Seems a tad out of the way and increasingly further away from Jormag's last known position

    A solid 17/20 from me.

Just some initial thoughts. At the point of typing this, I've completed the new story, taken a base, defended a base, and have done various map events such as escorts and others.

The map is amazing. When I heard about "WvW but in PvE", I was excited. I love large-scale meta maps that you don't just mindlessly zerg. Verdant Brink being one of my favorites. I can see Drizzlewood becoming my new favorite quite easily. But, I'm concerned about the longevity of the map. This probably on my mind since I enjoy Verdant Brink so much and we all know how difficult it can be to get people interested in that map. It it takes too long people (sadly) won't bother with it unless the rewards are extra good. I'm not a rewards driven person. Mostly just something on my mind and something that was considered when designing what I would consider one of the most ambitious maps.

Taking a camp is a lot of fun. The more enemies the better!

Really, my main issue is the story. I actually always liked GW2's story despite the criticism. I still remember killing Zhaitan with my group and Fear Not This Night playing. The fight wasn't great, but I had loved everything up to that point that it became one of my favorite moments in gaming of all time. The story has gotten more "epic" since and has had its ups-and-downs. Enjoyed all of it! Certainly better than Battle for Azeroth's mess of a story that makes no sense.

Until you ruined Smodur. I have a Charr as my forum icon. Iron Legion is my favorite and my main Charr's legion. I'm the type of loser to type into /say, "Woo, go Iron Legion!" during Grothmar Valley events. I'm so disappointed in Smodur's character. He was always headstrong and kind of annoyingly arrogant. But, I've always liked him enough! After completing the new episode, I can't stand him. You made him short-sighted, stupid, and increased his already kind of annoying (but fitting) traits up to 11. This is the first time in the entirety of GW2's storytelling where I would legitimately suggest that I don't like it. Also, Crecia and Rytlock need to go on an overnight date or something to get this weird tension out of the way.

Overall, really enjoying the new content. Aside from the story for the first time.

yeah my feedback, will be as objective as possible

The map looks great, but i see area's for improvement.

    Center Screen messages:
We are used to that from other maps, but in this map, I get what, 5 to 10 every minute?
You obviously went overboard with those messages. This feels worse even than Lake Doric which is a map I systematically avoid due to those annoying messages

And what did you do? You made them bigger, WAY bigged. 4 line messages. Seriously?

    The events:

Some bosses have too many portal around to too many high places, you feel you're chasing them for no reason but the chase.
It's frustrating that a boss stands on top of a tower, you have only minutes left to finish, you finally reach him, just to see him port to the other side of the camp to another high tower. Come on, seriously? Once or twice ok, but this boss (forgot the name, was in Leadfoot Village) ported at least 7 times during the event.

What I do not like as well: you again came up with a way to let us train something before we can use it: Waypoints, or in this case Waystations.
Seriously? What is up with that? Are you out of good ideas for masteries? What is next, a map where we need to train something to be able to view vista's?

The positives: Good map, nice design. More than enough to do. (maybe a bit too much lol) A capping system like WvW would really be a nice addition.

But seriously: Remove the sheer amount of mid-screen messages... Please I beg you!

  • from the map's appearance enviornmentally wise, to the push and pull of the mechanics of the map... from the use of wvw seige and tactics, to the exploration of the map itself... the LW map in no quarter has check every box and filled every one of my expectations.
storywise, you really get the feel that this is in fact war. from the instances, you get a very hard take on what happens during a war, and on the outside while the instances are happening, the conversations and subtleties of the npc's on the map fill in where the story does not. also?
there is one npc that you did very well at making me instantly want to punch in the face repeatedly with a skale fin. thanks for that. and no i won't spoil who it is. great work anet... 100/100 the best work so far!

So I really enjoyed the story. It was a bit too short in my opinion considering how long we had to wait for it, but I suppose that can't be helped.

I have some other criticisms for this episode. Primarily in how muted the map feels. Without sound the Music and general ambiance doesn't pick of the slack which is a bit of an issue for me personally. Normally I don't notice it because of the voice acting but It does make the map feel very lonely. It would be nice if we got some better ambiance for the map or helped the atmosphere for future maps.

Left full feedback in the feedback thread someone else started.

It was a strong episode overall

  • Enjoying the story so far, haven't finished yet. That said there is one issue I feel I need to bring attention to. Hiding the skillbar (and other things) out of combat was a very nice QoL feature introduced a while back so if you're adding a mini-game requiring me to use my skillbar maybe you should force it to be visible. (I spent 10 minutes getting knocked around by the sunken submarines)

I love the new map and the region zones when looking at it on map level. I wish all maps showed the zones better.

I do think they missed out on something with the Dominion Propoganda Speakers. They should have all been elevated on trees and rock faces while making them targets so they can be destroyed with weapons. I haven't looked to deeply at it yet but if they don't have a achievement attached they should have. Maybe even a daily.

  • And so the race begins to finish this content in the least amount of hours or days. never ending race I might add. take your time and enjoy the ride.

Great map and design! Though a few hours after map launch, all outposts were captured by players, must've been a full instance

Any plans to allow players select sides like in competitive missions? Maybe align and fight for Bangar & the Dominion similar to Fort Aspenwood or even Jade Quarry? :)

  • For god's sake, how hard is it to add a skip button for dialogues? I mean, you had them in the original story when the game came out, why don't you just copy that concept for LS, too? I don't know about others, but for me, I'm not interested in the story one bit and sitting behind my screen for 5-10 minutes reading/listening to content I have absolutely no interest in is really making me want to shelf this game. That, and WvW lag, but that's another story.

  • just seen a little bit of Drizzlewood map. All the wvw and EOTM commanders looking for a change need to try this chapter out. Would like for the skill part of siege weapons to come back. they nerfed the blind shots that some people in wvw were doing with arrow carts and trebuchets. I say if you're good enough to make blind shots work so be it. Some of the trebuchet shots you could get someone to spot for you and let you know if you needed to adjust to really zero in your trebuchet. I thought that helped to get people to engage with each other more. hated they nerfed some of the distance on arrow carts they should give some of that range back to give people more options. but i was amazed at how good people were at taking blind shots. just helped out if your siege placement was off by a little bit you could still be effective and not have to waste a blueprint because of poor placement. Now with having to be line of sight to target. placement of blueprints became paramount not how good you were. just my opinion haven't tried it recently though.

I have to ad one tiny lil critisism to this story.
Without giving away but very last part: Why was the sound so obnoxiously loud? I mean...
OMG I had to rip off my headset to not go deaf, because I had not a second time to reach for the volume.

    Only one question:
    Why?

I love this episode! I wasn't too fond beforehand of the whole Charr civil war idea (what with whiny Rytlock and rebellious Ryland and all), but - burn me! - the execution of it was surprisingly good: dark, well written (except for my Commander still sounding like an uneducated redneck) and exciting to play through.

The map is also extremely well designed. The textures are beautiful and the events, although a bit much to take in at first, make the map seem alive and fun to explore. Looking forward to be doing all those achievements (5,000 seems like a lot... oof!).

Edit: Now that I have played through the meta cycle twice, I have to say that I dislike it a lot. It is too hectic by design. :-1:

I thought the killing of all those defectors and more seemed a bit out of character but more could be going on behind the scene. The whispers might have gotten to him, like most of us which I would wish somebody anybody would comment on. I find the plot of our thoughts being invaded and what we do about THAT than just blowing up the enemy (of course you can do both since its an action MMO) more interesting. You can't always use force to vanquish an enemy.

I wonder if a Khan-Ur plot is around the corner.

Well let's see, it's only been a day but.. Love the scenery, the constant action, Strike is lots of fun, and oh.. what else.. NEW TREES for Guild Hall. I am really excited.. (you could tell right?). Dwayna bless your Art Department! I haven't decided if I will wait for voice acting to be added in, or not. Still going like I always do, and following my nose. I'm really enjoying just wandering around, and beleive it or not, the added peril for winged mounts (no gonna spoil it) is really adding a nice sense of realism. For my part, I am loving the new Chapter. Won't lie, no voices in camp reminds me of the peril in real life. But that has to be for now. Thank you for this, the distraction is much appreciated.

Yes but the siege weapons are similar. It may get some wvw to dabble a bit more into story. On the flip side it could get some PvE players to explore wvw or its training grounds eotm. I haven't really gotten far into this but found myself doing what I first did in wvw running supply and following tags. couldn't do a whole lot but I could at least run supply or take supply Yaks at level 30 something and felt I was making a contribution in wvw.. I actually leveled up one character from 7 to 49 almost purely on wvw. Now only level 80s can play wvw so forcing everyone to play PvE til level 80, Is PvP that way as well now. have to have a level 80 to play PvP?

The change to the "Special Mission Documents" is a bit annoying. Sure, 2000 karma per document after completing a category was a bit excessive, but 16 copper? That's junk item value, but I can't sell them as junk. They're a waste of space now. And tier 19 of the 4 "glory" achievement has become a joke because of this.

The implementation of the siege weapons does not seem particularly effective beyond just breaching the door since you have to manually operate them. I've tried to manually operate one at any other time and I just get slaughtered by the enemies. Some automation would be lovely.

Ideally you have several commanders splitting the sections up between them - I believe that was the idea. But no one does it like that, because people want as much participation as possible in all on-going events in order to get the most loot out of the whole meta. For that reason, commanders port from event to event even before the previous one is finished, tag as many enemies as possible and let the randoms finish it while they hop on to the next, then port back later to loot the spawned chest etc.

It's a constant, hectic portfest, and often you arrive too late to tag the champion to whom the squad has ported, or you arrive the second the commander is done and ports to the next event. The tons of visual noise all those events produce only increases the feeling of severe stress and I often end up downright exhausted and with a headache after each meta cycle.

I feel the exact same way. The story is too short even with the open world bits padding it out. Which has been the direction since HoT, I feel. Too short and probably too focused on dialogue rather than on action. Although I don't mind that focus so much here as the map is so action packed.

It's good, it's a nice map with a fun meta, very glad to see ArenaNet giving a guaranteed way to get the new skins in game again, I love the legion backpacks and charr helms especially.

Not so sure about the tengu weapons, they don't fit the region, I thought the tengu might have for into the story somehow but instead it feels like you've given us their tier 3 racial weapons for no particular reason. I'm not complaining about the fact that there are two sets of weapons in an episode, just that the tengu weapons don't feel like they fit the episode.

I'm going to hold off making the Stormcaller weapons until I see what they can be upgraded to, I don't want them to take up space in my bags but if the tengu weapons and the Stormcaller weapons were account bound like the Boreal weapons then I'd probably have made them already.

The story is awful. Telling me what my character feels about a turn of events, such as destroying the R&D bunker, means less of a connection with my character for me in all content now. Preachy, amateurish, garbage.

The map is beautiful, and I love the increased potency of the mobs as groups.

After some extensive playtime on the map:

    Yes episode was short.

The participation system is flawed. It highly favors staying close to base and only run Supply Bulls. On regular events (defend, capture etc) I struggle to get to 100% participation before the meta begins (from start to finish) But... half hour running both bulls from base gave me 170%
    Ehhh what??!

Siege is clutter in my oppinion. The only usable is the flame ram to get doors down. The others are useless and not comparable with WvW.
Balista: utterly useless, set one up to get that sniper up high that kept hitting me... NO go... Balista should be able to kill those but runs into the same stupid rule that enemy will insta-heal back to 100 due to different elevations...
Seriously, take that rule out, or take the snipers out. I prefer the first because the sniper idea is cool. But allow us a PROPER counter.

Special missions, seriously 40 (!!) achievements that give ZERO points? WOW... Yeah they give commendations, but the list of achievements with all unlocked was just RIDICULOUSLY long. Overkill for sure. Scroll through to find that 1 achievement... can I get compensation of overly use of scroll wheel? hehehe

I hope that experiment goes into the bin for next episode, but considering I suspect an expansion of current map, I fear the worse.

The thing is, overal I love the map and the meta, and would love to see more of this, but please consider the above. Implementing siege is one thing, but make it at least usable?

    Anything positive?
Love the action. The map itself is great. Its also a good balance to not TOO challenging to find your way, or too simple to get bored quickly.
The meta is nice, and the variety of events (not simply kill this kill that) is also very welcome.

Very nice addition - especially the short story - well done. Definitely a replayable map unlike Bjora Marches
It's good to know what is going on around the map but do the announcements have to dominate the screen?
Speech bubbles - is there a way of turning these off? They always pop up at the most annoying moments.
Participation % needs a bit of work.
Special missions - nice idea but can we get a filter for achievements?
Siege weapons seem a bit redundant and you're very vulnerable whilst using them - just EMP the gate and everything inside
Essence - does anyone use these? Can we get an auto-loot with large radius or make them like the Necro's lifeforce?
Edit - Can you make the Dominion cache keeper icon larger and more distinctive?

Have liked the foes in the maps: They gather together they use emotes and some are even launching taunts or escorting supply caravans. But the story is meh. The commander is a war veteran, killed ton of innocent during the second half of personal story with bad choices. Killing several pact airships with hot, sacrificing troops against kralkatorrik.... and seeing 4 iron solders executed "shock" us? Who is that commander... Smodur is right, peoples are a resources used to create other resources like weapons and ammunition. Everything is permitted during total war. Would be another waste to kill Smodur, the only one with right mind in next episode. Flame imperator is also to me soft, Gaheron would be there....

  • Honestly, this is the most awful thing Anet has ever released. Some of us have paid very good money for this game, and we expect you to actually finish a product before you release it. If you can't do voice acting because of COVID, move your studio to a state that is more business friendly and make it happen. Then again, can't really expect you to release anything worthwhile, or even finished considering WvW hasn't been touched in eons. I'm just about over this game and everything about it. Releasing partially completed content is completely useless and you might as well just not release anything at that point.

    agreed.

It gives you 10% participation points increase for every finished event you participated/tagged regardless how long the event took and how much you "really" participated (as long as you participated above a minimum threshold). So if players want to max participation fast, they have to jump in the map from event to event and also jump back to the base to also tag the dolyak escort events. This does not feel like a good system. It rewards players that tag events and jump across the map but not players that stay on their side/lane and help their event/(story-telling)-chain to progress.

This also means, that for players, that come into a map that has already progressed further in the event chain, it will be very hard to reach the maximum participation bonus/loot before the last map-phase starts and the whole participation system gets deactivated.

The good thing is: With maxed out participation you get more/better chests, but it doesn't feel that much more. So it doesn't feel (at least for me) that I miss much, if I dont't have maxed participation.

There is one thing that keeps bugging me though...
The messages that appear in center screen, They are WAY too much in this map. It is borderline SPAMMING.

Sometimes I get like 20 within 5 minutes. The immersiveness is wasted that way. It is too much....
    So please... Stop spamming us.

Or at least give us an option to disable those annoying messages.

While I wrote this messages, standing at base camp in Drizzlewood, I got 17
    SEVENTEEN!!!!

I haven't visited the map since I finished with all its achievements, which has been over a week. I think that says a lot about how well I perceived the meta overall in hindsight. ;) I like the first third of it, but then it gets repetitive and boring and you just want to skip to looting the cache keeper chests.

    • The final fight with the tank, the porting and the chopper is so silly and annoying - it feels like the meta is being artifically dragged on.
    • The port and the lighthouse areas are ugly, therefore unenjoyable to visit and look at.
    • Many events occur repeatedly and feel recycled.

There is nothing fun about the meta other than its rewards. I prefer doing the HoT metas for loot instead, to be honest.

The worst part is that they overlap with NPC dialogue/interaction windows.

Hate this map. It is based like world versus world which I only did for the warclaw. Will give this episode a 3/10.

That was the point of the map

Maybe I missed something from the dialogue or forgotten a piece of info from the last episode, but why are we all the way across in Woodland Cascades for a civil war for the Charr? Seems a tad out of the way and increasingly further away from Jormag's last known position

we are trying to stop them from getting to jormag

Jormag was established to be right next to bitterfrost frontier as per season 3 dialogue. There has been no indication or reason it moved.

What sleep is here? What dreams there are in the unctuous coiling of the snakes mortal shuffling. weapon in my hand. My hand the arcing deathblow at the end of all things. The horror. The horror. I embrace it. . .

    Actually
    A. It was stated that it was believed Jormag was just beyond Bitterfrost, it was never confirmed that he was.
    B. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Darkrime_Delves_(story)

Rytlock Brimstone: Yeah. Cre's got some updates from the front lines.
Rytlock Brimstone: Bangar's forces have trekked pretty far north. He's almost made it to Jormag, and when that happens—well, no one knows.

According to Rytlock, in Visions of the Past, Bangar was going north to reach Jormag, and Bangar has been heading north since he arrived in Drizzlewood, putting Jormag in the northern Drizzlewood area.

I have to ad one tiny lil critisism to this story.
Without giving away but very last part: Why was the sound so obnoxiously loud? I mean...
OMG I had to rip off my headset to not go deaf, because I had not a second time to reach for the volume.

    Only one question:
    Why?

Have yo checked in Option>Sound (or is it called Audio)? There you can control effects sound and other settings which might need to be toned down a bit, if that is too much for you. (Same if you don't want to hear music playing in the background or need higher audio for dialogues).

All the wvw and EOTM commanders looking for a change need to try this chapter out.

Why should they try this map in particular? The siege weapons from WvW do not transform this PvE-map into some form of WvW. The map is still pure PvE.

The implementation of the siege weapons does not seem particularly effective beyond just breaching the door since you have to manually operate them. I've tried to manually operate one at any other time and I just get slaughtered by the enemies. Some automation would be lovely.

In WvW we have shields that we can put, maybe we need something of the same defensive siege weapon to protect more offensive weapon from getting attacked? There is also the issue with getting tagged by snipers. I have had 4 or more laser beams tagging me in air. Some balance need to be done so when there is less population it will not get overhead from how fast dead NPC can respawn.

In just a few seconds one have same enemy back from the dead and a group in coming. Not to forget that darn essence that one have to pick up while fighting. Very hard to see in green and blue tone. Red is more easy as long it is not flowers coloured red around too...

Why can't essence work more like something that at least is there until we leave or get picked up without having we have to unmounted on ground (can't just use a mount if one want to get buff and other features that are from picking essence up)?

Central Screen Announcement (CSA) is really annoying, especially when zerg leave map for a fresh new round and the rest have to deal with all Dominion taking back area of map. In Silverwastes there is a flow where things calm down, but here it seem to be a rush all the time.

I really dislike those mobs that can leach your HP AND knock you down. It is hard to use Stability to reduce this kind of CC when there is 6 NPC that have this ability and maybe more that are on its way during a fight. Condition I can deal with as there is skills, sigils and traits that reduce its impact, but leaching is not one of those thing. The only way is to kill them as fast as possible which is hard when one also have to avoid getting over run or CCed.

I use skills from United Legion Waystations to handle some of these mobs, but why do we have to invest in Mastery to actually get our own portable ULW instead of getting that first and then those special skills that we buy? They do also litter the environment the way they show up around fights from people that have access to portable ULW.
