New player that needs advice!

My friends and I started playing the game, we have the expansions and have lvl 80 characters but where do we start? So far we have started getting heroics points from Path Of Fire expansion. We have also started the story line. We feel like we have not progressed far, mainly because we don't know what gear to get. What gear should we get from where we are now which is the free lvl 80 gear, and cheap healing gear from trading post to meta end game gear. Since the materials will take a while to collect we figured we should get some gear along the way but don"t know what gear. Any suggestions? and anything else we need to be doing?

Well a good question is what class and what do you want to do with it?Since you said healing gear that could be elementalist, guardian, ranger, necromancer or engineer, hell even warrior got a support spec with warhorn all tho its not used much.

So you basically boosted you first character and have 0 connection to the game, the lore, the character, any skills or traits, etc.

Here is well meant advice:

• complete the first PoF story mission (which you probably already did since you are acquiring hero points in PoF) for the raptor
• if desired, complete the first HoT mission and unlock gliding
• start new characters from scratch and level to 80 normally (keep the boosted characters for future use)

You are not doing yourself any favors by using the level 80 boost on first characters when new to the game.

Do the story so you can get acclimated to your lvl 80 char. It will get harder as it goes, so you'll have to play better as it goes. The lvl 80 boost should start you with soldier gear, which increases your toughness, vitality, and power. So it'll be harder to kill you. Soldier gear IS good for beginners while you get used to how the game works. Later you can go for higher dps builds or healing builds, etc. Don't worry about the endgame just because you're level 80. Find a way you like to play, and make your char and build to match. Later you can use pre-made builds, but preferably only after you've figured out how to play the game. Basically, have fun! Play whatever until you feel seasoned enough to try fractals and raids and strikes. Also, you can go to pvp to experiment with builds.

I thumbsed up your post. But to be fair if he gets himself a raptor, he did do himself a favour using the boost. It's just he won't be doing himself a favour making his boosted character his first main.
