Figured this might be a fun topic, what kinds of things that would probably cost more development time and money than they're worth would you want in the game?
My personal thing is having a boat with a canon/some sort of long ranged attack and climbing walls/cliff faces (i know we have the springer and skyscale that already invalidates this, i did say it's unnecessary)
What would you add?
Whataboutism is disingenuous at best. If you join a debate and provide little to no proof when the other side provides lots of evidence, you can't then declare yourself the winner of that debate. I won't engage with bad faith arguments.

Having decorations for home instance like the ones for guilds
Siren E-Spec for Mesmer
Pet battles. Don't
Probably the ability to decorate home instances like we can with guild halls and/or new private instances we can buy or claim and then decorate. It would be easy to monetise but I'm still not sure it would be worth the time required and it wouldn't really add anything to the overall game. I'm not even sure if I want it because Elder Scrolls Online has that system and I still have mixed feelings about the amount of time (and gold) I've spent decorating my homes in that game.
Also the ability to name mounts like you can with ranger pets.

Decorating home instance and/or being able to move around where the home instance nodes are.
Can my kill proofs for raids just be bringing people to my home instance where I have a bunch of prisoners speared to the walls with a ton of junk stacked in the middle?
Oh, almost forgot, on the topic of home instance things I've also always wanted them to add some sort of library type thing somewhere, where you can store all those books you get from various places. I always feel bad deleting them but I also dont want them eating inventory space. Was thinking it could kinda function like how you can put the books back in the Astralarium in Istan.
A parkour activity with sprinting and climbing mechanics

Some of these would eat tons of resources, others would just be funny or completely useless:
More hairstyles.
Make the oakheart essence an unlimited special key skill so I can pretend I am spiderman.
Add a splatter animation if you hit a wall at high speed.
Rock paper scissors emote. The best minigame in gw1.

Why bother, just delete the official Forum.
Raid portal device
Costume raid boss selection panel like the gate in EotN
Couples dancing, eg vintage waltz or polka. Something that actually links two consenting characters together while whirling about. Bonus points if the dancers can hear appropriate music while dancing and if they can initiate special moves like a twirl out-and-in. (Side benefit: Would possibly use the same tech needed for passengers on mounts).
I think that matches the OP's parameters for suggestions
can we have custom mouse pointers?, 8 years and the developers don't realize how easy it is to lose your mouse pointer with the amount of effects the game has.

1)Remove the ''Collide with everything'' option for new accounts ....Show the fluency of the engine...
2)Offer them a portal between the starting area and the Silverwaste for 3 days , if they choose to use the Boost . (in order to avoid messages -''how to get out'')
3)Sent them an in game mail when they use the boost , where they can choose 3 portals : a) Play the era of harmony (Vanilia) , b) era of actions (PoF) , c) better avoid the era of Torture (HoT) .
4) Allow people to unlock the episodes of PoF for free (one every 4 days) , but they sign a contract , where get reduced (60%) gold/loot for 4 months (exept from Raids or any other event you want to funnel them , or in the HoT area) . Starting June-Semptember of 2021 .
If Steam get released on November , they will need 4-5 months to learn the ''ropes''and around that time they will try to maximize their gold
c) Create a sidequest , telling them : ''On the 6th day we will pay a visit in the PvP + WvWvW area , but if you wish we can do it in 24 hours!''

this got me thinking of another totally unnecessary thing: what about first person view arms/models? we have a first person mode, a fov slider, and action camera. now we just need to finish it off with first person arm+weapons models
The ability to dismount and fall in mid air without the use of bond of faith. Going further though, manually initiated idle animations added to our emotes as well as the removal of the mechanic that automatically puts your weapons away after a few seconds when you manually brandish them.
housing, 2-player emotes (hugging, pair dancing, etc) multi-player mounts.
Camera pose mode.
Enter a camera mode, allowing you to pose/do attack animations and pause the emote/attack animation.
Well, i have always been an advocate for: if the game is about fighting and killing, there should be copious amonts of blood and gore. Even something small like in an old game i played years ago called, Requiem: memento mori, i think it was called would be better than that the enemies simply keel over and vanish into a better place. Truly funny when you dismember an enemy, they fall and start twitching before they take their last breat. Hilarious!
Mechanical knowledge check before venturing outside central tyria. You don't get it play any content before you know how all of it works.
How to: CC, every single stat works, stat combos and what's best for your build, positioning for mob/boss mechanics, attack range, boon spread range, stacking cons and pros, blocking and evading, self-sustain, event scaling, LFG usage.
Really basic knowledge.

I'd like a good posing/screenshot system. Pose your character in certain ways and then get pictures. For extra fun and usability they could allow us to buy "scenes" of various places, with appropriate currency (not gems), so we can pose our characters in peace, without actually being in the place. Further options could be lights, post process effects and as a more "Extreme" idea, the ability to spawn actual mobs (including bosses) and pose them as well. The possibilities are endless and can be both monetized (sell some of the things for gems) AND provide extra replayability for content to get all the new things (if not using gem store)
New hairstyles, new faces, new character options (like horns for Charr), although I expect to have lots of new hair/faces, at least for humans, with the next expansion, but other races need some love too.
We have, it is called "Jumping Puzzle"
Praise Joko! And make necros great again!

Ambient mounts. Creatures that wander maps like the ambient creatures but you can jump on and ride around. Obviously they would not be as good as the regular mounts. Dolyaks come to mind thanks to another thread I just read but this could also be a way to get horses into the game.

first thing: definitely housing. in all the 5 years i played this game i never found out where my asura sleeps. the commander is homeless, let's face the truth.
an option that makes cats shut up.
ability to create a character without mastery access and achievements reset (= fresh start).
possibility to complete maps as pacifist (you can lvl up quite well and explore but those hero points won't unlock without fighting).

I would like Mini's to do something too, but I guess that would be a balancing nightmare. In Everquest they give small Buffs, that would be something. Maybe they could divide all the Mini's in like 15 groups, and then the mini's in the same group would all give the same Buff.
For instance all Feline mini's would give +30 power or something, Drakes and other riverdwellers would give +30 Healing. This way people would switch mini's according to the situation/class.
Then again, since the extra Buff would soon considered to be a "Must have that extra Power going", people would feel obliged to have a Feline Mini out, instead of their cute little panda. So never mind.
I mean, other MMO's would dare do such an evil thing, but not Anet, nope.
Sensory deprivation glasses/headgear that can be worn and blocks everyone else's effects (accept for the bosses) so we could actually see.

Thought of another one, but I'm unsure how many of these actually belong in the QOL request thread. Anyway, allow us to equip and use our gliders at ground level. What do I mean by this? Basically treat it as a movement animation pack similar to what Aion has. If I'm using the Forged Glider or Legion Jetpack for example, just let me use it to hover around at ground level. Even if it isn't faster than running it would look cool in my opinion. If someone wants to get around at ground level by pretending they're a Macy's parade float with the Infinirarium glider, let them do it. If some wants to drift around like a bad kite using the default glider, let them do it to.
Personally, I wouldn't want to see this. /shrug

That's okay, because if it dies we should be able to skin it. Maybe in competitive modes only.

I'd try to come up with more but I've to get to bed, work's going to be a kitten kitten up the kittening kitten kitten today.

another pointless idea (because we have waypoints and mounts): public transportation. classic mmorpg feels. i enjoyed boat rides in ff11 and the airship rides in ragnarok online.
we can have an underground subway in kaineng city if it's big enough in gw2's representation ( since kaineng is supposed to cover nearly 1/3 of cantha https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Cantha_unexplored_map.jpg ).
In game window to display the forums while we play 😬

Not necessarily a mechanic but more a UI feature I guess. Absolutely unnecessary and pie-in-the-sky, but I would LOVE if we could chose the order our characters appear on the character select screen, and increase how many are shown at a time. Include how it is now (by play order, a single row of 7 you can scroll through) as an option, but being able to see more than 7 characters at a time by having more rows would make me so happy. Also the ability to put them and "lock" them in a certain order; I would personally love to always have my main character first, then all my crafting toons always together, then WvW toons, etc. Instead of shuffling back and forth and back and forth between 40+ characters to find the one I want, I would know exactly the order they'd be in.
It's such a niche problem, and I've managed 5+ years without this and I'm sure I'll SOMEHOW continue to manage without it, but it would be handy. For me at least.
