Be dope if

  1. Tournament games are viewable in Hearts of the Mist (like a world cup, can see mutliple games going on)
  2. b. Tournament games can be spectated
  3. More things where people can spectate PvP games

Make the spectate work again. This is why I want hotjoins, you can spectate the games too.

This is what I am expecting in the new expansion PvP

Dont forget GvG and Alliance battles (Guilds can make alliances with one another outside of WvW) being added to heart of the mists so you can have your 20 v 20 or your 40 v 40 which then separates that from WvW so that they can have their own place to play where they wont be interrupted and can be rewarded properly.

I think the reason why they never did this and never will is because:

  1. Spectate in-game so easily would have made for less Twitch/Youtube views.
  2. Less Twitch/Youtube views = less content creators.
  3. Less content creators = less free commercialism to bring in new players.

Before the game was going into year 9, that stuff ^ was important for the growth of the game, and I'm sure it still is to a certain degree.

Oh and by the way, those functions you are asking for already exist, but they only allow arenanet partnered streamers to use them. How do you think they stream MATs and other such tournaments?

no it is simply because the game lags to shit when many people spectate. thats why they limited it, the game is not built for mass spectating.

It would be kilobytes per second of data to send to spectators, you'd need many hundreds of spectators to make an impact on a server infrastructure that is already designed to handle hundreds (thousands) of clients.

I can't understand your grammar, you are suggesting that spectators have a player model while spectating and that somehow impacts the server?

You do realize 100% of all video data (character models, textures, world environments, spell effects, animations) happens only on the client right? That data does not need to be transferred, so whether the game is as good or badly programmed as you say, that isnt going to impact lag (latency of actions)

What data do you think is being transferred from spectators to other spectators (or players)?

If we pull some numbers out of our butt, let's say a high number like 2Mbps (a rate this high probably only happens in WvW but hey) is being generated by a busy 5v5 match. Then let's say 1000 spectators (not gonna happen but hey) would be a strain of 2000Mbps (2Gbps) needing to be sent to the spectators. Nothing from a spectator needs to be sent to anyone, except perhaps a ping once or twice a minute from the server to the spectator to determine if they're even still connected. So anyway 2000Mbps seems like a big numbeer, but if you think about how fast you can grab a file from the servers on patch day (let's say 30Mbps, which would be a bad speed, say a low-tier broadband on a poorly transmitted wi-fi node) then that equates to the amount of load represented by 67 people downloading a patch. The real world numbers are probably way more favorable, I'm using nightmare scenario numbers - yet still, this amount of data you think would be crushing ANet's capacity?

2Gbps for a server is a TON of data for most servers to xfer over the web at least singular servers....

My guess is also that the "Servers" that the pvp lobbies sit on are not scalable large "Server farms" and probably some stand alone box in a data center or a single VM in some cloud provider. For which is you ramp up 2Gbps over the net with 1000 connections is going to cause some bottlenecks on the server. This isn't going to change anytime soon because the cost upgrade these server's is not worth it for them. So here we are.... lol

2Gbps isn't an extreme number at the enterprise tier of things, on patch days that number is probably an order of magnitude (or two) higher, and I've never seen an impact on latency. Yes you're correct that patch server is almost certainly a different service than world server, but my point is that this heavy load isn't a problem for ANet (or their provider). As much as I've railed at the devs for balance issues, the network folks they have seem to be among the best in the business (I have only one memory of a server-down situation in all of GW2's history). Anyway a real world "high profile" match I would be surprised to see more than 200 spectators (more ppl will probably just find a stream rather than boot up the game and spectate), so we're really talkin 100Mbps or less.

SO many excuses here."Will cause lag, etc"You realize they dumbed it down from 8v8to 5v5?You realize older games have spectators, it doesn't cause any extra lag to client nor server.

Thing I hate about this community here at GW2.New feature very niceCommunity members"too much time for devs""too much server resources""excuses"

You aint the devops team, you dont know squat. If anybody should be making excuses it should be an anet person coming to this forum"yeah very nice, but uses too much resources"

Quit making excuses for this game, you don't know how it runs, you don't have the code.

..I have news for some of yall, spectate is already a done deal. Its just a matter of they going to give it to us finally or what?Whats point of making something years back and NEVER using it?
