Are we gonna talk about this... New Weapons!!

Recommended Posts

Pretty sure they misspoke...new weapons meaning skins. Balancing of 30 skills per class is not something they drop in a smaller patch. Expansion 3...maybe. Why would they lose the monetary gain of selling point for the expansion. Adding nunchucks to the game is a pretty good bullet point for an expansion sales pitch.

In the trailer it says "Weapons & Skins" which most likely means weapon skins and other skins (backpacks, mounts, armor, etc.) The proceeded to show the very skins they are talking about in the next few seconds...none of which were on a new weapon.

So you think they would misquote after showing someone threw a spear? Okay...

They've used "new weapons" in releases before - wherever the weapons are weapons with stats and not skins. I'd be surprised to see an actual new weapon and for them not to mention it specifically. That would be some serious hype for a lot of people.

The thrown spear is interesting mind you, but it could be a mastery or an action skill - like the dragonblood spear

In the highly unlikely event it is actual new weapon types, that would exciting news/

Yep, these are new weapons, not new weapon types. That's an important distinction.

As for the character with the spear it was a Sunspear/Crystal Bloom Paragon NPC. I believe they've been there since PoF.

Yes, I do. I also think the fan base will continually be mistaken about things they think they see.

The Battle Axe you think you saw might just be a new Hammer skin.Or do you mean the Crystal Bloom Axe, which still is a one-hander (despite it's needlessly long handle)?

The spear throw is a Crystal Bloom Paragon. It even says "Join with Allied Factions Crystal Bloom and Ebon Vanguard" during that scene.

Technically, there is always the chance that something unexpected happens.

Realistically speaking though, no. Those are weapon skins.

  • First off, as mentioned by others, adding even 1 new weapons would be a huge undertaking and most certainly would not be dropped with a minor release.
  • Second, unless they decide that suddenly 1 weapon type would be added across all classes, this would require multiple new weapons, which is even more unlikely for a minor release.
  • Third, if we assume new elite specializations for EoD, then that means tons of new skill development aimed at the expansions. It is highly doubtful that there is enough spare ideas and resources to go around for new weapon types before hand.
  • Finally, even should there ever be new weapon types added, and that is still a HUGE "if", this would be a far better expansion reveal and feature encouraging the sale of an expansion than just handing something like this out for "free".

I doubt any one is really expecting a new weapon type from a living world release (and I personally doubt we will see new weapon types at all. The elite system with cycling weapons to classes works well enough and creates a lot of workload already).

@Strider Pj.2193 said:So, while there is some.... encouragement with that, it would bring up a whole host of balancing issues with possibly 25-30 new skills...

And we know how great the balance is now so.....

a set of elite specs is 1 new weapon per class, which is 2-5 new guaranteed skills per class. that can be anything between 18 and 45. for HoT we even had a whole new class as the rev too. and the rev later got an additional underwater weapon as well as he had 2 slots for 1 weapon.

HoT offered in total 34 new weapon skills from elites alone and 20 new weapon skills from core rev.PoF offered in total 32 new weapon skills from elites alone.

then there are also elite utilities which should be at least 5 per class, making a total of 45.

now cantha is a new expansion and will offer another ~30 new weapon skills from elites. it isn't that impossible that some of these get a new asian weapon type as their new weapon.no expansion has added a mace, pistol, scepter or focus to any class so far.longbows are used by 2 core classes and 1 e-spec.rifles are used by 2 core classes and 1 e-spec.shortbows are used by 2 core classes and 1 e-spec.maces are used by 3 core classes and no e-specs.pistols are used by 3 core classes and no e-specs.warhorns are used by 3 core classes and 1 e-spec.hammers are used by 3 core classes and 1 e-spec.scepters are used by 4 core classes and no e-specs.focuses are used by 4 core classes and no e-specs.

all these weapons have less than 5 classes using them, so even if only half of the new e-specs gets that new weapon its usage won't be behind by any means. on the other hand these low usage weapons mean there are lots and lots of free spots to fill with existing weapons.

I assumed they meant new weapons as in the items drop fully functional, with stats (or with selectable stats) rather than being skins which you have to apply to a matching weapon to use.

I think if they were actually introducing new weapon skills, and especially if it was new types of weapons not currently in the game, they would make far, far more of a fuss about it. That would be the topic of an announcement on it's own, with follow-up articles or interviews with developers to explain how they're going to work, how they'll be acquired etc. not a single line mentioned in passing while focusing on the storyline.

but if they announce a new weapon now with two years to go they will be measured by that. there's quite the possibility that the new weapon then doesn't make it into the expansion for whatever reason and then? disaster.

Discussed so many times ... not a chance. It would be SO restrictive on Anet to develop this and questionable how much value it would have to players. The value in a new weapon has nothing to do with what kind of weapon it is; it's the skills players value. In principle, I wouldn't even use it because of the significant lack of skins available for a completely new weapon.

There also are the Paragon NPCs throughout Season 4, as well as the Dragon Hunter's active F1.

Laugh in elementalist it's go from 8 to 20 new skills (withouts speaking about 4 more from special like tempest overcharge or weaver skill fusions)For the topic; they cleary said new weapons, not new weapons type.

Some of the possible weapon changes/elite specs for End of Dragons can be as follows if Developers feel any of these are suitable:

  • The Ranger should get a Rifle spec. It will be a power DPS spec which should be viable for Open World, WvW, and possibly Fractals if not Raids as such
  • The Warrior getting Dual wielding spec for Greatswords (a GS each hand!) for a Power DPS and/or Sword Off-hand spec suited for Raids, Fractals, and PvP
  • The Necro getting Sword/Sword Condi spec for all game modes. It is a must kinda
  • The Revenant getting Greatsword based tank spec for Raids, Fractals, and Dungeons
  • The Thief getting a permanent stealth mode Longbow based Condi spec, suitable for Open World, PvP and WvW
  • The Engineer getting a Warhorn-Shield based Heal spec suitable for Raids, Fractals, and PvP
  • The Ele getting a Weaponless spell-based Power DPS spec, suitable for Open World,
  • The Mesmer getting a GreatAxe based power DPS spec suitable for all game modes
  • The Guardians getting a dual Chain wielding a weapon (like Demios) DPS spec suitable for Open World, Raids, and FractalsHopefully, a new class of a Monk that can be a Staff based DPS or Heal spec suitable for Raids and FractalsBesides the above, it is much speculative that the Tengu is going to be the next new spec. Several players are excited about it, but it will be nice that instead of giving a Parrot shaped spec, the Devs can think of some more diverse specs especially Ogre/Troll/Jotun and especially the Kodan, the Krait, and Largos.Last but not the least, please bring some decent facial hair options for all specs, particularly Norns if possible.

Sincere RegardsSunny/Eagleseye
