I give up...

After two weeks of trying to do the elder djinn event in domain of vabbi i finally give up.
Not worth my time anylonger.
That map has to be the most dead map , and if a player does finally show up it's a core ranger and his loyal pet that gets one shot never to be seen again

It's the only event i need to continue the "glorify the golden heart" achievement so i can finnish everything in one go inside the lair of Zommoros
OH WAIT!!!
Another event unable to do, because you can't even start the event if there are not 3 players present in the npc radius lol

Did you call out for help on a more crowded map? There may be helpful players around you know?

So you tell me that without either of those two, events can not be completed because the population of the map is near not existent?

I do, see above. if people do gather it's for legendary bounties that hop from map to map. Doesn't really help me

Before the change people had to come to vabbi to grind the heart events, now you can just do dragon stand meta a couple of times and you're done

Certain maps often barely have players in them but I have NEVER not been able to do certain group content in the end, if not right away. Just keep asking in Map, maybe even in a more crowded (adjacent) map. Is the Elder Djinn event not soloable anyway? Might be wrong. The Lair of zomorros also is never a problem, just keep asking in Map.

And as many said, Guilds are your friend, but I am not in a Guild and have never had problems finding help in the end. Players in GW2 usually love to help out is my experience.

The elder djinn events can be started solo (kill the veteran djinns to light all 8 torches for the 4 champion djinns to show up)
but the champions djinns all start together, and with a time limit same as bounty. if it was not for the time i could cheese it with trailblazer mirage or something but that is not an option.

The lair of zommorow can not be started solo

yes, and not one guarantee that yoy will get success per first or second try. Mastery of communicate in mmo game not for all.

Domain of vabbi is a dead map every since the change to funerary incense ages ago.

it was dead after 4-8 week after relize if looks critically. And this is common thing as on most maps. Only lfg or some inner event, it comes one per week, when some guild aslo want attract ppl, so look inside pve giulds inside runs plans in discord boards.

Have you tried asking your WvW guild to help, explaining that you need it for the achievement? It seems strange to me that you could be dedicated enough to join not just the main guild but a specialised sub-guild as well, but they won't help you out with 1 event just because it's not in their prefered game mode. That seems like a pretty one-sided relationship to me.

You should leave inactive guilds. Ever followed the World boss event timer? Some guilds organize dailies/weeklys. Best time is before and after reset where there is crowd. Just join the tags or you can party people up and try to advertise your group on LFG. Hope these helps..

You can join the said squads and ask them if they can help you with that event, which will probably take them couple minutes. I used to do this, and most commanders/squad members were nice enough to take a detour and help me out. You can also ask for help in the major cities or farm maps, there are always people willing to lend a hand. It's an mmorpg, not a single-player game, you're supposed to communicate with other players in order to overcome certain obstacles. Like there is no thing in this game that cannot be resolved by means of simple communication.

Did you list a group in lfg or did you just look in lfg looking for some rare chance it would be there. The easiest is when bounty daily on that map even tho it's not a bounty theres just a lot of players on the map and many may need those rare things for that achieve. The lair of Zommoros I would just keep checking and sometimes it would be open or 2 there to help to open.

WvW band wagoners ruin the game mode just like Karen's ruin these forums.

Your WvW guild mates should be able to help as well. Who knows, maybe they're in a PVE oriented guild and can get you hooked up with some help.

Maybe get your WvW guild to do a once a month PvE goals day to help members with their goals that require groups in PvE. And maybe you could offer to run or organize it. When your out doing it, pop a commander tag and people are likely to come running because PvE players are conditioned to follow the tag.

I'm not sure where there is some assumption in this thread that a WvW guild should help out with Vabbi (PvE). There is a reason that guilds advertise their activity areas. You even state that that these people are avoiding PvE. It seems unrealistic for them to help in PvE.

I'm not sure how what the root of the problem is, if joining a large PvE guild won't help. Anet can't fix empty maps, only players can fix empty maps.

  • Instead of asking for help, what I do is to announce that I'm starting an event, and what it's for. I set a time and most reminders in /map, as well as starting a squad in /LFG. This has worked for any of the small events that I (or at least my character) couldn't solo, as well as bigger events.

I find that I get a lot of first-timers, who didn't realize that they, too, had a reason to participate in the event. And I get veterans, who like that they can finish off what they are doing first, without rushing to an event that they have done already. The vast majority of time, more than enough people joined to make it work.

Another tip is to make the first announcement while people are on the map already for some other event or meta. Most people will leave at the end of that task, which is fine: we don't need "most;" only enough.

In short, try to make it easy for people to notice & join.

Hype is the path to the dark side. Hype leads to unfulfilled expectations. Disappointment leads to anger. Anger leads to disgust. Disgust leads to "oh, new shinies! I'm back!"

    thanks for the many replies

one of the main issues i notice with asking existing squads to help is a very simple one.
they are organized runs, meta farm trains.
when a meta is over you leave the map asap to join the taxi to the next meta, and be in the correct map. no one is gonna help a random ddue (me in this case) and risk to fall out of the boat (meta farm train)

daily domain of vabbi event completer has also not be a success, since people just run some easy bounties and want to be done as fast as possible.
and in all honnesty i can not blame them.
anyway i have said my rant, and i'm done with it. no more frustartions, just a player going forward. not worth the time

i thank you all for the tipsn some were useful..others less so (like no way can i cough up 300 gold for a tag so that i'm able to form a squad)
wvw does not make money, it costs money.

unlike pvp where they literally throw the gold at you

That's only for certain groups, ones specifically marked as trains. A lot of groups form just for one meta, or even one single event and when it's finished the group will disband. Tonight for example I did 1 bounty in Vabbi with a group, which then disbanded because the leader only wanted to do that one bounty. By the time I'd sorted out my bags a bit Forged with Fire was starting, so I did that with another group and as soon as that one ended I put a group together to do Serpent's Ire. When that finished someone in the squad asked if anyone would help with a bounty in Jahai, so I did that next. Each squad formed only for the one event and after each one I just stayed on the map because I hadn't decided what to do next, then joined in when something came up. In my experience a lot of people will play like that, maybe not for as long but they'll join in with things which start up after one event ends, just because they don't have any immediate plans.

You don't need a commander tag to form a squad, only to have the marker over your head. Anyone can form a squad and advertise it in LFG and most events don't need a commander tag, it's effectively just a portable map marker which shows people where to go, but for something like the elder djinn event where there's not a lot of moving around involved it's not necessary.

I have helped a few times when there was a bounty event in Vabbi. Others helped too, just need a bit of luck and bored people on the map. And some persistence because it will require people to stop what they are doing and travel all the way to the part of the map where there is not a lot to do. So some patience is involved.

Might be dead maps but here are two suggestions, either of those works, but you get the best results when you can do both.

1.- Wait for the map to have a daily vabbian bounty hunter, there are plenty of people visiting the map for that daily, and chances are you're gonna get help if asked for.
2.- Put on your mentor tag and write in map chat you need help with that event, make sure to link the Point of Interest as well.

Turst me, this game has a lot of people willing to help even though the event is not of their interest, that's what makes this community so wonderful.

There is a solution to a dead map, and that is to rework the event. Even if OP is able to finish the event through whatever means, that does not solve the issue for the other players. Of course there are solutions like asking map or guild for help.

The best solution tho is for Anet to rework the event, since that is the only way to fix the dead map issue for existing and future players.

  • Hesione.9412Hesione.9412 Member ✭✭✭✭

In my small sample size, the reason people have given me for not doing Serpent's Ire is that the reward-to-time ratio is too small. Basically you do a relatively long event, and the rewards you get for doing it are underwhelming. It's also punishing for a low number of players because of the time limit to find the zealots. As a comparison, you can do Forged with Fire with two people (I've done this by accident - a mentor called out and I was the only one that came, although some other people turned up while we were doing phase 75% to 50% on the warhounds, and it did get easier).

Given that maps like DWC throw loot/income at you, I can't see why some of the other maps have the same low reward system. Istan was popular until the loots were nerfed (was it the multi-map being removed? I can't remember). Dragonfall and Silverwastes remain popular due to their reward/income system - and have the same mechanic towards ending the meta (build up points to a particular level, do some other prep that requires multiple players, then the final part of the meta starts, followed by a chest train).

So, a major factor for some maps being played is the rewards. Which suggests that increasing the rewards for successful completion of meta events on lower-population maps would be worth a try. The loot for Serpent's Ire has never been good. Once people got the item they needed, they stopped doing the meta.

By the way, this event is also required for https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Skyscale_of_Water
Might want to get both done at once if you still need it.

Well it depends ... but 4 champions who make liberal use of CCs at the same time with a 10 minute time limit isn't particularly solo friendly.

You can theoretically pull them one at a time but having random people show up tends to just aggro everything due to indiscriminate targeting.
