Barrier and Healing benefits.

Recommended Posts

We all know that Barriers scale with Healing Power, like all other Healing skills. But instead of staying until soaking the damage, they have limited time before fading. And that is cool, its a drawback compared to Healing defining it as a Situational damage mitigation, rather than something you stack up before every fight. Barriers give you a shield for few seconds before fading, also they are caped at 50% your health. Heals heal you forever, you don't loose the amount restored and there are a lot more effects of healing available than Barier spells. Which is why Barriers are not affected by Poisons Healing-Reduction for example.

So why don't they benefit from effects that "Increase Healing done/effectiveness" , I don't think it was intended for them to NOT benefit but rather it was overlooked as there aren't many such effects, and it had to be changed on those effects "Increases Healing/shielding effectiveness" . For those players who prefer to use a supportive build for their allies, like Warriors, Scourges and some others, this would feel natural. If you are already investing into one of your mechanics, it should be beneficial to venture into such build all the way not just half the way for half the spells, increasing only your heals towards allies, rather than barriers as well. More so because Barriers fade after few seconds, and that they are Caped at 50% hp which ensures their usage cannot be higher than they are now.Effects that should also affect Barriers you provide to allies:Superior Sigil of TransferenceSuperior Sigil of BenevolenceSuperior Rune of the MonkBountiful Maintenance Oil

If your barriers are just disappearing then you are applying the barriers when you shouldn't be. If you are actually applying it at the right time it would be doing it job of mitigating damage. It is the same thing as using heals while you are at full health. Both are wasted if you use them at the wrong time. That is the same with everything else. Block at the wrong time and you wastes you blocks. Dodge at the wrong time and you waste your energy. Attack at the wrong time and you trash your DPS.

Sand flare isn’t a 100% selfish heal skill though; it grants that barrier to 4 other allies and on top that, converts a boon on up to 5 nearby enemies. Similarly, the heal on fb’s mantra of solace...

Having barrier be affected by healing bonus would be nice, but it would likely chain code it to be affected by poison, agony and other heal-related debuffs. Current numbers would have to be altered or even nerfed to compensate. At that point, what would be so special about barrier when it could just be straight up healing instead?
