What would bring more players regularly to DRMs?

On a Saturday afternoon just a few weeks after DRM launch, and almost noone is grouping for the new content. Reward-to-play incentives are surely putting people off. Too much hassle for too little benefit. Four changes could I think immediately be made to incentivise people to play DRMs more:

  • Significantly increase the droprate for the Volcanic Stormcaller weapons. Nobody I've run DRMs with has ever received one, reflected in the 300-400g TP price - valuing this collection (complete with Mastery point) at an insane 4,800-6,000 gold. So please double, or even triple, the present pitiful drop rate.
  • Change the Prismatium Crystals home node drop to 3 a day like every other node, not the present 2.
  • Having Prismatium Crystals account bound is probably fine - but forcing players into a glacier-slow daily grind is not. Each of the 16 Dragon Slayer weapons takes 30 crystals. That's 480 crystals in total needed for the collection. Just relying on the daily node (if you can afford the 50g upfront) would take eight months of grind. Even adding the (capped) crystals from daily DRM runs will still take you more than 30 days of tedious grind. Again, consider boosting the DRM drop rate - or give an extra bonus for running three a day (whether regular or CM)
  • Allow craftable Prismatium Ingots to be sold on the TP. Players should be abler to grind for profit, if they choose.

What else would incentivise you to run more DRMs?

A token system like the runic armor where you can buy acc bound volcanic weapons. Or more rewards or remove the 5 min time suck at the beginning. Or kick/replace afk's in public. I do the daily just for the 2 chests from the daily/kill 25 mobs just to be able to save those to unlock next masteries faster so I can play less drm's in the future

They're quite tedious on multiple repeats, a lot of standing around waiting for dialogue you've heard over and over again puts a lot of people off as does the waiting around for the actual mission part to start.

I think most people agree that these missions are a decent idea but they're poorly implemented as repeatable content..
Imagine if you couldn't skip cut scenes in dungeons for example.. would be the same problem.

Even if droprate of volcanic stormcaller would be affordable and a good step, wouldn't care because of that heavy smoke particles hiding the weapons themselves? There is no point. If so, just make smoke-made weapons...

The time-reward ratio is bad, for the same time you can earn way more in fractals. Dunno who balance content rewards but it is a real mess right now, for the same time you aren't rewarded the same way.

I know that DRM wouldn't be that repetive if more differents paths followed by npcs. Like 3 instead of one, one chosen randomly when starting.

Can't really speak about prismacites, since I don t like the dragon slayers weapons.

Would like more unique rewards, now it's ebon vanguards, and they sell the same skins you can buy for karma in ebonhawke.... cheap.

Also, there should be more morale boost tiers if you go beyond objectives. And even, they should be instead, called reward boost. The more you work during the mission and faster you do it, the more you earn. Last boss can easily only have half of its health.

Not enough events. Really, if it was properly done, it would allow 10 players in them, 5 doing the hunt for the greater destroyer, 5 continuing defending the frontline against waves of elites rank foes using if they want environmental weapons.

Like today cashwe character name from NA hides. We do the whole thing w 4 so you know 1s hiding. We all linger at the end nothing. The rest leave I run off one way come right back and here he comes to loot the chest. Like he hid and waited till when he thought everyone left. Fix that garbage anet. No contribute no loot simple. I block lable report but of course hes right back in another drm.

  • Better reward
Pre-event which finishes right after the goal is complited
No NPC escort or Glenna escort type or just silent NPCs
Not only junk in the final chest
Not the home-instance type, when if it started, no one can join, and if the owner left, everyone got kicked out.
Have I already mentioned better reward?..

    What people hate :

    • Arbitrary wait times
    • Poor rewards

    What DRM offers :

    • Arbitrary wait times
    • Poor rewards

    Solution :
Make DRM dynamic and always occurring, and make rewards better.
They could make Awakened Invasions fun, but they make DRM so boring.
No one wants to start every DRM rescuing civilians, building defenses etc. etc.

Have DRM instances open with ever occurring waves each with a boss.
If map population falls to low for more than 10 minutes, the map will close and move people to another instance.
Each enemy yu aided in killing awards participation, which ramps up to 400%, and each wave end will give rewards based on yur participation %

If I play a stupid build, I deserve to die.
If I beat people on a stupid build, I deserve to get away with it.

I'm glad they fixed the LFG issue with squads but them not telling us they fixed it in the patch notes is really all you need to know about how focused they are on it. DRMs are giving me side-project realness. We need more drops and more loot. Cut out the wait time when we finish the 3 beginning goals. People would be ALL over them if the enemies weren't models from the past 7 years; new destroyer skins (even minor changes) and they would at least have the illusion of something new.

Honestly, for being marketed as being repeatable content, They lack in basic replayability.
The Positives are they aren't difficult and groups don't have to worry about classes or skills really and can just join randomly, This is good if you want solo/casual players to repeat these instances. But then you have almost every other aspect of them taking away from that.

The whole instance is just a copy paste of the Story instance, they don't feel like they stand alone as their own things, I think removing some of the Dialog once you complete the story chapter could help here.
The Bosses are unengaging, They need to Give the Bosses unique mechanics. The Harpy's fire tornados are a good start but even than It still needs more.
Starting Events should Auto complete once all tasks are done, if you want replayability having minutes of downtime before the actual event even starts is counterproductive.
And Most importantly, They need Better Rewards for the time you spend, Right now they take quite some time and have barely any value for the time you spend.

Basically if you want something to be replayed by a majority of players you have to make it easily accessible, profitable and fun to revisit, DRMs are accessible but fail at being fun or rewarding.

More rewards honestly (weekly Amalgamated Draconic Lodestone or something akin to that for CMs) and a simple cut to the chase once it's 5 people in the instance and all the pre-mission objectives are completed.

Maybe a high tyrian defense seal count for Volcanic Stormcaller weaponboxes at the vendor (or a recipe requiring all Dragon Slayer weapons unlocked), they are too rare right now if a mastery point is going to be linked to the collection.

you can give the best rewards in the world, if you have to kill mobs and bosses over and over again without any mechanics or difficulty
it will remain boring and impossible without falling asleep.
Drizzlewood Coast has exactly the same probleme.

the major problem of the drm it is indeed the stupid mobs without interest and the boss sponge which does absolutely nothing.
Content is interesting when it allows you to think a little bit and pushes you to improve yourself. it's content that forces you to focus without spamming 1 like a robot.

Basically the complete opposite of these new missions
it was never the rewards that made a content really fun...

Making the next ones actually fun to play could be one way to increase participation.

Giving them better loot would be another thing that could cause more player participation.
I definitely would play the one daily DRM, if it contained a chance to get invisible shoe boxes.

  • Of course more reward is the answer I mean clearing 3x CM for daily (any DRM) is taking about similar time to clearing t4 Fractal + recs, but fractal rewards more.

  • Honestly even with good rewards DRM is just boring, i repeat every raid every week (sometime multiple time), do CM + T4 every day.

But even with this mentality i can't stand to do DRM anymore even if i did each 2-3 time i think, it's just so boring and long i can't stand doing them.

I have absolutely no interest in DRMs tbh.. They are just so boring with waaaay too much unskippable kitten. I don't want more boring PvE content, give us some new competitive content.. Give us an additional "Eternal Battlegrounds" WvW map or maybe even rework Stronghold to not be a complete clownfiesta if you can't afford designing something new or a full team queue next to solo/duo Q.. Make 2v2/3v3 a permanent ranked mode or whatever.. Just pleeeease no more unnecessary PvE kitten.

Well they are just not interesting to play for me, not sure why exactly. I don't enjoy doing them. The dialogue is tedious to listen to, the environments don't look that interesting. Make them funny. Make them have more exciting action or non-battle mechanics. Make them look awesome. Anything.

And for being kinda boring and basic, the bar for most of the LFG groups is ridiculous (am on EU). No, I will not bring a META build or any kill proof to join a DRM thank you.

  • Removing public instance would force people to group up. It would also stop people from going afk until final boss due to the inability to skip and the lack of rewards for completing the DRM fast.

Press [special action key] for razorblade free candy!!

  • I have no even the slightest interest to craft these Dragon Slayer weapons so I'm not so obsessed in grinding these mats daily.
...how to make me want to craft them? Make them stat-selectable.
I mean seriously, given the price each would cost (3 amalgs, 30 ectos, hundreds of ingots), they should be stat-selectable.

You're right, not for everyone. OP wants to bring more people into DRM, can't speak for the others but to make me want to grind it, make the unique reward worthy of my time.
I often adjust my build and I love to discover some new(weird) combination of stat/rune/sigil, I'd really appreciate some easier access to stat-selectable gears. Of course I'm crafting some legendaries but not so fast, especially the armors. A full set would take a really, REALLY long time.
Also, don't forget the ingots. 3 amalgs costs like 2.4G, 30 ectos is like 6G, 300 assorted metal ingots is 11G. That's about bloody 20G each. I can't imagine throwing so much money into some weapons that have fixed, generally not so useful stat only to instant-salvage them later. Maybe you're rich idkadc but, not everyone.

They took three dull, overly long, escort/defence mini meta events, stuck them in instances and gave no good reason to ever want to replay them. The vendor has nothing worth buying after the first few runs, just some crafting materials. I did the missions enough to get all the achievements and a couple of times more and never saw one of the reskinned Stormcaller weapons, so rerunning the instances to get those seems highly impractical and they're just another, third version of the weapons, not even unique.

If they had dropped all ten in one patch it might be something, a bit more variety at least, but instead they're going to drip feed the remaining 7 missions over the next 5-6 months. The actual awards probably won't come until the last chapter of this dull episode so I won't be repeating them beyond the bare minimum required to get the achievements until then. I'm doing that now because I'm sure very few people will be running them in the future apart from when we have to redo them for the legendary trinket. If the legendary trinket for the season hasn't been cut, that is.

What could they do to make me want to play them more regularly? Respect my time for a start. This is the same ArenaNet who put the bloated, over long and unrewarding Drakkar fight into the game, so that's unlikely but twenty minutes or so for the awful rewards you get is a colossal waste of time. They need to improve the instances to make them more fun and snappier. They're unlikely to though, the remaining DRMs are probably already finished and ready to be pushed out in a trickle of updates and the chances of ArenaNet pulling people from the expansion is very low.

If this low effort update is indicative of the quality of that expansion then I'm seriously concerned about it.

Personally, adding skins that interest me, e.g. wolf shaman set, new armor skins.

Their instanced nature, when i vastly prefer content with massive amounts of players (the first M ;) ), their lacking rewards as well as not being fun to me prevent it from being content I want to repeat. So the only way to lure me into them would be skins I want.

You have a heart of gold. Don't let them take it from you.

I more or less support all of these suggestions. While I don't know if the Dragon Slayer weapons and Volcanic weapons are basically intended to be THE long-term goal for Champions going forward (that is, there are actually no more weapon sets coming in subsequent chapters, and these two sets are basically intended for players to slowly acquire over the next 5-6 months), I think the speed of acquisition could be looked at and improved. Assuming you're just doing 3 DRMs a day, it would take you 5 days of farming to acquire 1 weapon. It's fair enough if you were just after one particular skin, but I think there should be other avenues for players to acquire Prismaticite if they wish. Perhaps the Ingots could be made tradable, as you suggested. If nothing else, it would at least give some inherent value to Prismaticite for a player who might otherwise be completely uninterested in the Dragon Slayer weapons, and for whom the Prismaticite is a literally worthless currency just piling up in his bank.

This actually ties in to a bigger gripe I have with the Icebrood Saga currencies; all of them generally have no resale value whatsoever and once you've acquired whatever skins/recipes/collections you want, Hatched Chilis, Eternal Ice etc. are completely worthless. Yet you get so MUCH of it. As a player, I totally despite getting loot that I basically have little choice but to just trash because the effort or return to turn them into something valuable is just not worth the hassle. This was an issue with the LS4 currencies too, but at least those could be consumed for Volatile Magic. I would really, REALLY like for the LS4 and IBS currencies to be given some kind of merchant value so we can just sell them to vendors. Naturally, stuff like Hatched Chilis or Eternal Ice would not be worth much because the supply for them is crazy, but they should still be worth SOMETHING.

Finally, I agree that Volcanic weapons in particular need to be looked at. I'm not sure what the drop rate for them is now, but I feel that they should be buffed to the same as what the SAB blue weapons are (which is a 1 in 50 chance from a Normal mode end zone chest.) Secondly, there should be other ways to acquire the Volcanic weapons. I propose the following system:

    1. There is a 1 in 50 chance for a random Volcanic weapon to drop from the Event Completion bouncy chest when you complete a DRM. These weapons can be sold on the TP.
    2. There is a 1 in 20 (open to debate, but it should be roughly about the same chance to get, say, the Otter chests from the Tribunes in Drizzlewood Coast) chance for a Volcanic weapon box to drop from the large ground chest. The weapon box lets you pick a Volcanic weapon of your choice, but the choice is account bound on acquire. (If you already have all the skins, the Volcanic weapons can be sold, salvaged or Forged, as you please.)
    3. Players can also purchase a Volcanic weapon box from the Tyrian Seals trader in Eye of the North. I'm unsure what the cost should be, but I'm guessing it would require a bunch of Tyrian Seals (50?) plus gold plus maaaaaybe something else like a Destroyer Lodestone or 2 Prismaticite Crystals.

Between the 3 methods above, it will give more incentive for players to do the DRM missions (either for direct loot to sell, or to farm Tyrian Seals to acquire boxes for your collection.)

  • What would bring me to play them:

    • Correct scaling. More enemies rather than a normal NPC feeling like a champion in a 5 group (I currently only play solo)
    • Actual XP earning again: I am on max Masteries and since Anet locked the rest, I earn ZERO xp doing them. (or any other Icebrood related content for that matter)
    • Less copy/paste. the 3 missions are too similar to me.

Those are my 3 main points to not do any DRMs

People not reading chat, not following target calls, standing in AoE etc.

    What's going on? ;)

  • DRM horrible as daily tasks because it insane waste of time. Long mission beginning, blablabla after timer, super slow ecsort with useless 1shot dolls.

What's going on is the Ebon Vanguard marks aren't awarded after 3 response missions anymore. There's no incentive beyond the daily DRM. The second DRM you do will still take as much time and you only receive 2 Prismaticite crystals extra. The 3rd DRM you do each day is even more worthless now, you get a total of one extra Prismaticite crystal.

As I posted above a few days ago, the best way to "fix" the DRMs is:

    • once the instance completes the pre-events and has 5 people lock the mission immediately and start the rest of it
    • weekly reward for them that actually helps with the Dragon Slayer weapons (Amalgamated Gemstone) or Charged Stormcaller weapons (Amalgamated Draconic Lodestone would be the likely material)
    • a better non-RNG way to obtain Volcanic Stormcaller weapons with tyrian defense seals as a currency (similar to the strike reward system), possibly requiring the Dragon slayer weaponset to be completed
    • relocate the mastery point currently behind Volcanic Stormcaller weapons to the Dragon Slayer weapons to make it more of an incentive to do DRMs as the Dragon Slayer weapons are accountbound essentially
--> Even doing DRMs daily I'm about half way to the 480 Prismaticite you need for the full Dragon slayer weaponset

Hatched Chilis are a problem but I don't feel Eternal Ice is. Eternal Ice can be traded for LS4 currencies and then either consumed for Volatile Magic or made into Ascended Trinkets.

Unless you plan on making Spicy Moa Wings for negligible profit (it's less cost effective than Cilantro Lime Sous-Vide Steak per hour) there is not much use for Hatched Chilis.

I don't even do the daily now. There is almost nothing to suffer through them at all. It really is hard to play knowing the next 3 episodes are just going to add more and just the next tier in masteries which is just the next tier in dragon weapons unlocking and a couple of weekly recruit factions. I swear that's all the next 4 months are and maybe they will surprise me. I don't even think 2g per mission would motivate me to play these anymore. Only way at this point is what they do with weekly strikes so you do a few for shards and 3 dailies per week for extra loot and shards to slowly unlock runic for volcanic. If they did this w drm's maybe I would do 3 a week for 3 crystals for a little extra loot and slow progress towards Volcanic

  • They generally feel slow and unrewarding.

    • Add more specific material boxes to the vendor so people can aim for more specific types of materials like lodestones.
    • Use dungeon instances instead story instances, so if the opener disconnects, the instance doesn't break, and the person who disconnected can go back in.
    • Pre-events feel like a waste of time. Either continue the events as soon as they are completed and the party has 5 players, or let players accumulate additional morale stacks every time each of the objectives is completed.
    • Allies go down too easily and generally feel useless. Give them the AoEs players can enter to revive them seen in the story, and/or improve the NPCs to be actually useful during the fights:
      • Give the golems from the golemancer a new skill to 'dismount' them that spawns them as NPCs rather than just undoing the transformation. Talking with them or the golemancer would ride them again. As NPCs, their skills will do 1/4 damage, but also take 1/4 of the damage from destroyers.
      • Make the norn shamans take 90% less damage from destroyers and regularly taunt them. Instead getting downed, norn will get stunned for 10 seconds.
      • Make the watchwork knights take 50% less damage from destroyers, and give them a skill that pulls enemies to them.
      • Make the Sylvan hounds AoE taunt for 2s instead dealing single target daze.

The trouble is that you need to spend karma in addition to Eternal Ice for the LS4 currencies, and I have better uses for my karma than to convert into LS4 mats for Volatile Magic (I already have a lot of these from occasional overflows from LS4 mats as well as using Volatile tools). Hence why Hatched Chilis, Eternal Ice and Prismaticite really need a base vendor value. (As do the other LS4 mats, really. Let the player decide if raw coin or VM is more worthwhile to them.)

Back on topic, I think another idea to speed up the DRMs (since a frequent complaint I've seen is that they take a while to complete) is to allow players to call for additional allies using Tyrian Seals. As it currently stands, talking to the NPC and asking for a specific ally only guarantees that particular ally in your ally spot. I think this should be changed so you could spend Tyrian Seals to get multiple allies showing up (with the cost progressively increasing for each additional allied faction). This has the benefits of not only speeding up the mission, but it can also be fun to see a bunch of different allies all working together. (A feeling that I've missed since the original Orr invasions and the final parts of HoT, seeing the Pact alongside other allied factions all charging the enemy together.) What's more, the ability to do this means that players who join in late can likely complete even CMs solo with the additional help, a useful option for if/when the player zerg moves on and DRMs become near-abandoned.

From start I am already got 2 (two)Volcanic Stormcaller weapons box. Don't see any reason to increase drop.

and opposite, increase drop rate for box will make that content obsolete soon

Very few people being very lucky doesn't mean stupidly low drop rates are fine.

so it we will get guaranteed drop from each run how much runs you will see after two weeks ?
Very good that drop is rare. Long life DRM!

  • For me it has nothing to do with droprates.

More so about GW2 vibes with missions, dungeons, etc.
GW2 vibe is, people hate those that don't know the mission.
You gotta have DKP, you gotta have watched youtube videos beforehand

    ALSO
GW2 making missions, dungeons, fractals, too dang long.
People are wanting more fast pace, not 20+ minutes to do something.

    ALSO
    Too much stuff to grind
    Gotta do daily fractal
    Gotta do daily T4 story
    Gotta do daily Icebrood saga
    Gotta do daily daily
    Too much kitten gotta do,
who has time for DRM when you have all this other kitten GOTTA do

    Gotta work on my legendary
    Gotta work on my skyscale
    Gotta do guild missions

Thing is some of this stuff, people only have time for one of em, like Fractals, usually takes about an hour unless you some pro and have friends you do it with. PUGs usually take an hour. And they burn you out.

    ALSO
    MMO trifecta
sure it maybe not healer tank, but its GW2 trifecta, you aint that healerbrand or whatever, nobody wants you.
Nobody wants to deal with looking at LFG, I aint a healerbrand but thats all I see people want, screw this, kitten DRM.
Got a lotta other stuff to do than be depressed I'm not healerbrand and can't find a group for DRM.

    Then do them solo.
