What weapon would you like to get for the next necromancer elite specialization?

Clarification: I added an option for "other" weapons, too, so you can tell us what currently non-existant weapon you would like to get as a necromancer.

    I choose rifle . I would love to see necro get a rifle that functions more about a close range power build with spread aoe similar to a shotgun to make it different from other rifles in game which focus more so on a longer range . With traps similar to rangers old ranged traps where they can be placed at range . Plus with exception of the mesmers pistol no light armoured classes use any guns or bows so it would make it stand out a bit . Instead of shroud they could have weapon hexes using life force to make the next few attacks deal more damage , cause a status to enemies and such

    I'd like to see mace similar to a holy paladin... Except like literally the opposite and focused on blood or death magic. Conversely I'd love to see an elite spec that has its own variation on staff skills.

    I picked shield because i want to see a higly defensive necro with tons of evades tons and tons of blocks invulns.Imagine if necro could do what guardian could.

    Here is my list of characters i got so far:

    Elementalist 80 with tempest:Talman nul
    Necromancer 80 with reaper:Zex vokar
    Mesmer level 80 no chrono yet:Klanga voosh.
    Level 80 Ranger with druid spec Jedkhan.

    This is the part where I'm going to point out that Guardians only ever use Shield for the knockback. It really isn't a defensive set. Focus is the weapon with the condi cleanse and blocks.

    That does remind me, Necro has Focus too. I had actually forgotten.

    This is a difficult decision for me.

    I had been asking for land spear for years and now thief has some staff animations that might be used with some modifications.

    Rifle was another old request for more focused use against single targets rather than staff's AoE.

    Necromancer's off hand weapon selections seem to cover most uses now that torch fills the condi dps role.

    Power Necro has MH/Dual axe and greatsword, OH horn and focus.
    Corruption Necro has MH sceptre and dagger, OH dagger.
    Condi dps Necro has MH/Dual sceptre and greatsword, OH torch.

    While I wished Scourge brought MH torch to better isolate its condition dps (and builds) from sceptre, that seems way too late to change.

    Thinking of the remaining gaps in weapon skills, not including weapons that only under-perform, the following come to mind:

    • Hard control effects
    • Mobility skills
    • Shareable buffs
    • Stealth
    • Finishers
    • Immunity skills

    If the next expansion also forgoes true shroud for another defense mechanic , I would like weapon and traits that make Necro a hybrid of Mesmer clones and minions; something like staff that is primarily a utility weapon. (In fact, there is no reason why a new elite trait line cannot radically change a current weapon's skills.)

    For utilities, banners or traps seem to have potential.

    Sword would be my first choice, but honestly we have a lot of good offensive options as is.

    Shield would give us (presumably) blocking abilities, and it would mark our first active defense abilities (which would be fantastic).

    Perhaps a blocking ability that corrupts boons when attacks are blocked on the "4" ability and a reflect that gives us retaliation on the "5" ability.

    I don't see why you're asking for new weapons when almost all of the ones that Necro has right now are trash. If they add any more, it'd be best to just remove what already exists. Or just compact what little good rests in the Necro weapon line-up into 2-3 weapons that aren't hot garbage.

    Close call between Mace and Hammer. Like the idea of a "pure" power build with absolutely no damaging condition on any Trait, Weapon-, shroud- or utility skill. Bitter Chill massively screwed over power reapers making a power oriented spec still being run for one single trait as a condi build.

    I think of a Ranged-hammer similar to Rev. I'd like interactions with slowness, like something along the line of a "dead weight", in the sense of a grave-digger. A cage (similar to DH LB 5), a crippling field and a strong knockdown (3s or something)

    I chose shield primarily for nostalgic reasons. However I feel an offhand like that would be great for a lich like mm spec that needs stronger utility from their chosen weapon. A mh won't cut it since their skills tend to be weaker and more spammy.

    Actually, a main-hand focus that acts like a fist weapon.

    Martial arts specialization focused on burst damage and debuffing enemies with Touch/physical skills is something I've had at the back of my mind for a while.

    Maybe Anet could give necros a mainhand sword and an offhand shield together with the next expansion. :3

    but lets say i trust them to fix just 1 of those, so the next choice is obvious - RANGED POWER damage, so i voted SHORTBOW.

    I once spent a boring PD day envisioning a new elite spec with a mainhand sword as its weapon and a focus on shadow magic, mobility and blindness. It's basically meant as a pure power spec with no condi applications (unlike reaper) and party wide USEFUL buffs (outgoing damage increased by 10%, incoming damage decreased by 10% etc). I envisioned it as Sword/Warhorn working best for melee (Axe and focus for range). I lost the paper I doodled everything on though :/

    Necro is mainly missing melee condi and ranged power, so I could see sword being that melee, and Rifle being either. A Shotgun focusing on conditions and cc, or long range with lifestealing and elixirs for a Plague Doctor vibe.

    Shield - it would have been perfect for scourge to get a shield seeing that the it was initially conceptualized to be support oriented. Well maybe next time, necromancers can get a shield and finally get access to blocks.

    Erm, what? Axe is a great power range weapon and focus is a great compliment to it. With the Reaper spec, Greatsword is the go to melee condi weapon with Deathly Chill and Chilling Darkness (highly ironic considering GS is also our best melee power weapon).

    I'd like a sword/shield or a mace/shield combo. Or maybe sword/axe.

    Call the elite specialization "The Fallen" -- necromancers who died on the field but refused to stay dead. Dying affected their control over magics, causing them to spill out uncontrollably. The shroud mechanic is replaced by veils -- plague veil, darkness veil, and blood veil -- and like elementalist attunements, you're constantly in one of these three and each adds effects to your five weapon attacks. Veils are a little bit different than regular attunements, though. They're always on, and as you gain life force, the swirling veils increase in size around The Fallen, affecting additional enemies. Your life force degrades, though, so if you don't stay in combat, you lose life force and your veils shrink back down. At any point, The Fallen can activate their veil, similar to how necromancers enter their shroud and tempests overload, enhancing the veil (ooooh, pretty visual funsies!) and decaying at a set rate that is NOT as stupidly fast as barriers. Activating the veil, though? Once your life force decays down to zero after the veil is activated, you're randomly tossed into another attunement and cannot re-enter that attunement until it comes off cooldown.

    I envision them as hybrid dps, self-sustaining bruisers that lead the charge and excel at close range combat to fully utilize their veils.

    Ah, to dream...

    I'm a bit surprised so many have voted for the main hand sword. Seems rather unnecessary considering we have dagger, axe and gs as our melee power options. That's already quite a few.

    I would suggest a main-hand focus but thats kinda re-using a weapon already offered to us. (maybe a neat vanilla elite spec - if there were to ever be such a thing)

    I think what might be fairly nice to see is a ranged power option. We have so much emphasis on AOE it becomes a bit tiresome which is why I wouldn't really be interested in another cleaving power option. A rifle or longbow would be the obvious suggestions but I think there are other possibilities.

    I would like to see a main hand mace act like a long-range power nuker (power version of a scepter). Some cool dark magic blasts.

    Quick Main-hand Mace Concept

    [M1] Soul Crack: Does damage to foe and leaves behind a floating black wisp that will detonate on contact with an enemy for extra damage.
    [M2] Nullcore: Fire a slow moving ball of destructive energy in chosen direction. Deals X damage based on the enemies remaining hp. The ball will detonate black wisps in its path. Reactivate - Detonate orb to deal a third of its damage in an area instead.
    [M3] Vex Smite: Slam your mace against nearby foe, converting 3 boons into conditions. For every boon converted, gain a stack of swiftness.

    I went with shield, I think it would be kitten to have the shield be a portal and it's used to tank and buff, with some synergy to a newly reviewed Death Magic trait line.
