What kind of skins do you like?

I love skins like Emberglow and Stoneshard Scepter Skin. The legendary scepter Xiuquatl also looks great! I like how they're huge compared to most skins of that weapon type. They look especially fitting on larger races like Norn or Charr! I like the long handle on the scepters, makes them kinda more menacing compared to the short ones. Swords as well.

The tiny ones are weird looking to me, or the ones with tiny handle and huge end part, those look ridiculous. Like Meteorlogicus. It's just so bulbous lol. Too much.

What kind of skins do you like in terms of overall size?

If (for the purposes of the question) Twin Sisters is considered small, Crystalline Blade is considered "base" or medium, and Heroic Dragonsblood Sword is considered large...

What sizes of weapons, compared to their "normal size" do you like most?
Or do you not care at all as long as the skin looks good?

To me, the larger skins tend to look more balanced, especially on a charr. That's partly because of the charr size of course.

And now i realize i forgot the 4th "no preference" option.

Yeah the proportions on that are horrid haha. But it used it as an example for "small" weapons because it's very short compared to other swords. Same would go for like Princess Wand as opposed to Emberglow. Princess wand is very short and small compared to the big Emberglow skin.

But the Twin Sisters are not that. As for swords, Ancient Boreal Sword is currently one of my favourites. And then stuff like Claw of Execution or Privateer Wand.

If we go by most swords skins, since half of the blade (at least) is covered by the massive hilt (especially on greatswords) we can only wonder if the commander uses the blade to cut the enemies or if they simply pummel them to death with the hilt. I don't like swords anyway, but the only "realistic" skins are the basic skins like the bronze sword and co.

What about other weapons? That scepter i linked is probably as big as a staff, i think that's cool.

Small skins are generally wasteful since they are too hard to see abd large ones are more often ridiculous looking outside of a Final Fantasy game.

Most of weapons are too small to be seen imo. Especially on asura, standard axes looks like a spoon.

Skins are a very personal taste indeed. The weapon skins I like best in the whole game are the Fossilized Insect skins that you can earn in Dry Top. I love the idea of each weapon having a unique Insect trapped in Barnstone somewhere in the weapon. I like Geology and Paleontology, the insects are well visible, and they have unique names too. I like them better then all of my Legendary weapons, exept Verdarach, that horn is way cool and so over the top. :)

As for the vote, I would vote for both Medium and Large, I think truly small weapons are simply not visible enough. I could see how a roleplayer would beg to differ on this.

I don't think about the size, I just consider whether it suits one or more of my characters, with the main factors being the colour scheme and the effects. Usually I have a specific character who needs a new skin for something so I preview them using that character and pick the one I think looks best.

The only time size came into it was when choosing a greatsword for my asuran guardian because the basis of that character was 'maybe I'd find guardian less boring if it was a tiny girl with a huge sword holding off all the enemies' and even then I ended up getting her Eclipse instead of the Pact Avenger which is bigger but does fit her colour scheme as well.

(And yes it is absurd that the hilt, or rather the crossguard, is about 1/2 the length of the blade and between that and the feathering on the blade itself the usable section is relatively small. But I didn't choose this one for realism.)

I like weapon skins where the decorations don't cover the blade and mostly symmetrical shoulder skins that aren't absurdly big or floating like most of them.

I simply loathe the oversized weapon skins. They look dumb and childish, like out of a bad comic book or like one is trying to compensate for something.

  • Fuchslein.8639Fuchslein.8639 Member ✭✭✭

I like all sizes. Do not want to exclude anyone and make anyone feel bad.

  • Medium

Depends on the weapon, for example, I prefer bows to be medium, daggers to be small/medium, and shields to be medium/large.

  • Mungo Zen.9364Mungo Zen.9364 Member ✭✭✭

It depends on the character race I am playing I think. I like super oversized great swords on Asuran but prefer more median GS on Sylvari. I don’t care about daggers on Asuran but will go with larger scaled daggers on Sylvari (as they are actually easier to see).

That said, I do not display my weapons outside of combat. I found holstered weapons tend to clip like mad and ruin the rest of my appearance.

I also didn’t select a choice as option 4: no preference would be my choice.

Animated skins that put them outside the norm of what you would normally find in their category. Rotating focus skins are pretty neat. Shoulders being effect placeholders.

There needs to be more of this sort of thing. New backpieces also need to stop being limited to capes.

Yet, use them on a Charr, and they seem to fit perfectly haha.

Sometimes i do that as well for my characters. But some of the skins that fit 100% on the look i'm going for end up being comically small in the hands of a Charr or a Norn.

Most weapons look very small on Asuras don't they? You can hardly see them even if you're playing them, let alone seeing one wield it.
Maybe they should scale all models uniformly a bit better? Cause they're obviously just scaled down models from the "standard" model. Maybe they can make them bigger without much effort, who knows.

Since you refer to the Twin Sisters as small, I'm definitely in the small category. But to me that's more of a medium sized sword.
That said, there aren't any good-looking decent-sized sword skins so I'm basically forced to use the chunky ones.

Yeah i already said that was a bad example haha.
A better example of "small" weapons, especially swords would be Iron Legion Combat Blade or Resonator.

  • The size is not what matters...

    Ahem.

For me, I prefer more realistic looking skins that, but I don't mind some shine to them. Things like the Vigil Greatsword I hate, but Gallant Greatsword? Hell yeah, give me that skin.

Things like the Aureate, Krytan, Seraph weapons, and Hero weapons are more of my jam. Gate of Goodbyes is one of my favorite shield skins.

I feel the same about armor sets. Realistic, but detailed, and with only a few particle/glowing parts as accents.

  • Regardless of size. I love skins that are pretty.

Some of my favorite skins: Bloodstone Rifle Skin, Merciless Mace Skin, Cavalier Greatsword Skin, Endless Ocean Axe Skin, Devoted Hammer Skin, Glacial Sword Skin, Equinox Shield Skin, Orchestral Staff Skin, Favor of the Colossus, Lord Caudecus's Sword Skin and many more.

Most of them are small~medium so it's anything but large I guess?

Honorable mention: Privateer Scepter Skin was my favorite scepter skin (makes me feel like some witch straight from some fantasy world) before Aurous Wand Scepter Skin and Cerulean Wand Scepter Skin become available.

More swords and mace would be nice. Lots of room for growth. But pls do more realistic, exquisite looking weapons less plastic, cartoonish ones with many effects.
Most welcome are the historically accurate ones. Those that look heavy, some fine details, with a good balance good grip, and can smash things up pretty good. :)

When stowed it should show sword in scabbard if any. So much ideas on pinterest nowadays. Make them... Put at BLTC for us gamers... <3<3 lol
And discard the uglier ones.. :3 Time to upgrade the GW sword section!

It is not a matter of size, but of less "silly and cartoonish".
There are lots of historical weapons out there, but 99% of swords are not like Bonetti's Rapier, but a big glowing paddle you wave around. This applies to almost all other weapons (historical pollaxe please, to have one hammer that can actually be wielded by a person). Oh, more medium armour without a coat? A gambeson? A Milanese or Gothic/Maximillian style plate armour?

Well, you poll is about size if weapons, which I think is not the problem when the skin looks like a weapon that can be wielded by about 70% laws of physics and 30% magic.
I can put another skin on my legendary any time, I just have to have one that looks historical.
Historical arms and armour does not look plain and awful (google Munich town guard sword) and GW2 hasn't embraced a lot of swords from different RL cultures. There is no German Langmesser, no Greek Falcata, no Indian Pata or Tulwar and no south east asian swords at all, if I am right skimming the gallery. We have some that look close to historical weapons, like Caudacus rapier or a Roman gladius type sword. But there are only a few of those.

I guess I like "normal" size. And not too fancy/weird. (A bit shining and glowing is okay. But not super huge stuff with weird shapes, etc.)

  • There are a couple of things that drive me nuts on some of the skins in the game. Like sharp and/or pointy bits poking out everywhere that would only serve to destroy yourself IRL. Like the Mistward Warboots that have pointy bits on the inside of the leg - pointing directly up at your femoral artery on your other leg. IRL, you go running with those on and you're going to stick yourself in the thigh and bleed out in 30 to 55 seconds.

Another item that bugs me is where some of the skins attach to the body when "sheathed". The Heroic Dragonsblood Sword is particularly bad - it attaches to the character model at the hips fairly low on the handle of the sword, instead of at the cross guard. This makes the tips always clip on the ground, regardless of terrain. It's really bad aesthetically and would probably put me in a murderous rage if someone treated one of my blades like that in real life.

The only criteria I have for preferred skins are those that don't look like one might kill themselves while wielding them, or fall over while carrying them (even assuming asura magic tech attachment device for carrying on back).

For example all the random spikes on various sword hilts that appear more likely to take your own arm off. xD

Sunrise/Twilight I give a pass because the paint effect is too beautiful.

Medium to Large-ish. It depends a great deal on the design its self. I find kitten near all of the scepters to be badly designed: they're often too short, too bulbous at the end, and too often indistinguishable from maces. I'd been using the same scepter for my elementalist for almost eight years (classic Pact scepter) because it was pretty much exactly what I think most scepters should have as their general size and shape.
My opinion is much the same about one handed sword, or arming swords as they're call historically. Even as far back as GW1 I felt that they were making arming swords just a little too short, and after a few years of watching Shadiversity's videos on swords this has only been reinforced. Swords are supposed to give you reach and the arming swords of this game don't as often do that, though I will say that they aren't as bad as the above mentioned scepters, I have a much easier time finding one handed sword that I like.

I wouldn't mind some simple looking weapon skins for once.
Sometimes the gaudy huge swords do not fit my aesthetic at all.

It's simply vexing to find a simple, single edged sword, but yur only options are :

    • A Scimitar (the best choice so far)
    • A Katana which for some reason is extremely long and glows green
    • Something that's basically a cleaver, and a very long one
    • One of many giant swords

If I play a stupid build, I deserve to die.
If I beat people on a stupid build, I deserve to get away with it.

  • Small

It's not the size that counts. It's how you use it!

But seriously, a lot of the skins and models in this game are so large that they look off-balance. They're so big that they're overpowering at times. Like I'm not carrying a sword insomuch as a sword has me attached to it at the base.

And now i realize i forgot the 4th "no preference" option.

In general, I like medium sized weapons. But.... I'd like weapons to a have fixed size. Right now, you can have a weapon, nicely sized on your Charr or Norn, that just is tiny on an Asura, while it would have looked awesome on an Asura if it had been the same size as on that Charr or Norn.

I noticed that as well, it's like the weapons aren't uniformly scaling across races.
A big huge sword or greatsword, or even a long scepter look just about right on a Charr, but look a bit too big for a human. Asuras have all sorts of weird problems with weapons and how they look on them as well.
