Balance patch notes...

Where are they? They used to come out at the end of each PvP season. We have been stuck in this stale meta for such a long time. I think June was the last time I saw balance notes. These are my favorite notes to read. They change traits, add new traits, replace old ones. They also address power creep. ANET said they would be visible about these things yet we haven't heard a word about them. Are they just putting all their eggs in one basket with EoD cause that would be a very unwise thing to do... I want answers 😭

Much like everything else, they got down the list in order to work on the elite specs.

Theres 2 teams, the team that balances pvp and wvw and the team that works on combat in general and pve balance.

Its safe to assume that both are rn working on the canthan elite specs, one to design them from the ground up and balance them for pve and the other to split balance them for pvp and wvw (maybe even get a hand on designing them for the competirive modes so they are easier to balance there idk).

Long story short the expansion is the big priority for the combat team rn. Wether thats the right move to make from anets side thats another topic, personally i think new specs are more importand rn.

Okay what you did just there, is prove my point. If what you are saying is the case, they are tunneling, they have blinders on, they are putting all their eggs in one basket. Also, that's another thing too.. you don't know.. no one knows! What you said up there was an assumption. They aren't being visible with there kitten player base. Another point proved. I'm not going to sit here and let people constantly make excuses for Arenanet. I'm sick of it, they need to own up to their mistakes and address their community like they did in the pass.
It's been 8 months since they released a balance patch, 8 months... That's almost a kitten year. Prioritization is important but you work on other facets of the project as you get x amount far in a another part. Ya, know? What they have done is not conducive to upkeeping an MMO. They need to address certain balance issues on PVE as well as PVP/WvW. I mean to give a snap shot, Firebrand is OP for fractals now. If you're at lease somewhat good with the rotation one gets high burst as well as Dps sustain. A lot of pug groups for CM 100 ask for a FB as dps option. Andddddd that's just one thing. So let that sink in.

They made hundreds of balance tweeks since June you know? We've had balance patchs every 2 to 3 months, the last in december. They addressed "powercreep" again and again (be it the necromancer, the engineer, the ranger, the guardian and thief, all of them had builds that rose and fell through 2020). Logically the next one should appear in february/march.

Also, when they said they would communicate more, it was a month or 2 before massive lay off and not long before C-19 first outbreak. Do you really expect them to be more communicative with less staff to do the same amount of work? This kind of announcement is like new year vow, it's quickly forgotten if things goes south.

Pls...this forum has been crying "Power Creep" since the game inception....as long as somebody dies to something....it's always powercreep

  • The meta is stale because no one tries new builds when they are in plat. There is a counter for almost anything, but people pick the traits and utilities that offer the best chance of survival.

Problems start when you allow builds to do everything from teamfight to support ending in sidenoding , people have stopped trying to fight as a team and instead they stack these "Rambo" builds and zerg from point A to B, when that happen ofc there will be no build diversity....why try to counter that build when you can play a certain spec on a certain class and achieve easy victory by stacking it?

I don't care anymore, i stopped playing after the last patch and i won't return until they really put some effort in balancing classes.

The power creep crying is about core classes getting nerf to nothing so the elite spec. are balanced kind of. That is the def of powercreep and pay to win for pvp games.

It definitely seems this way most of the time, tho there have been odd occasions where core on some classes were meta. Imo it's better to buff core and give SLIGHT nerfs to especs so the especs are more of a side grades to core (as they were apparently supposed to be) last couple yrs games been on the "depowercreep" phase and anets going to far to the point a lot of the fun factor gained from the classes and their specs is dwindling along with the powercreep which results in player loss. Anets gotta find the line where u keep things in control but also not decrease the enjoyment of use or the effort is completely wasted. They need need to actually go through each class and spec and make changes and reworks instead of this half kitten approach of just changing few numbers of the specs most complained about. Game wont Improve until then.

If what you are saying is the case, they are tunneling, they have blinders on, they are putting all their eggs in one basket.

According to one of the devs in guild chat the opportunity to work on EoD was literally dropped on them mid development of IBS and being smth A BIG BIG portion of the playerbase was asking for and the devs were excited to work on you can imagine how volatile it was for the plans they had up to that point. Its worth remembering the monthly patches were happening for some time too. (maybe if someone tracks when they stop and when its speculated that they started working on EoD the two could be lining up, idk). The studio right then and there had to make a choice (or the choice was made for them) and considering the seer hype EoD has created i think they took the right one.

Also, that's another thing too.. you don't know.. no one knows! What you said up there was an assumption.

Not sure what this refers too, what i talked about for both elite specs and the structure is up to date to what we know so far based on previous posts and comments on stream. Im not gonna bother to dig to find them, so take my my words as you may.

Prioritization is important but you work on other facets of the project as you get x amount far in a another part. Ya, know? What they have done is not conducive to upkeeping an MMO.

This isnt how they've always done things but it is how they tent to do things when they lack direction, planning and have things change midway. (Another time this happened was when they announced HoT, they had a vague plan and the game went on a full on drought before and after HoT) When they did have seemingly solid direction and planning was after hot when they started work on PoF as well as working on se3 and then seemlessly going from s3 into PoF into s4.

They need to address certain balance issues on PVE as well as PVP/WvW. I mean to give a snap shot, Firebrand is OP for fractals now. This is always the case. As i said they are weighting their options with what limited resources and manpower they have rn. There might be working internally on some changes to adress the issues but these will prob be part of a mega balance patch as we've had before expansions in the past. Ill tell you what, they could do both but that could likely push back EoD and alot of ppl really just stick around for the expac stuff.

Difference being that they have their entire staff working towards the next expansion when that wasn’t the case for PoF.

This isn’t me saying that there shouldn’t be more balance patches. I’m just pointing out that things are much different now from the period before PoF.

No guys you just don't get it. ANet is working SO HARD on the expansion. Like REALLY hard. You can't criticize them for ignoring the rest of the game (DRMs count as content? Balance? Alliances KEKW? Legendary armoury? Expac details?). You guys just don't understand that these things don't matter when we're getting an EXPANSION that they're really working hard on to make sure it's good. Just believe in ANet they always deliver!!!1!1! :^)

there are many reasons people think there should have been a balance patch. if you're saying because of size they can't do it then that sounds like an internal issue that needs to be solved. I mean you don't drive your car on empty without eventually filling up, do you?

I'm pretty sure that's how we end up with traits that have 300s CD.

Even the most dedicated player have it's bias and his own point of view of what the game should be. Among those dedicated players, some think that there shouldn't be proc effects, other that downed players shouldn't be able to rally... etc. Without forgetting that the grass always seem greener in the neighbour garden.

Staying objective is difficult when some of your interest are involved into the thing you have to balance. I wouldn't trust a player to be objective.

But can you really be objective when you got less affinity for a profession's gameplay than another? You surely can't expect someone to have perfect affinity for every profession, right? Is balancing based on what you "feel" is strong or weak through playing a way to balance objectively?

ANet have been balancing based on what sPvP players were feeling for a long time. Invuln frame have been nerfed to the ground in sPvP because players felt it was strong, damage have been dramatically reduced because players felt it was overwhelming, CC are what they are right now because PvP players asked them to be there... etc. Most balance change I've seen along the years have been asked to be made into the sPvP subforum by players. Yet players think it was better before...

I'm not saying your expectations aren't reasonable, in an ideal world they are. But the world is flawed, people are flawed and it's way easier to temporarily please the crowd by giving them what they ask than find the perfect answer to the vague feeling that can come for bias or not.

If you're at lease somewhat good with the rotation one gets high burst as well as Dps sustain. A lot of pug groups for CM 100 ask for a FB as dps option. Andddddd that's just one thing. So let that sink in.

Not really making excuses for them, just whats happening with how the studio was operating up until they got the opportunity to work on eod. Its a kitten development circle for the mmo because most ppl rn want the expac but nobody wanted for kitten to change so much to where ibs got shafted and balance patches went extinct.

The studio lacked propper planning and direction and now we are seeing the fruits of that. I guess you cant have a direction if you dont have a game director.

What you fail to realize is putting out another expansion does not mean the game will get fixed in fact it will cause a lot more problems in the future in terms of balancing.
The devs have been radio silent for so long regarding "more frequent balance patches" or "alliances" these were promised by them. Stop giving ANET excuses and let them own up.

Like Braham, they need to own their mistakes.
