Have to wait 10 days to unlock mount due to world transfer...

I upgraded my account this week from free to play to the standard edition.I joined a guild. I took days to hit level 80.Then, I switched server so I could participate in the guild's WvW training before Friday's reset. It was all fun and games.I was told that I'd need to complete the Warclaw Reward Track to unlock a mount for WvW.

Spent all day today grinding only to realize that I cannot unlock the mount until Friday, February 19th, all because I transferred world to meet up with my guild mates...

Why can't I unlock the mount after completing the Warclaw Reward Track? Why does it cost 50 WvW Skirmish Tickets instead of the 40 I acquired through the reward track + the free 2nd helmet from the vendor?I can't get pips until I have spent a full week (Fri-Fri) in the new world server.

This seems like a punishment for a new player. Is it really necessary to prevent a new player from acquiring their first mount all because of a world transfer?

I understand the logic behind preventing the acquisition of pips if you world transfer: to prevent people from abusing the world transfer system. But there really is no reason to punish new players and prevent them from being able to keep up with people during WvW for over a week just because they switched servers to play with a guild...

I spent all day grinding to finish the Warclaw reward track, and now I can't even unlock the mount for over a week. It's pretty much ruined my day. All of that effort, anticipation and looking forward to enjoying the content I grinded so hard to enjoy only to be told I can't have it until I wait 10 days. And this is after I just spent money upgrading from F2P.

Anyway I couldn't find a suggestions thread and I'm pretty sure the devs will ignore this entirely so I guess this is just me venting a horrible experience.

the claim tickets are locked to make swapping worlds simply harder, it's rather directed against all the old players who (anyways, despite this) frequently swap servers. either way, people also create "alt accounts" to be on more than one server the same time kinda .

it's a bit off, but the whole "link system" was initially announced as a "temporary solution", and most players dislike it and think it is flawed.

if u want to get something out of Wvw, believe me one thing, you will need to learn patience. we wait three years now for a system update (#allianceswhen) and we got content in form of nerfs every half year or so.

for each ascended mistforged armor piece you additionally will need a lot of claim tickets (which are timegated per week), plus grandmaster marks for the weapon aequivalents (which are made from 10 shards, and per week u get 3 shards)

Wvw is reward wise overall starved as hell. playing this as newbie is tough, but doable. especially fighting guilds is a good farm option.

Wow, three years for updates is a bit crazy!

I don't mind grinding or farming. What bugged me is that I don't think a mount should be gated by the systems in place to prevent world transfer abuse. It's very restrictive for new players who don't even know that world transfer locks the ability to progress in WvW Skirmish reward track. It could be communicated better, so that at least we could unlock our mount before making a transfer, considering it took me less than 3 days to finish the Warclaw track, but I have to wait 10 days due to the restrictions for world transfer.

If they simply made the mount cost 40 WvW Skirmish tickets, I would have been able to unlock it. The fact that the vendor sells the helmet for 0 skirmish tickets even though you already get the helmet during the reward track leads me to believe that the devs had at one point considered this stuff and probably (halfheartedly) did this to make it possible to get the mount but maybe they miscalculated and thought it already costed 40 skirmish tickets instead of 50. Honestly, I cannot understand the logic of putting the helmet for sale for 0 skirmish tickets outside of giving the 5 free skirmish tickets for consuming it. But those tickets are basically useless because the track only provides 35 tickets, not 45. So those extra 5 tickets don't allow completion of the mount.

It just doesn't make sense, and based on what you mentioned, I gather that this issue exists because of neglect on the developers part. I found someone else who had the exact same problem as me (and seemingly the same level of anger and frustration) based on their posts from March 2019. It would be nice if the devs fixed this so that it doesn't affect players in the future as it's a bad experience that is likely a turnoff to any new customers (I actually see people refunding their premium subs over this, ngl).

Well, here's to hoping the devs fix it within the next 3 years, lol.

New players dont normally transfer, and the people that normally transfer dont give a hit about being locked out of reward chests. So yeah kinda agree its a pointless thing to lock people out for rewards, when the rewards for wvw are a joke.

I agree anets communication could be 100% better to let players know upon transferring what this will entail i,e you will be locked out from certain things etc etc

Warclaw is needed for wvw and will make your experience more enjoyable! you can run from fights and evade to avoid pvp monkas

Yeah, that makes sense. I only transferred world because I joined a guild and they had a WvW training session.

And I was only disappointed about the mount because I wanted to participate with my guild at reset, so I spent over 10 hrs grinding the day prior in order to finish the Warclaw reward track in 1 day, then got gated out of unlocking it due to the world transfer, so it sort of ruined my experience. But yeah, 10 days is not a huge wait for just WvW. Waiting 4 days for Trading Post has been worse hahaha, considering I haven't been able to buy runes/sigils for all of my equipment and I feel inferior when I do team-focused content like running dungeons and stuff.

But yeah you are right after first month playing all this stuff will be in the past.

Just would be good if new players knew about the world transfer stuff, at least I think it would help a lot for future players since I imagine a lot of people would want to join a guild their first week like I did. At least fixing the mount cost to 40 skirmish tickets instead of 50 really wouldn't change much (I think) and wouldn't affect the restrictions to world transfer at all.

it would be great if new players got any info about wvw before, but well... if u talk to the instructor NPC in your home border map spawnside, you'll get a laughing flash. one dialogue is still "coming soon", after probably 9 years. (the "what else can u tell me / advanced advice" or sth alike)

@SypherZent.3684 if u have a build slow free, fill it with all mobility skills of your class, should at least be able to roughly keep up with the rest then. kinda know it can be a bit annoying because in the release week of warclaw all maps been nearly 24/7 queued, and u could hardly get it fast unless u had stocked up many wvw-potions for the reward track. those who had it been few back then, but after 2 more weeks the hype been gone and people had yet very mixed feels about it. even now, you rather dismount before battle begins, since u need to waste a stunbreak otherwise or get stomped after getting forcefully dismounted by attacks (and the warclaw does not your your charcters bulk, it is very squishy)

ya is anet ignoring the game mode for couple of years, alot of employee who did the small stuff which has been added are let go in high numbers and therefore not in the company anymore. false management decisions of the old ceo mike o brien who also left to hide in a new company.

he even once said "wvw players are really into pve" welcome to the millenium company style...

Yeah, I did that during the day I was grinding the reward track. For now I decided to stop WvW until I can get pips again. There's a lot of other stuff to do in the game, so I am thankful for that. Today I finally get full Trading Post and will buy runes/sigils and see how much stronger I get. I might also have enough gold for first gems purchase after running Silverwastes for like 3 days straight haha. It's been fun, ngl.

Thank you! I actually am enjoying it since I've been keeping busy with other activities that aren't WvW. Really enjoying the game a lot.

You hear this a lot in the gaming industry, how the devs get let off in high numbers once a game is done or once a portion of a game is done and they are no longer needed. It's pretty sad. I would think GW2 generates enough to keep a dedicated team of coders for constant improvements unless the company is really capitalizing and trying to maximize profits. I wouldn't presume to know how anet operates, but I can only hope they keep the product in good shape. I just got here after all, and I'd like to stay for a while. xD

Really happy how everyone responding is real nice, too. I'm liking this game a lot also because of the helpful and considerate community.

It sucks that you have to wait to get the mount because of transferring, but if your guild knows you don't have it, they should be able to give you Warclaw's Blessing passively while you run with them providing they have the mastery themselves. I know it's not ideal, but it should at least help you stay with the group until you get your mount. In my guild we often pick up new players to the mode and our tags will either stay dismounted or make sure that they're being escorted by other players with Warclaw's Blessing where possible. Personally I'd keep playing WvW so you can rank up with WxP and gain mastery points to spend because oh boy you're going to need them.

It's a punishment for returning players as well. When you used to enjoy WvW and now find that you're literally stuck playing solo because you're the only one on the map without a mount? It sucks. It really sucks. If they're going to give that kind of insane mobility to people, we should all get it from the get go. Otherwise, it's some fairly shoddy gatekeeping. I do not want to know how many people tried WvW, had no fond memories to look back upon and decided that they're simply not going to bother, because everyone is on a mount except for them.
