Trial Transfer

Over stacked servers are continually complained about.

Why don't we offer a carrot to themMoving:Trial Transfer.

Before mega servers were in place, people would 'guest' on a server to see if they liked that community for PvE or other activities.

Why not offer a three day transfer for the normal gem price to an unlocked server, with a requirement that at the end of those three days, they have to confirm the transfer, or revert back to their server. Gems would be lost.

If provides a way for people to see how another server operates before fully committing.

I would not want it to be available through reset, so only Sunday through Wednesday maybe. Those people couldn't count towards the servers activity until they confirm the transfer, but would count against their former server until the transfer.

I thought only from full servers, but I would guess maybe it could be any server..

I think originally guesting allowed WvW, but I am not certain.

No it never did for WvW.

The idea is interesting but nobody's going to cough up gems for three days. Add to that the ability to completely mess with other servers and well ... Some folks would find it entertaining to invade another server, create chaos, then jump back home without any risk on their end, if the gems aren't prohibitive.

TDLR: we can't have nice things.

That can be solved. Players on 3-day visits cannot pull tactivators, throw siege and a number of other limitations.

Way back at the start you could switch wvw servers at no cost once every 24 hours. I don't remember the actual guesting function ever allowing wvw guesting, though I could be wrong on that.

I really would like this. I hear so many mixed opinions about different servers and tiers it's hard to make a decision.

I would prefer not to need to pay gems for a trial. Or maybe pay the gems and then you can revert back and gain your gems back sort of like the level 80 boost. It doesn't make sense to pay gems to transfer for 3 days and then transfer out essentially. I want to find out whether I actually want to transfer and commit the gems in the first place, not waste gems on it.

Also it can be solved with limitations including not being able to use your commander tag while on trial nor use any siege, tactivators, take any supply, etc. Maybe even give the player a symbol next to their name that shows they are on trial for full transparency. Pretty much you can only run around, wp, follow squads, observe, fight.

This many limitations justifies the free trial via down payment and you can get your gems back if you revert.

I respectfully disagree - because it's like trying to put a band-aid on a severed arm. Server ranking just does not work. What we need are fighter guild rankings.even being a top seerver means you get stuck in the same matches over and over and over. That is just stale.

Please don't make this happen, abolish server based wvw all together and bring the value of "Guilds" back to "Guild" wars please.

Its also been suggested before, long before links existed. I call it the "mercenary system", with a group of floaters that would join on low pop WvW - even when just their server has queues. Anet opted for links and the effect is sort of the same... but the link system is a little too rigid, too long before relinks to be fillers.

As a roamer I like this idea. But what if multiple large scale guilds from a closed server decides to guest on other servers? Then after 3 days they'd be back on their main server. Is 3 days enough to tip the balance between player activity which might lead to a stacked server opening up?

Theoretically no.

HOWEVER, I suggested the activity time not cost the server you did the trial on, but the activity counts against your server you may leave.

The main thought was a carrot to help with destacking.

If there would be no gem cost, then it would have to be a long time between allowed guesting.

I added that part to hopefully limit gaming the system.

So the only benefit this offers is if for some reason they wanted to transfer back to their original server, then they wouldn't have to repay the transfer costs.

No. Waste of resources to implement a system that helps people who didn't do their research limit their losses.

If you are spending THAT much gold/gems on a transfer you better know what to expect out of it. And as it is now, its better to make them rough it out and find a place on the server rather than flushing all the gold/gems down the toilet after just 3 mere days.

pointless idea. and none of that helps fix overstacked servers. ur idea doesn't do anything other than facilitate a safer way for people to continue losing....

Its like a casino advertising that it gives people who lose all their money 'piece of mind' by providing them a free room to spend the night....then after they can go wallow on the streets.

So many dumb ideas to be read, so little time.

Oh server sabotage comes in many forms, not just tactivators/siege.Think server queues. Then think about other possibilities.

You are correct.

One of the reasons I suggested only being available Sunday through and ending no later than Wednesday.
