Rifles, are they useful?

Recommended Posts

Excelsior.

Just like in real life, Rifles are primarily tools. It depends on the owner how he or she uses them and if they are efficient. In the hands of my Asura Deadeye, the (sniper) rifle is a beautiful weapon and since PoF basically my primary weapon, it is literally stuck to my Asura's back as I never unequip it in my hero panel, just the secondary weapons here and there. My Asura Engineer for example hates the rifle (read as: I don't like the skills tied to Engineer Rifle).

Since Deadeye is a beautiful rifle-based profession and - unlike Engineer - all the skills are useful (to me), I like my rifle. However, if you don't like rifles, or the skills they provide all over the different professions, rifles are useless to said person. It's all about preferences and subjectivity.I see many people love to dive into enemies and mash buttons, swinging gigantic swords around, others enjoy casting spells, yet others turn into reapers or command their pets around.

I however enjoy sitting in the high grass and...zMSeYgL.jpg

For Warrior, it's not a great weapon. You might see someone in PvP/WvW with it for the Berserker Gunflame lawls, but it's generally slow and not so great. For Engineer, there are so many kits/etc to use, I don't see much need for it. And even if Juggernaut is a noob trap, it's a really good one above and beyond a basic rifle. And sadly, Deadeye's rifle doesn't seem to do enough damage for all that needs to go into it. Sure, a kneeling Magnificent Seven #4 can hit like a truck, but by the time some fights go that long, they're already over.

All ranged weapons have one common enemy Rangers longbow as long anet doesnt fix the longbows having an actual 2300 range instead of the listed 1500 evwrything else is lackluster except for rev hammer, i made a rev just for wvw zerg destruction, RIP engineer rifles though that one doesnt even have power scaling

Unlike in real life, rifles in GW2 suck. The devs don't know whether they want the rifles to fire magic bullets, normal bullets, be muzzle loading, be breach loading, use cartridges, use ammunition, or use black powder and a bullet. Whether they should use automatic fire, semi automatic fire, or what.

The Asura have magi technology but the furries have steampunk technology while everyone else has dark age technology. The game is simply too disjointed.

I really wanted to use rifle with Ranger but rangers don't get rifles. Rifle with thief is a horrid disappointment as the damage could not be worse, there is no CC, there is no mobility, no AoE, no nothing. Whatever the devs were trying to do they clearly failed at doing. A good start to fixing Dead Eye involves getting rid of the very poorly designed Malice mechanic completely and never trying to use such a poorly thought out mechanic ever again.

For me, it is no. I have tried to use one, several times, forcing me to keep the toon using it, but I could never manage to get fun at it and gave up every times, deleting the char. I simply do not achieve to find any pleasure at using a rifle, because it is mostly single target, skills with not much effects/damages, long recharge times and long activation times for the only ones a bit more interesting. Every times I use a rifle, I get very rapidly 1) Frustrated that not more is coming from it and 2) Very rapidly bored because nothing seems to happen.

I hate the rifle on Warrior and Engi - Engi because of shotgun aesthetics, and Warrior because... well. It's just so gosh darn hard to kill anything with it in PvE. Deadeye is kind of the rifle I hoped for, but this games mechanics don't allow us to see Deadeye Rifle used to its fullest potential, given the kite-to-survive meta and the general (un)usefulness given to player ranged weapons as a whole.

On the whole, I don't really see Deadeyes or Warriors using a rifle unless they REALLY like rifles to the point where cosmetics vastly overweigh efficiancy.

Even if ranger gets rifle it would still be worse than the longbow anyway.

Love the rifles. They're not the most powerful thing around, but they look cool and have their uses. I've had some great time with the warrior rifle in particular, before the various nerfs. The hilarious days of Killshot builds before the various nerfs, the synergy with Leg Specialist, and, still to this day, the knockback on skill 5 which got me soooo many surprise quick kills in wvw. Of course these days it feels like half the skills in game block, convert or reflect projectiles so the glory days are gone, but it's still a useful toy.
