Hiya, I just started playing again, and have had some latency issues that I'm unsure how to address. My FPS seems fine, and my ping is okay aside from some spikes which I believe are the main issue (<100 when I'm looking, around 60 to 80, usually shows an Average of ~150 or so). This issue is noticeably worse in Dungeons/Fractals, and a few times I've been in PvP since returning to the game (though it just may be more obvious to me due to time-sensitive dodges, actions, etc.).
Things will often be fine, and then for a few moments every ten seconds or go, abilities will just stop. I can move, and usually anything I tried to press during the second (or more) delay will attempt to go off, and the game will jump back to the correct current state. I don't seem to have these issues in other, more lag-sensitive games (FPS & fighting games, Siege and For Honor lately).
I've also run the GW2 Diagnostic, which I'll dump below. Nothing seems to out of the ordinary, except for one server with high packet loss (which seems to be constant through a 3 diagnosis runs). Let me know if there's any other data or information I can help provide. Any suggestions super welcome, thank you!!

  • Since it's a Spectrum (Time Warner/Roadrunner) address, you may be able to speak to your ISP. Or, since it's after running through the backbone, send the information to the Tech CS Team and see if they can assist you.

    Good luck.

  • Thank you very much for your response! I suspected as much, but it's nice to have some form of confirmation. I'm reaching out to both now, I suspect the GW2 support team might actually get back to me first. Thanks again!

  • Two weeks ago I started to have problems with fps, something I never had, I always played with a rate of 50 to 45 fps in the graphics for performance because my computer is not very strong, the interesting thing is that the problem is only with the gw2, I tested with POE, The Witcher 3 even the PUBG ran normally. I updated the video card driver but the problem continued, so I reinstalled the whole game, same thing. I do not know what to do now.

    Specs - AMD FX-8320E
    AMD Radeon R7 360 2GB
    12GB RAM

BTW HAPPY BIRTHDAY - I've played since the first beta and this is a great game.

  • Couldnt play for 3 days spended all the money I saved for the sale on BDO.
I dont even wanna spend a cent on a game that cant even keep their servers running normally.

  • Same here.. I can't really do anything due to the constant 2-4k ping ever since the new patch. SEA too.

Also getting high ping since the last patch. Goes up around other players, stabilises when alone. Had the problem for months, August was a brief window of respite, but the new patch screwed it again. Aus.

Only your game. Might want to fix it :)

edit: this seems to primarily happen in pvp, even during off hours! below some logged troublesome ip addresses (playing from south america!)

Never said I'm the best, but I believe I'm better than you.

You can use a program like Pingplotter to find out where the connectivity issues lay.

    Good luck.

Oohh. Question though, what host server address(gw2 side) do you use when using pingplotter?

  • Whichever IP address of the map you experience lag in. You can find the IP address by typing /IP in chat.

    another one, skyhammer. very laggy.

starting to notice a pattern with these...

Never said I'm the best, but I believe I'm better than you.

  • Then, those are the IP addresses to check with Pingplotter.

  • Still unplayable :'( 1000+ ping every time i play

  • What sort of update must have mucked up the connection. It was perfectly fine up till July onwards. Doubt this will ever be looked into, which is why it's still ongoing. Malaysia

  • What's up guys.

I went back to playing after a while. Well, when I played about 4 years ago, in an i5 notebook, gtx 355m, 4gb ram, everything was running in the LOW-MID. The game ran smoothly, no gagging on the maps, all good, logically in the big Zergs in WVW and big events was that slideshow ...

After a while, I buy a new Desktop with the following settings:
    i5 7400
    8gb RAM
    RX 580 4gb
Even with this descending UPGRADE the game has a horrible frame drops! I can only play bursting at 50-60 FPS ( stopped, on an empty map) When I go on POF maps there the problems are worse. In the initial city (can not remember the name) it's slide rain ... it's BAD!

I looked at the official forum and saw that there were a lot of people complaining about the lack of optimization of the new maps. People with a 1080Ti with frame drops. BIZARRE! It's looking like PUBG before the official release.

I was playing with everything in High, but I've already dowgrade some stuff for Low and Medium settings. This is sad! Is the game so heavy?

My question is. How are you guys dealing with this? Is there any graph configuration tips to improve perfomance? Or is it content with lack of optimization and live with the "slides show" ?! Does anyone have similar setup and runs the game smooth? Solutions?

Character Model Limit or Quality causes severe fps drops in PoF maps for some PCs. Reflections may or may not cause problems too. I also suggest ensuring V-Sync is turned off, as it causes fps to randomly lock itself to 15 or 30.

For me, V-Sync and Character Model were what killed my fps, everything else got to stay max [shadows off] with a 60 fps limit to avoid heating up my gpu due to the game generating a lot of heat when ever I hit 120fps.

  • So I've been playing for a while, and suddenly today I have huge lag spikes (slideshow level) whenever I turn (move the mouse). If I stay facing a single direction, im mostly fine, but while playing a mirage mesmer, you sorta gotta be mobile.

I'm currently in England, playing on Borlis Pass (thinking of moving to a euro server, but that can't be the cause of this issue because i've been okay so far and been doing this for months now). I usually run about 60-80 fps in the zone im in (Harathi), but suddenly turning makes me drop down to 10-20 fps. I tried running the repair on it, but it keeps crashing, so looking for alternative approaches to fixing it. Was there an update recently that's causing this? Or something else?

  • Blocki.4931Blocki.4931 Member ✭✭✭✭

It probably won't help anybody here, but I found another cause of lag recently and that is the Windows 10 Feature of having multiple desktops. Windows + Tab, check the top left corner if you only have 1 window showing up there. I must have accidentally created another one at some point and it caused my severe FPS issues until a couple weeks ago where I discovered it.

    Logging out forever.

I do not understand what happened to gw2? My computer became much stronger (i7-7700, 1050ti, ssd, 8gb), but lags appeared. FPS drops to 7-9 frames per second, and then increases again. I reinstalled the driver, set the settings to a minimum, but the FPS drops from 60 to 7, and then grows again. What happened to the optimization? Help!
The game began to hang with alt + tab, only a full restart helps
My region - Russia, bursts start immediately after client installation (I returned to the game after 3 years break)

Is it just me or more people are having high ping issues this week and DC'ing from WvW?

  • I am having issues with really high ping/bad lag. It does seem to occur in any mode but I am particularly noticing it in the PvE maps and when attempting the Beetle Races. It seems to be spiking on these maps (up to 3-4k) but overall doesn't seem like my "normal" ping.

  • I'm having these same issues. It's at random intervals and sometimes fixes itself and then comes back again. I never had this before and only seems to be happening in GW2

  • Same for me...

  • Ping is over 200 since last update when normally around 85.

Ran latency tests to various servers and confirmed it is 100% not the fault of my internet connection. One of the node hops in Anets network is likely faulting.

  • Same here, ping sometimes goes over 4000, heard people complaning about ping in the map chat, and now i ran into it by myself =\

Same thing for me, logged in today and went to dragon's stand for the daily, but get over 3000 ping, even if I switch to another map afterwards.

Edit: at some point I also got disconnected from the server randomly

Been getting 30-40ms higher ping in WvW. It's really noticeable.

    I'm normally at ~95-100. Currently averaging 135

  • Im having hard ping issue too. But on mostly all maps, included PvP maps.
Im having from 400 to 900 ping when i used to have 150/200 ar max.
Its the only game i having ping(i mean, i double and triple checked its not my conection)
    Any idea what could be?

I dont want to sound like a bad person but i feel a bit of relief someone is also having same issue

  • I am not currently playing GW2 a lot, but have massive issues at the moment when connecting to NA servers from EU to play MS2. So I checked my GW2 accounts (EU and NA) and I'm seeing pretty much the same picture. Servers for both games are running on AmazonAWS and it seems that connections from EU to servers in NA suffer from major latency issues at the moment. Around +200ms higher ping than usual plus lag spikes of more than 3000 ms every now and then.

  • folk.8190folk.8190 Member ✭✭

i cant play, in wvwvw ping over 400. in fractals around 250-300 openworld 100-400. I'm normally at 60-75

  • Since latest season episode came out this game is unplayable! Freezes, black screen, ping, now even in Raids, every 2-3 minutes! Maybe Gw2 needs better PC, but 6 months ago I played pretty good, had no problems, even in WvW.
Anet kitten up something very very badly! I just watch the Raid lfg and 60% fewer ppl on it, that means lots of people can't play this game anymore, or won't play it it's so kitten up atm!

  • I've been playing almost every day for the past 2 months. From Australia so ping is usually at 280ms on NA servers. Its been at 350ms for about the past 2 weeks. In WvW it's become impossible to play when big fights are happening because the ping will go to 3-5k just getting close to the fight. In the last two or three days, however, I can't even play anymore. I can log into the game, select character and load any map. Once in it kills the game within 10 seconds. (TC Server, not sure if it matters)

Getting the WvW itch real bad...
    I'm having withdrawals

  • folk.8190folk.8190 Member ✭✭

and again. today ping is "awesome" 400-800

  • Tashigi.3159Tashigi.3159 Member ✭✭✭

It's been a rollercoaster for me as well. Granted, my connection is pretty darn good compared to most and I am relatively close to the servers. My normal ping for over 4+ years of playing this game is between 40-60. Over this last week, it's beeen anywhere from 80-170, with sudden spikes to 400-500.

  • Yeah, I also have a good connection and since update that the game is pratically unplayable for me. It's really THAT bad, other than the daily logins chests I would have no reason to log in at all since I can't do anything anywhere :/
