They probably took the screenshot with a low-end PC. It certainly looks like PS2 graphics :)

I don't see the issue with the image.It looks decent to me for the the distance and chances are not showing on the mast settings anyway.

All I see is "Oooh, nice ship and misty area." My 1st thought isn't "Ew. Graphics." because it doesn't stand out that much to me.

Does not tease me in any way. All I see when I combine the picture with GW2 are a lot of issues with jumping out of the water on a plank.

Sigh..."bad textures"... its all about the mood... GW2 is the most beautiful mmo on the market.

It's probably part of a cutscene, in the trailer we see crystal dragons attacking ships. Also, the blue fog limits the graphics fidelity, I'm sure once we go there it will look much better. Notice how the water is blue and doesn't reflect anything while in the actual game water has full reflections.

The problem in that picture is not quite the texture, but more the way the fog is being realized.Due to low processing power but the trend of (true) 3D graphics, consoles pushed to the maximum in the mid to late 90s and they all handled it differently:

TUROK 2 for the N64 (which has a ridiculously low texture memory/VRAM) had a dense fog going on, you could see like 10 meters.MEDAL OF HONOR (+ UNDERGROUND) on the PS: Just had black, blue or white fade outs at the end of vision (20 meters).TOMB RAIDER on the PS: Just rendered the landscape with a black fade out, even in buildings, just sprites being drawn a bit further.

In the screenshot, it looks all like it is from 20 years ago: Instead of actual fog, they put a single-colour fadeout in front of the scenery, making the water, "fog" and sky the same blunt colour. The game often uses those colour filters to put emphasis on a certain mood (e.g. during a sandstorm, suddenly the screen turns yellow, including healthbars, so it's just a cheap filter). Then, the game used to handle older cutscenes weirdly, with massive pop-ups and in general low-fi.

But also, this screenshot has been taken with very low graphic settings, you can see anti alias is turned off (very right bottom corner), so using a picture put on lowest settings to make fun of the quality is kind of BS, and surely even subsampled (it is NOT 1080p rendered, just saved as as 1920x1080 JPEG with mediocre encoding quality). So, this is a fail-safe thread: If trolling, it was just a joke.

I just see some spots of fire, and a lot of mist. What's the issue?
