If you had infinite gold, what would you do with it?

I would buy things on the: "I would like this..." wishlist. After that, I'd help out my guild and get things for friends. Then, well then I'd probably randomly give gold to the new people and the veterans, too, especially if they don't have a lot of time to play or they're having financial troubles at the time. For myself, I'd buy cute minis, (keep rolling for that mini-Trahearne (Commander, please stop stepping on me. :( ) and then beg for a mini- Canach. (Also, I'd find someone that wants to marry that adorable Laranthir, he deserves happiness, too, darn it!) Aside from that, I'd just play it by ear.

actually lemme retry: instead of just buying a legendary, i'd buy as many queen bees as possible and become a walking ball of bees

  • Zacchary.6183Zacchary.6183 Member ✭✭✭

I would buy every legendary and precursor on the TP and then delete the character.

    Infinite gold ?

Reset the economy by being the only guy capable of setting the ceiling for items. Convert as much gold to gems as needed to make whatever the max character slots are and make them all banking mules.

I'd probably buy all of the account upgrades and then I don't have a plan for after that.

    Eyyyy I unlocked signatures

What would you do with it?

I’d buy the infinite contracts I would like then ask them politely to remove it all. All the gold in the game will never make you happy, it’s the playing that’s the enjoyable part.

Though I’d be mighty tempted to see just how high an agony resistance I could make and see if it broke the game.

  • I would make several more legendaries, ascended gear for all my alts, gifts for guildies, donations to my guild, tons of skins and account upgrades from the gem store, and never have to desperately sell my mats off again! :D

I'd buy a few minor things, and then try to master Scribe before the gold runs out.

Edit: Actually, I'd buy a house. Log Horizon style.

Well since my gold want would be fulfilled, I would then stress about fulfilling my other-currencies want.
And assuming that ANet's generosity doesn't go public, I would also not tell anyone that I have infinite gold and keep all of my wealth to myself so as to avoid wrecking havoc ~.^
... too bad no one would love my plain old-fashioned leather Charr wardrobes that much...

  • I'd ectogamble to make more infinite

It isn't that expensive anymore that infinite gold would run out while working on it. ^_^

@topic: To be honest, I would have no idea what to do if I had infinite gold. I always liked working hard whenever I wanted some shiny stuff or new equipment for a character/build. I would most likely buy some gifts for a good friend of mine and then ask them to "bless" someone else or my friend with infinite gold.

Probably the same thing I do now, honestly. Stress over what to spend it on to the point of not spending it, or spending it grudgingly as little as possible. Cause you never know when 'unlimited' could get changed to 'limited.'

Or just stressing over where to start spending it. Again, resulting in the same outcome.

Getting anything done that requires me to spend gold is such a struggle...

Don't believe anything you've heard. None of it is remotely close to my actual insanity.

    All the things.

Buy some really expensive dyes I always wanted but could never justify the price they are going for.
Get my Bank and Inventory for all my Characters maxed.
Buy some more character slots and gear all existing and new characters with all meta or close to builds and have fun checking all of them out, giving me better understanding to playing with those classes as well as a great variety to what I can play.
Buy all the cool skins I ever wanted and go on all the legendary journeys I'm interested it, but could never justify spending that kind of gold on.

Honestly as the kind of player (and person) who always stockpiles stuff so "I can have fun in the future", instead of just buying cool stuff and having fun now, with the risk of regretting investments or missing out on something new which I then can't afford, having endless gold would actually improve the game massively for me, as it would just allow me to go for the content I always wanted to get, but wouldn't because of the sinks involved.

I'm not the type of person who always needs a carrot, quite the opposite. I can start to have fun when I know I can get all the things, just in case something better comes around.

1- Begin exchanging super expensive stuff for real life goodwill tasks. Like giving someone a bunch of legendaries if they pay a visit with cake to the children's hospital, or things like that.
2- Organize creative activities within the game, like dancing flash mobs in Rata Sum and 50+ people RP activities in Lion's Arch. Collaborators and best players would receive plentiful incentive.
3- Obtain and max 100 guild halls and pay people in game to create the most wild and amazing jumping puzzles inside them. I would pay prizes for the construction and for the faster runs of every one of them.
3b- I would add 1 gold to every JP chest in the game for every minute it takes to be completed on average. I would give legendaries to a development team to create an app that can verify if a player completed said JP without aid.

Quit the game. Acquiring resources to fund the rest of the game is a big part of the game itself, remove that and you remove a major challenge which then reduces goals for other aspects of the game. It would be time to move onto something more challenging.

I would rather have Anet give me 5 Gems per login (in addition to all the other automatic login gifts) this would keep me honest, gaming, but still have a chance to gain something "real" to look forward to down the road.

You can't do much with 5 Gems, but after a month that's 150 Gems and after a year it's 1825.

  • Rauderi.8706Rauderi.8706 Member ✭✭✭✭

    That'd be a long list!

Make all the legendaries, including buying off raid runs. Stock all my characters in full Ascended.
Max out all my bag slots and other gem store goodies. Max out character slots and use makeover kits on all of them.
Buy so many keys. So many.
Use the infinite gold to buy up huge chunks of materials and just delete them. Raise the sale value of flailing vendor trash.
Then, conversely, buy up anything that has high prices and sell them back on the market at lower prices. For really, really expensive stuff, buy it all then hold community events for giveaways.
Randomly donate 500g chunks to characters with cool names. :)
I'd ponder buying up all the gems to see how much real-money folks can get for buying them and trading them in for gold.
Drop some 500g gifts to friends and guildies (and artists I commission :P)

    Many alts! Handle it!

I would do nothing, even if it's real! Too much gold destroy the value, having infinite gold after all this time of farming for only ascended armor and suits on tp... infinite gold will be a great joke for me. The game would not have a sense anymore: no need to farm a legendary... But One thing can't be bought with gold: Achievment Points, a great challenge.

There are a handful of achievement points that can literally be bought with gold

While there is a certain appeal to such a thing, I think that would ruin the game for me. Now if it was just a huge amount and not infinite, that could be okay. I'm not one to turn down shinies, after all. :)

Upgrade my storage and bank. Buy all the dyes I'm missing. If I can get gems with them, character slots and skins when I wanted them. All my characters would have infinite gathering tools, all the nodes for harvesting. Basically I'd just set myself up comfortable and keep playing, because I love making alts and will thus still have something to level. I'd spoil my friend who can't yet buy things themselves.

Buy all the raid wings and buy my way to legendary armour because why not. Gift a few friends with home nodes and endless contracts. Randomly pass out precursors and legendaries to players (because there's a gold limit on monetary transfers).

  • I know it's not an option from your post text, but the first thing that came to mind was: Give gold to everyone in the game, so they stopped farming all the time (which none seem to really enjoy) and started playing the game for fun again.

As much of my time is spent on 'upkeep' with tasks I perform to acquire gold, it would allow me to get out and enjoy all of my time spent in the game instead of only some of my time.

Just as it would in life:

    • It would allow me to spend my time doing the things I find most enjoyable and fulfilling instead of things I do to make money.
    • It would allow me to help others so they will be able to spend their time doing the things they find most enjoyable and fulfilling instead of things they do to make money. (I know the most enjoyable and fulfilling activity for some is the making of money, this would be for a different discussion)

    Short-short version:

    • I'd be more happy and would help others to be able to be more happy.

WOW - Done with forums for good now! - Someone creates a thread about Pharus's light on crit effect asking if it is a bug - I get warned for being "off topic" for commenting how to use the search and pointing out threads discussing Pharus and it being an intended effect... Granted, it crossed my mind as well. I'm an imp. I admit it. :bleep_bloop:

So instead, as I was thinking about it, just having a number of markets that need a reset, and that could only be done by someone who has so much cash that he doesn't care about a loss. Some materials on the vendor floor? Buy them all and just delete them. Remove them from circulation, then set a new value. Some prices too high? Buy them all and relist them lower. Just that havoc alone would give me the huehuehue needed to keep from being a complete kitten. :P

Nothing. I'm the kind of person for which it's always hard to find a present for christmas because I only buy what I need and rarely anything out of greed. Infinite gold would do me no good, it might even push me out of the game since it would remove the value of any "reward" for my achievements in game.

I would destroy the gold to gems market, regularly buying all of the gems I could get my hands on and driving the gold to gems ratio so far in favor of selling gems and allowing only those that spend even frivolous amounts on gems the ability to leverage massive sums of gold.

Then I'd sit back and watch people realize how much they can "earn by playing the game" in a world where the system is doing what it was always designed to do at peak efficiency for Arenanet.

What would you do with it?

Unlimited gold is a little silly even for a hypothetical. It allows you to muck with the supply & demand of the trading post without any risk, it destroys any joy one might get from getting a lucky drop, and it means never having to defer gratification to work towards longer term goals.

    If anyone gets joy from lucky drops and terrible grind I feel sorry for them ;-;
I'd rather have what I want without having to get lucky or grinding my soul away.

You don't like getting a lucky drop? You prefer that all loot is trash loot and that there's nothing on the TP worth buying or selling? And you wish for all the tangible rewards in the game to require local currency? (That last ensures that things can only be obtained by grind, rather than simply by steady gaming.)

I am torn. Ive been here since beta and am still waiting for my first lucky drop. Its hard to be excited about something that you cant be sure even exists.

This. Lucky drops in GW2 are a myth. All the loot comes from the TP, Gem store, or some kind of untradable currency or achievement. What normally fills the spot of "lucky drop" in the rarity scale is exotics with the same skin you already have from an achievement, or a skin you won't use because of the weapon type. The truly rare things are so rare they may as well not exist as drops.

All the perks, none of the responsibilities.
