About In-game Server Time...

Hi all.

The time stamp on the mini-map says it's server time and I understand that means UTC time?

I googled for what is UTC time and I went through many answers but none tells me what time is UTC based on GMT. For example, my time zone is GMT +8 hrs.

So, UTC time is GMT +/- ? Thanks in advance :D

That is correct, UTC and GMT both have the same time.UTC means: Coordinated Universal TimeGMT means: Greenwich Mean Time

Only don't forget, GMT is a time-ZONE and UTC is a time-STANDARD. :)

But then if GW2 servers are in NA, why the in-game time is GMT time (or UTC) and not local time? It's rather confusing, no wonder I am always lost in time :D

Because local time changes from zone to zone. Hence setting it to a standard time.

Ex. your reset might be UTC +6 while another users might be UTC -12. If they reset at different times you'd have people playing daily content out of synch from each other.

There is an option to set the time stamp to your local time rather than server time. That might alleviate some confusion for you, so long as you aren't trying to coordinate with others using server time.

I'd also add UTC doesn't have the abomination that is daylight saving time.
