Is it possible to craft a friend ascended gear?

You cannot. Ascended gear is designed to be bound to the account (in several different ways). The closest you can get is to refine the ascended mats for them. (At times, I've done that for friends, mostly by giving them the mats I have already refined to they can skip the waiting period without paying a premium on the TP for being impatient. They pay me back later with the same items and since I'm in no hurry, it works out for me.)

So basically if I wanted to help them craft I would have to craft some items and then give it back without crafting the full armor? But aren’t some items account bound?

You can craft things like some insignia/inscriptions and the refined mats (elonian leather square, spiritwood planks, deldrimor ingots, damask bolts). Some insignia/inscriptions are bound on acquire (the mouse-over in the recipe menu will show which). Also the "parts" can be refined, e.g. damask pants lining & panel.

But... if you can craft the armor, you can also refine the pieces. There's no way to spare your friend the joys of leveling up their crafts; they have to do it themselves.

So the only way you can be of meaningful help is by reducing the time gate (without charging them the premium that it would cost to get mats quickly from the TP).

You could help them out with materials, the ascended inscription/insignia is quite expensive and requires globs of dark matter, which a new player usually doesn't have. The problem comes with the Vision Crystal. You cannot trade it, and you need to have farmed the mats, and also have enough currency to get obsidian shards, or got them in WvW or PvP. You also need 20 spirit shards per crystal, so a new player might need tomes of knowledges and consume them for the shards. You also need the recipe, at least for the piece of armor (not the inscription if you get it from a friend or the TP). The recipe costs 5 Laurels that a new player might not have yet.

If you are willing to invest in your buddy, why not just provide the materials to max his crafting? With good guidance, these crafts are leveled from zero to 500 in 1h 30m or 2 hours max and it costs maybe 50 gold.

Other way would be bringing them to T4 daily fractals, carrying them all the way and hoping they get an ascended box. Or they do raids, exotic gear works fine for that.

Friend helped me craft my first ascended weapons by helping me craft certain materials I needed for it.Certain materials, inscriptions, recipes I had to get myself, but certain other things they were able to help with.

So it's yes and no.Yes they can by helping along the way. No they can't make the weapon and give it to their friend.

Pretty sure dark matter is account bound, too...And some insignias. I have an account-bound wup wup insignia sitting in my bank, never had to make the boots because I got an ascended armor chest before I collected the mats.

The ingredients are account-bound in some cases, but the result isn't. Same with Elonian Leather Squares, Deldrimor Steel Ingots etc. You can buy a Zojja's Berserker Insignia, Elonian Longcoat Padding and Panel from the trading post. Crafting these requires account-bound materials like Globs of Dark Matter. Only thing you have to craft yourself is the Vision Crystal, and you need level 500 in your craft.

Yea crafting to 500 would be easier since I could help farm it

Didn’t know that. I thought weapons and armor couldn’t be cause account bound.

Oh it's definitely not cheaper in the long run and honestly you're probably better off just giving that person 80g or so to level that crafting discipline to 500 so they can use it in the future too and so they can make the new stat insignias.

But yeah if you really want you can just send them the named collection items. The mordant collection is one example, the elonian armour collection too I think. Well you can just buy those off the tp and send them to him to unlock and bam a free ascended.

The weapons collections are very expensive to complete, but also remember that many of those also count to specialisation weapons collections too, so maybe that's interesting to you.

How strange that ascended Armor components are tradeable, but Weapon components (like Small Spiritwood Haft) are account bound... Anyone know why?

It's quite an inconsistency I first noticed when I accidentally crafted one deldrimor stell barrel too much and tried to sell it. I don't see why it's different for armor pieces.

Without max crafting u could look at running Fracs with them and in a way that would kinda be like giving them ascended.... but it can be a slow process. It just depends.

What are you talking about, several ways have been shown that don't require you to max crafting to get ascended gear. I'll add another one: Specialization collections. To get your ascended elite weapon, you only need crafting level 400 to craft oiled parts. The rest is either looted or bought with HoT currencies.

Oh yeah I forgot about that lols. Also there is the end of Hot a few different ascended weapons by doing collections thats tied into the story.

Ugh ... so tedious.

You seem to forget the point that collections that may award ascended items only award the item once. That is not a reliable method either, while it can supplement other sources of gear it is not going to change the fact that once you’ve got it, if you want/need more you’ll eventually need to craft it, or be very patient.

PvP Leagues in the final chests of Persimmon/Amaranth/Byzantium they give 1 Grandmaster Mark each, used to buy Ascended armor with other tokens in PvP. You’re limited to 3 Marks per season, but you select for which craft (which denotes what armor/weapons you can buy) to use. It’s another slower process, but viable with patience if your friend definitely doesn’t want to craft. This option should be in the WvW Skirmish track but we all know how Anet looks over WvW like Cersei does Tyrion.

To my understanding to craft from scratch, you need to be at 500 for ascended. And that collections is more of a hunt then crafting. The hunt in hot collections to my understanding doesn’t involve crafting. I could be wrong though. But 500 is a need if your crafting ascended

It involved Oiled Orichalcum Parts, they can be bought on the TP though. The HoT elite weapons were heavily gated behind masteries and Map Currencies too.PoF Elite Weapon collections require you to craft Mordent
insert weapon here
, which are account bound, and the specific craft you need for whatever weapon you want to 400.
