  • Since I have 11 asura out of my 16 characters, I think it's safe to say my favorite race is asura. Charr is a very close second.

    Asura characters: Zerina | Myndee | Bekka | Akee | Feyyt | Nuumy | Tylee | Rissa | Jaxxi | Sixx | Claara | Conii | Jymm | Synn | Zeena

Your skin will wrinkle and your youth will fade but your soul is endless

  • i love Charrs. my first character was a female warrior charr. But there is one big problem. Clipping.
so now my main is female human.

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster

Also, the first option is "Asua"...

Excelsior, my name is Zedexx; Asuran Deadeye and assassin.
The Hunter / 2x Darksteel Pistols / 2x Whisper's Secret Daggers and my Springer. That's all I need and trust.

  • For me, I prefer Sylvari. I'm also partial to Charr, but all my mains are Sylvari.

  • Sylvari and Asura =)

  • Four of my eight characters are Charr and is also my main.

  • Definitely the norn here. It fulfills both my wants in a toon: the norn men make me feel big and boisterous, and the norn women are bootylicious.

I love playing classics, like huamns, but also I LOVE unique creatures too. I voted all, but my main is human

HARRY! DIDYA PUT YER NAME IN DA GOBLET OF FIYAH?!

  • Human. I'm boring.

  • I enjoy charr. With Sylvari a close second. I like the charr run animation especially. I like sylvari because I feel it's a pretty unique race in the realm of fantasy.

I picked sylvari but the charr are such a close second it's almost equal, and the asura are very close behind.

The charr are a big part of the reason I got into Guild Wars. My younger brother was playing it one day when I was back at my parents house, doing what I think was the Fort Ranik mission and the charr caught my attention because they didn't look like any fantasy/sci-fi race I'd seen before, and the fact that they were using magic and weapons and tactics implied there was more to them than just being generic monsters. That, combined with finding out it was an MMO without a subscription and a very brief (not entirely accurate) summary of the skill system convinced me to buy it. (Then of course my brother quit a few months later.)

I'm always on the look out for races and cultures I've not encountered before in fantasy. Admittedly I won't avoid a game/book/movie because it's got elves and dwarves in it, but I'm much more interested if it's something original.

I prefer playing sylvari because I like the variety of appearances (particularly skin and hair colours) available and because I find it easier to invent sylvari characters, but I like the others too.

(I don't mind humans or norn either, I just don't find them as interesting although they still have their unique aspects, particularly humans not being the dominant race in Tyria...any more.)

  • Sylvari first because they have so many different and unusual colors, faces and hairstyles. Then Charr second, because it's one of the best beast races I've ever seen.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet might give it to you.

I really liked playing Female Asura as my main but eventually I swapped to Human only because I found it impossible to play Fashion Wars with nothing but pajamas and other weird outfits that all look alike. I wanted more girly options and there weren't enough so yeah I swapped to Human. I don't think Human females have nearly as much character and are kinda bland but gosh do they have awesome options for fashion wars! AND I can actually SEE the outfits without using a microscope!

My favorites are Charr and Sylvari.

  • What is an Asua?

Humans are my favourite, followed by Asura, then Sylvari. Norn is second last and Charr is dead last. I have 49 characters and at least one profession of each race.

  • Wow... it's really refreshing to see Charr have become more popular! I remember when they were one of the least played races in the game, at least according to some early polls.

    Charr...

Running animations are good and my favourite charr looks like Crash Bandicoot.

Not to brag, but I put together a puzzle in 4 days and the box said 2-4 years.

I like all the races, I only wish one would still feel when one is playing a non-human race. I hope there will be different dialogue options and different PC behavior in PoF depending on your character's race. <3

Very little was done to really establish the Norn in GW2 as anything other than tall humans.

I like the concept of the Sylvari, but the visual implementation of males of the race not so much.

    Char are the enemy.

    Asura are rodents.

    Leaves me with humans.

    Cabbage master race!

Love the sheer range of customisation. No other race allows you to so completely change the style and type of character you have - from a blacked gnarled tree to a mushroom headed fungus to a beautiful and bright rose of a character.

The voice actors for both male and female also did amazing jobs. The voices really suit the race, and I never get tired or annoyed by the character quotes like I do with some other races (I CAN OUTRUN A CENTAUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

    Asura, definitely.
My opinion of them went from 'these look ridiculous, gonna roll one for laughs and then delete' to 'these animations are amazing, this is my main now'.

What's an "Asua"? Sounds a bit like "aua" ;) .

That said, Asura all the way. About half of my 28 characters are asura, and I've still got a few asura characters in my head that I plan to create some day :D .

I mostly play WvW/PvP and I feel like Asura are less notice able within a zerg alongside their animations being harder to tell (imo) so most of my characters are Asura for that matter.

    Other than that - CHARR!

All except the Norn, that race has been watered down so much they're normal, plussized, humans

To defeat the dragons, see the good in them.
Zhaitan reunites lost ones, primordus creates fertile land, mordremoth spreads the green, and jormag..
    ..jormag? Who's that?

I fondly remember when Norn were first introduced in EotN. Ogden wanted an army against the destroyers, but the Norn's culture doesn't know such a thing as an army. They don't even have any real leaders. In the end he got a hunting-group of 3 or 4 Norn.

I think it's kinda sad, that the Norn mentality got dumped in GW2 in favor of quicker and easier story telling. Why was Knut able to represent all Norn at the summit? Why are there so many Norn enlisted as regular soldiers in the pact? Where are the random hunting-groups traveling through dangerous areas and searching for the ultimate prey? Where is any interaction with the spirits of the wild that are supposed to be everywhere? The bear, raven, etc are supposed to be the biggest / main spirits, but supposedly there are many more local spirits to be found. What happened to the transformation that was the pride of every Norn in GW1?

No skin should be exclusive to gem-store rng boxes.
What really happened with mount skins

played a norn warrior for a long time, but switched to human guard, and i don't regret it.
I love their heroic and graceful movement, and now everytime i switch to my norn it feels soooo clumsy urgh

I also tried every other race but
    sylvari -> i couldn't find a look i'd like
asura -> too playful imo (but i do understand that a lot of people like exactly that about the asura)
charr -> kinda like them, but only on heavy armor classes. i created a charr rev (since i already have warrior and guard) but didn't really get a chance to play him yet

    Norn > Human > Asura > Sylvari > Charr

Norn since I like the whole Norse/Celtic thing going on with them. Human comes second and that comes from nostalgia with playing GW1 for so long. Asura and Sylvari are fun but not the favourites. Charr? My only issue with them is their movement. I know we're moving at the same speed as every other race but it still feels so ungodly slow to me. If it weren't for that, they would be #3.

Yeah. It's kind of like the Great Hunt was supposed to be this BIG personal achievement. Norn literally walk up a hill and kill a wurm in its pen. Like shooting a fish in a barrel. I think that is part of why I really just don't like what Anet did with them. That, and really tall toons make for jumping puzzle headaches.

    Lost in the Maguuma (TC)
For the geographically challenged, yes, Tarnished Coast is located IN the Maguuma Jungle.

  • While I like the other races thematically, I can't help but feel that most of the weapons and armour were initially designed with a human frame in mind. It always bugs me that most of the clothing doesn't have a proper hole for the Charr tails or just looks weird on a Norn or Asura. As a result I tend to just lean towards human, it's also what I played in GW1 (because there was no choice) so it's kinda stuck. The only draw to other races for me is the sheer size of Charr and Norn for showing off your shiny gear.

Exploring Tyria since before the fall of Ascalon.

  • I personally, enjoy the Sylvari.
They are different but close enough to elves on some physical traits.
They are very curious and eager to learn, yet mischievous in some ways.
With HoT, there is a lot of interesting bits and pieces that made me enjoy them more, but for spoiler sake... I won't say :)
As a Guild Wars 1 player, it's what sold me to buy GW2. The cut scene with the tree sprouting and the mystery and intrigue of it.

Sadly, as a GW1 player... I can never play a Charr... sorry can't forgive that race <3

The Norn, I loved them in GW1 and being honest, was the race I was planning to play when I heard about GW2; however, a lot of their uniqueness was sort of nerfed in my opinion between GW1 and GW2. Yes, you can transform into the select few of the animals; however, they are racial and are not really strong or useful... to me... that was just a turn off for the race. I remember getting the bear blessing and destroying stuff in GW1, or the wolf blessing and doing awesome stuff in the tundra. I understand why the racials are basically useless, to make it fair and what not... but it turned Norn off for me. "Hey we believe in these spirits and honor them, but they are totally useless and we never turn into the animals we honor anymore, cause you know that was a major thing for us in GW1"

Asuras, I've always hated... sorry. Little rat kittens and their egotistical kitten kitten kitten blahhh

Humans, part of the personal story just turned me off. Unknown parents, dead sister, circus
What If i just want to be somewhat average? Has parents, no sister or doesn't want her dead, and despises the circus ._. ...
With all the races, yes you have something you're forced to chose; however, with human... you're forced to chose to be gloomy.
"Which version of gloomy or edgy do you wish to be?" "no parents? dead sister? or not being a circus freak? "
