Are you going to purchase the 3rd expansion?

As i mostly pvp and wvw and a small amount of time in ove i will not buy any more expansions. They have said that pvp content is not tied to expansions so no reason to buy it (except op especs)

  • No way...
Given the transition to vertical mazes and meta-events, I can only imagine what garbage will be introduced next. Vertical meta-events? Meta-mazes?
How did a good game sink to these depths? Zerg or die? Cross-reference everything you do and everywhere you go to the wiki? This is supposed to be fun? To whom? Masochists and sadists?

    i'd defenitly buy it.

while HoT and PoF both had a flaw (aka the spam of knockdowns/knock backs) they both added their moneys worth of content easily.

and the story is great, specially loved PoF how they twisted the story to have new elements to it (the judge part)

while i do VERY MUCH wish we would have more story like the Asura lv 1-30 or the char lv 1-30 (and revisit my krew or warband). i've accepted that the most i can hope for there is the opportunity to replay those someday.

and of coarse theres alot Anet could rework to make appealing again (dungeons).

but all in all, GW2 is the game i keep coming back to (and i've tried ALOT of games), with the best consumer friendly pricing and practices. so yeah. i'd buy it

    Yes yes yes yes yes

Even if I don’t play as often as I used to, the expacs are still a good deal for the amount of entertainment I extract.

    I’m speaking specifically of PVE.

Gave up on pvp and wvw.

Maybe. It's highly likely I will (so far I've pre-purchased the Deluxe edition of the base game and the Ultimate editions of both expansions), but I couldn't say for sure until I know what's in it and what it costs. And when it comes out, it might be that it's a really bad time for me when I don't have time to play/money to spend on it, or maybe I'll have lost interest in GW2.

I don't do blind product loyalty. One of my favourite bands recently released a new album. I loved their first one, I'm friends with one of the members and talk to the others on social media and at gigs, and I was really looking forward to their 2nd one coming out. But I still listened to it on Spotify before deciding to buy it (turns out I do love it, and I can't wait for my copy to arrive, but it's important to me that I know that). Same with anything else - I wouldn't buy a new phone just because it's the same manufacturer as the one I have now, and I wouldn't buy any game or expansion just because I like previous releases from the same people. I want to know what I'm getting first, instead of assuming it will be just like what I've got before.

I'll buy it, and like PoF, probably only play it for a month. Then move on to other games. PvE has very limited value to me. GW2's is better than most but it's still just PvE and just not that interesting.

If they fixed WvW, I would play GW2 all the time.

  • Zeefa.3915Zeefa.3915 Member ✭✭✭

Well yes. Because I love this game.... sure it has faults, but I still enjoy it. I really did enjoy both expansions. My main motivation to play is story, so do not want to miss any part of it.
I am a veteran from GW1 too, but I don't compare the 2 games too much... if I do it is mostly just the lore... which really is more of the same, with additions.
I don't really have super high expectations of some concept of perfect, I just expect a decent number of enjoyable hours, at a not too outrageous price.

  • Mea.5491Mea.5491 Member ✭✭✭✭

Yes, instabuy because GW2 is my main MMO. Sometimes I try new/other MMOs but they can't keep me interested for more than a few days. Meanwhile, I've been playing GW2 since beta so that means a lot to me.

I have honestly no idea at this point. There are just way too many factors involved. Also, there's no way i'll be deciding completely blind, without knowing anything about the expansion.

So, the answer is a definite maybe.

I totally respect this answer, for me, however, it's been a evolution,. Pre-HoT, I loved the game, bought the largest pre-order expansion pack they had because I had total faith in the company, in fact, I bought it for a friend as well, because I knew it was going to be a GREAT!

Well.. After HoT I took a break...

When PoF came out, I asked around, and flip flopped on the purchase, I got a lot of positive comments from people who played like me, and I even did the beta-test thing, to check it out myself, but, others made me question if it was going to be worth the money, in case they had maps like HoT. So I held off, and finally bought the smallest pack they had.

    Next expansion... we shall see.

And sadly... I don't think I was alone in that little falling out with trust in Anet.

Most likely, yes. I mean it would have to be pretty terrible looking and they would have had to have screwed up incredibly badly on everything from now to then.

I mean I actually bought one of their overpriced mounts after saying that would never happen, so yeah, expansion is probably a good bet.

I played this game for over 10k hours. They must do something horrible before they cant sell me the expansion.

As I say that, I feel like that shouldnt mean they are void of criticism. I hope they try to outdo the previous expansion.

There are things I want to see, that they are never going to add. PoF meant little for me and I just did not care, I had assumed it would of been better than it was but all I Felt the entire time was a sense of "I dont care" about the entire thing. I did the stuff I Wanted to do and did not go back, I doubt they could give me enough incentive to continue my journey... but then the only reason I got PoF was to kill balthazar.

Where is the "Wait and see"-option in the poll?

There's literally no information to base my choice on whatsoever at the current time.

Please Anet give us a hide Chest Armour-option. Tattoo-clad Norns everywhere beg of you.

  • Definitely missing at least a "Maybe" option, or even several in-between
Aside from "Yes" and "No", the pol could use options like
"Unlikely, but if the right features are added",
    "Likely, but not sure" and
    "Depends on where it's located".

Personally - as long as I'm still playing (likely) and it doesn't seem totally outside my comfort zone difficulty-wise, I can't really see myself not buying it. I might very well not go all in as I did with PoF, if the features seems lackluster or a bad fit for me.

Just for fun, here’s the things Anet need to do so that everyone who has said they would buy the expansion if Anet does/does not do one or more things would be willing to buy it. I’ve grouped them by the type of request, and obviously paraphrased rather than quoting (because that got too messy). Where one request contradicts another that’s usually (but not always) because they’re from different people.

    Must cost less than $50.

Add more than 5 new maps, but don’t split the population up any more than it is already. And strike a balance between hardcore content and accessible content and make sure the expansion is solo-friendly and the maps don’t have too many enemies. Make sure there’s plenty to keep us coming back to the expansion maps.

Make it absolutely nothing like HoT – no hard to navigate maps, or masteries or meta-events required to progress, but don’t make it ‘lacking’ like PoF or too similar to PoF in general and include plenty of meta-events like HoT.

The story must be about the Commander being a hero, not following along with other people, but should bring back more characters from previous storylines. No more saving innocents or world leaders, it should focus on us defeating enemies. But not too quickly or easily, and they need more build-up. The story must also be more mature, but not too dark or serious.

More focus on PvP/WvW (or just bring more people back to those game modes). Also make all game modes more accessible.

More elite specialisations, and they must be worth playing, but no better than anything we’re already got, including core specs. Also not too much focus on AoE damage or boons, or knock down/back. And revert the condition meta. Also fix the balance. And make game mechanics more complex, but without gimmicks. And reduce the number of visual effects on skills. And stop adding masteries and elite specs.

    Add a new playable race.

    Better reward structure.

    Re-work crafting.

Underwater maps. But no underwater content.

Fix the lag and FPS first and include a system upgrade.

Improve existing content first, in particular make dungeons appealing again.

    Focus on listening to players.

Hmm, I am a probably yes, but significant parts of what you list would be off-putting for me.

Hey I'm not saying Anet should, or could, do any part of this. It's just what other people have asked for in this topic. (As you may have noticed they couldn't do all of it if they wanted to, because some parts contradict others - like adding more elite specs, but also scrapping elite specs and masteries.)

(My only condition, so far, is that I want to know what I'm getting and what it costs. So far we don't even know for sure there will be a 3rd expansion, we just assume there will be because they've done 2 so far and haven't said otherwise.)

I am absolutely with you on this one. Regarding underwater content Anet have laid a pretty good foundation, but there are enough flaws in it that would require quite a bit of work to make it as entertaining as it could be. An expansion would certainly justify that sort of effort going into this aspect of the game, and some skills and profession mechanics that we already have and are not all that good in underwater combat (or do not even have an underwater version for inexplicable reasons) would certainly get a more thorough examination than in a scenario where you can avoid underwater situations almost everywhere.

I will most likely buy due to momentum. I haven't been all that happy with the story's choppy character writing. Or with the encounter designs and their CC/KD fetish.
My motivation seems to be winding down, even with a new expansion, because almost all of my goals still involve waiting for some once/2hr meta. Maybe it's just Istan that's not all that enjoyable, kinda middling as far as expansions zones are concerned. The new weapon collections are meh, and they still haven't figured out how to do achievements properly for story instances.

And then I'm not sure what kind of masteries they can even include. We have all the "joy of movement" we really need (and it's glorious~). While this set of elite specs is more interesting than most of HoT's, adding yet another set is just going to make some people whine all the more anyway.

    Many alts! Handle it!

  • If they got me hooked by that time (I take long breaks from playing in general) than absolutely. Maybe 6 months later than the expansion release or whenever but that doesn't matter.

  • Love the game since pre-start and will always buy any expansion that comes out for it.

Overall, my decision won't be made until details about any expansion have come out and if said details appeal to me; however, I do know that I've enjoyed the first two expacs for the most part. So, my vote is "probably yes".

Oh look. I have a signature now.

Yes, because GW(2), especially the Asura and Charr, are the first franchise where I really want to be at.
My brother is StarWars and Dragonball fan, my cousin likes Final Fantasy, the other guy every Zelda or Halo, and for me it's GW2.

To me a game is like a buffet. I've been to many hotels and the quality of the buffet is the most important. How good is the meal I can get? Are the ingredients fresh? Is it rich? Can I "build" my plate as I want it to be with fancy stuff of all sorts or can't I really choose and have to arrange myself with what's there?

In GW2, I created the perfect character for me and that's a mix of what aNet gives and what I can optionally choose: My Zedexx, Asura Deadeye wearing clothes and gear that totally fits him, riding on a beautiful mount, having skills that I totally love to use, characters beautifully voiced in German (also Taimi and Rytlock) in an environment that has many different directions to go story-wise and clever, mature writing, it adds up to a great experience. And when stuff's good, I am going to stay and pay.

    Excelsior.

Excelsior, my name is Zedexx; Asuran Deadeye and assassin.
The Hunter / 2x Darksteel Pistols / 2x Whisper's Secret Daggers and my Springer. That's all I need and trust.

Yes, this is the only MMO I'll play...unless ArenaNet comes out with GW3, but otherwise I won't hesitate to purchase. Nor do I care if people I know continue to play because this almost acts like a single-player game populated with other people(other than the meta events that require multiple people to complete). I enjoy the PoF map far more that HoT, heck, I even completed the story on two characters where as those same two characters did not finish HoT...just left the last mission incomplete.

Yes...no...maybe...what do you want, can't you see I'm busy saving the world...AGAIN!

  • The mounts will make the next expansion difficult to build, i reckon. They’ll need to build areas which negate the mounts otherwise we will just chew through the content too quickly. But then we are losing our hard earned mounts.

They also need to build it in a way it can be played without mounts or a glider if they are going to follow the same route that each expansion can be bought and played separately.

Not sure how they will do this except an underwater expansion or push us down into old school dungeon tunnels.

Nope, mainly because the game mode I mainly play (WvW) has lost too many people. That and it's not a good sign when the HoT expansion has more players than PoF. .

    HoT gave WvW;
An entire new map (generally regarded as a bit of a flop although I, personally, like it very much),
and Huge guild claiming and improvement systems (generally regarded as a huge success).

    PoF gave WvW;
    OP classes,
and a horrible meta (which feels as though nobody was thinking of WvW when designing the classes),
    and nothing else.

WvW was entirely ignored in terms of content this time around, and the meta suffers from decisions that didn't include well thought through design. Is it any wonder that WvW players claim to be second class citizens?

While I appreciate that some people want Anet to keep WvW in at least maintenance mode, I can understand why others have a policy of refusing to fund them at all - and that's why my answer, at the moment, is no.

Probably not. I played GW1 and was a major fanboy. GW2 while an interesting game has never felt like a sequel to GW1. The controlled economy, the legendary loot model, the lack of any fat loot (I really miss the charge from getting a Black Dye), collections = kill ten rats on steroids, RNG Mystic Forge, RNG salvage, RNG boxes inside boxes, RNG= 10,400 hours and no precursor, Just plain RNG, never ending additional currencies, the same type of items some sale able some account bound, Hearts that must be redone (that's not content it's busy work) are all reasons I'll probably not buy the next expac.

I didn't spend any cash on the game for about 2 years all the while feeling a little guilty for not supporting the game I played. So recently I bought 25 keys thinking I get a couple Tyrian Vouchers. I didn't so dumped some gold into the exchange and bought 10 more keys, still no 2nd voucher. Then I realized I wasn't having fun and hadn't in quite some time. I do the dailies like I'm punched in at work. The game is a regular source of aggravation, so no I'll probably not buy the next expac

  • Despite the fact I haven't completed either HoT or POF yet, I'm likely to buy the 3rd expansion as GW2 is the only game I'm playing on a regular basis.

  • Definately!!!! As a new player my only problem is that the day doesn't have enough hours in it to play both HoT and PoF at the same time.

Yes. I waited about a year on HoT bc I was still having fun with vanilla and just didn't see the point in getting the expansion. With PoF I preordered bc I just didn't see the point in delaying. As others have said the cost is negligible relative to how much I play and how often expansions at released, so why not just buy it straight away . . ?
