Bring tournaments back

Come on, the last time we had tournaments, there was a huge influx of players and wvw became fun. make it like the pvp seasons. Anet's reason of not bringing back the tournament is "population drops off after the tourney", is not valid at all... obviously population will drop after the tourney... then it will rise again when the new season starts...

No, for the millionth time no.

That huge influx of players included a lot of ap and shiny chasers from pve that took up too much space in WvW afking in crafting stations. That influx of players is nothing compared to the burnout, tremendous loss of players, server and guild instability and collapses that occurred after each tournament.

PvP is not the same thing, matches in PvP are not 24/7 and week long. Those matches take minutes not days. Teams are balanced and small in numbers, so coverage and domination by numbers is not an issue.

Temporary boosts in numbers is no reason to destroy the existing population.

Each tournament brings a VERY temporary spike of players, immediately followed by a permanent loss of a much larger percent of the player base from WvW. This has statistically proven to be true, and are arguments are based on "feeling" and not "facts".

By the way, can you link me the dev post or any way to officially demonstrate that Anet has made that statement?

I had a lot of fun with the three tournaments, but I can't imagine why ANet would bring them back anytime soon.

WvW FAQQ. Will there be another WvW Tournament?A:The old tournament format encouraged extensive play that resulted in a lot of burnout across the player base and a permanent drop off in WvW players. This had a negative impact on the format, and in order to keep WvW healthy, we currently do not have plans to bring back WvW tournaments.

The drop offs were permanent: people burnt out and never returned, not even when the next tournament started. It's even harder on the commanders and organizers than on the rest of us. And it's a ton of work for ANet to set up, too.

Among the problems ANet haven't figured out how to solve: how to have fair match ups, where the final outcome isn't predictable before the start of the tourney. There were very few exceptions, which led to some worlds tanking to get placed in a lower league, so they could dominate (which also ended up making the upper league more lopsided than it already was). Even the community can't come to a consensus about how to set things up.

Hey for like the 5th time I'll say this..

24 hour tournament starting from reset, it's the start of the weekend, when most players are playing for all zones.Rest of the week is a normal match.String this together over a period of weeks to create your season.Using only 1 day of the match, plus skirmish, will help limit "burnout" and "pptstress".Add achievements that are not hardcore, and can be earned during the week and not just on the one day so you don't make players feel forced to play to earn them.Give out some extra tickets for the wins.

Either that or start doing special weekend bonuses to help get players interested in wvw.A game like WoW use to have battleground weekends that gave 100% bonus exp for certain maps for that weekend which encouraged players to play those maps more. You know you could do something like 100% wxp bonus weekend, or 50% reward track weekend, or +3 pips bonus weekend.Spvp had their bonus to advertise when they were doing their tournaments, and wvw still got nothing like it to this day. (another marketing team fail).

yea, make it once a week like on reset days, it is a tourney day. then there will be no stress and burnouts. like a pvp automated tournament. it doesn't happen everyday for weeks. then put rewards like pvp AT for the best etc...

as some people said player burnout was inevitable due to the format and some people also said that PVE player influx crowded the WvW maps,

why don't Anet take the WvW tourney on the PVE Map, make agits like the ones in RO, make scheduled events for the guilds and its allies to battle each other out in the main cities of tyria to claim each of the races territory as their own territory until the next event (weekly)

the WvW guilds are making non stop recruitment post on chat, inb4 i played this game it was the players who wanted to be in a guild, players themselves want a guild, and those players wanted to fight alongside with their guildmates, cuz for them being part of the battle that make their guild successful on capturing an agit makes them proud that they contributed, who doesn't wanna see their guild on the server announcement (the illusive yellow text message that announces the map will close for maintenance ) that their guild has captured Divinity's Reach from X guild and is defending it until the time limit?, that would make every bois and gals to join the fun and want to be one with a guild

bring back the tourney with the same format is a joke, do your job devs, do it for your company that pay your monthly bills

if Sword Art Online is about mmorpgs, then Overlord is about guilds inside mmorpgshttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt4869896/

I like this idea of reset or weekend tournaments.

Server populations with links aren't balanced enough as it is, but honestly, players were not even that evenly spread out during the previous WvW Seasons.

Veterans, neither have the time or patience to pull in those sort of hours they used to towards that competitive side of wvw, which is determined by population and coverage.Sure some incentives, introduces players to WvW, but a large number never return, unless it's for easy rewards.
