Hey fellows,

I am unable to find anything about it on the internet. My Girlfriend and I started to play Gw2 together a couple of days ago and we thorougly enjoy it.I do have the basic game (since release) but didnt play any hard (lvl 40 thief or smthg) and my girlfriend has a "free account" now.

I want to buy both of us the Addons (Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire). Is there some kind of package for both of them available somewhere?

I think I will have no problems getting them to work (just add keys to my account I think), but what about my girlfriend?Does she need the "basic" game as well?

Or is it the same if she adds both addons to her account?

Thanks in advance! (such a shame I just realized how good this game really is)

If your girlfriend buys Heart of Thorns, the base game comes with it. When you check out, there is an option on the ANet's checkout page to add Heart of Thorns with Path of Fire for twenty dollars. As far as I know, that's the closest 'package' deal you're going to get for the time being. Together, both standard deals cost 49.99 at the time of this posting.

I did find one website that sold both together for 42.99, but they claimed to be sold out. Also, I would be extremely wary of buying the game(s) outside of any reputable sources. It's come back to bite more than a few players. Safe bet is always through ArenaNet.

Hope this helped.

Thanks for your response.Do we have any "advantages" of having the addons before finishing the basic game?Or does all content of the addons require finishing the basic game?Or should we first finish that and see if we still like it and buy addons by then?Thank you!

Nothing is required as far as the base game, but gliding and the like do help with mapping. That said, you can't get those abilities until level eighty. Also, you'll be required to do some questing to get it too. Honestly? I would first only buy Heart of Thorns to get the core game since they're a package deal now. Once you complete the core game, you can then move onto Heart of Thorns. Afterwards, you can then consider Path of Fire.

That's your best bet because it also prevents you from being overwhelmed as you attain skill points, mastery points, and other abilities as you progress through all three games and/or expansions.

At least, that's my opinion.

The max level is always 80, both for Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, or the free account. That's to don't leave the free players behind. The main advantages to buy an expansion (you can use the trading post, 3 additional character slots, the mastery system) are unlocked with any of the 2 expansions. The difference between HoT and PoF are the elite specialisations (for example in your case, with a thief, if you buy HoT you can play a Daredevil, with the staff, whereas if you buy PoF you can use the rifle and play the Deadeye). Also the mounts come with PoF, the gliders with HoT. HoT will also unlock the guilds. And the new maps are also different. If you don't want to risk to feel too overwhelmed by the contents, as Arden suggested, buying HoT first is a good idea also because it came first, so you'd play the story in the correct order. PoF is useful mainly for the mounts: if you don't have them, you risk to miss some event (for example the current one, with the Awakened that appear in the low-level maps: on foot you'd arrive too late, when the event is already over). But you wouldn't understand much if you play the PoF story before HoT.

I’d honestly just buy HoT and PoF as the bundle as it is done this way to give you a discount.Just because you buy both HoT and PoF at the same time, doesn’t mean you’ve got to play both asap. The content is not going anywhere, so save some money if you plan on buying both anyway, and buy them together as the bundle.

We will make both a new character later on this day (to test some out); if I start as human and my girlfriend starts with another race, is there a way to play together on the same map? Afaik Humans start on a different map than the small ones for example. Thanks guys. Just bought HoT for both of us. :)(I started as necro, which has way to much utility stuff (snares, fears and stuff) and not so much dps - for me atleast; so ima roll a mage :P)

i ditched up a link for you. to me buy a bundle will save a bit for both of you.
https://buy.guildwars2.com/store?Action=html&Locale=en_US&SiteID=gw2&cid=104%3A5%3A%3A%3A%3AGlobal%3A40%3A%3A%3A&pbPage=heartofthorns&themeID=4785548000(for some reasons the link doesn't work. but if you copy the whole thing and paste it in a new tab, it'll lead you to the package. it's just a standard collection with both expansions. i think the price is very reasonable, considering there are a ton of contents.)

free accounts technically get access to most contents in game, except HoT, and PoF zones, their maps, and their story contents. they come with a spec for each profession. but as HoT and PoF came out, they each introduced 9 more specs. so if you're not familiar with the game mechanics and combat system yet, it'll be very confusing. new traits, new skills, new zones, harder mobs, etc. so just focus on your leveling, explore, do group events, then slowly get your way to HoT maps and PoF maps.living world seasons and their episodes are free of charge if you log in during the events. if not they cost 200 gems to buy.
