How to preview dye on armor that I do not own ?

Is there a way for me to preview dyes on armor that I do not own ? I know that I can preview armor through the crafting stations but it does not allow me to dye these items.

Search it in the TP, you can preview it before you buy it.

Or you ask someone who has it to post it into the chat.Or maybe also: you search it's chat-code in the wiki, post it into your chat and can preview it.

But I still can't dye these items when previewing.

yeah preview is limited to 4 positions. should be enough as no armor piece has more than 4, but may be a bit to much puzzle to arange it correctly.(you can preview it 4 times and then remove the wrong positions, to see it as you want it)

That's sad. But thanks I will do it that way :)

Err.... you can preview a color in the normal dye tab. I do that all the time, you can still dye your entire armor with dyes you don't own and see how it looks, you simply can't apply it. There's a search fuction built into it too so you can find the exact color you are looking for easily.

Edit:Ah nevermind, just noticed you are looking for armor you don't own, not dye.

Just to clarify it may be easier to use the wardrobe to preview items, rather than the trading post or wiki codes, as the wardrobe tab has pretty much every weapon/armor skin in the game including gem store ones and is a lot easier to navigate. If your unsure of where to find one they're in every major city, including Lions Arch, or can also be found in the pvp lobby or WvW spawns. They appear as an NPC with a bag icon over their head and are the same ones who hold your bank. Once you click on them you'll see your bank, material storage, and wardrobe on the left. Select wardrobe then browse through and easily preview any skin in the game, then just preview dyes with them off the trading post at your leisure.
