This may have been said already, apologies if I missed it, but on my mobile phone the thumbs down is very far to the right so I've found that I've inadvertently thumbed down someone's post while scrolling.

Clicking it again removed the thumb down and I fully accept that it's a user error and I'll have to be more careful, of course, but if that button could be moved to the next line then that'd be great.

  • Why is there still no "subforum" NA and EU (or even serverwise) in WvW and Looking for Guild? its rly stupid you have to look for NA and Eu in the title some even forget that then you have to hope its somewhere in the post.. imo that was already needed in the old forum I dont get how sth so obvious isnt done yet..

    Excelsior.

I really dislike the Voting feature and someone already posted why on page 4 or something.
People just upvoted a single post and in the end, a discussion is about picking the most popular opinion.
Remove the thumbs down, you got a report feature already. Just because you are disliking my opinion, and 3 others, does not mean, it's -4 and thus wrong. People who agree with me would probably skip it because it's too lowly rated.

Also, the timestamps are useless for me because they seem to switch back and forth with different timezones. 3:41 PM seem to be fine at least with server/system time though. Maybe a 24-hour setting, too?

The previous forums were nice and quick, this one here tries to be a real bulletin board but it's just a facade.
    I don't really like it.

Excelsior, my name is Zedexx; Asuran Deadeye and assassin.

  • Is there any way to perhaps add friends on the forum here? to see what people you know are posting or saying or keep track of the threads that they are commenting on? That would perhaps be nice as well.

I really like the new forums. There are only two suggestions I have.
The first is to be able to see which threads yo have posted in as you could in the old forums. The curved arrow was nice to see where you posted something.
The second is the Thumbs down button. I'm not a fan. I think it discourages honest commentary if it is a dissenting point of view. Also I see an avenue for harassment. Just my opinion, but I do see it as a negative for the new forums.

The dev tracker doesn't actually track dev comments. It tracks topics in which devs have EVER commented. It's completely not doing which it is supposed to do. For example, this reply has moved this topic to the top of the dev tracker, even though I am not a dev and there haven't been any dev comments in this topic for a while now.

  • After first shock i must admit that i like new forum now.
Cant wait for Path of Fire and ... ingame builds swither ;)

  • After using and scrolling through these forums for a good amount of time, now, I have to say that there is way too much space between each of the sub-forums on the main "index" page. If that space was lessened, it would require less scrolling.
Please note that all of my feedback so far is in regards to using Google Chrome, which I use at work. I use Firefox at home, so I will need to play around with this there at some point to see if anything changes.

  • Passing on a recurring comment heard outside the forums and in game "With all that needs addressed, and they redid the forums? WHY???" my guess is to be new and improved for the launch of POF. I question timing, but sometimes it cannot be helped I guess. I am really having a difficult time following a threads flow of conversation. I think it's mainly coloration choices. I understand the use of company colors, perhaps alternate style sheets can be added with 5 or 6 color schemes? I just see myself avoiding the new look. It was fine as it was. Sorry guys, just not liking the current look. I'm on a 22 inch screen and the vast white space is hurting my eyes (I have light sensitive eyes).

I have another issue: so, we're allowed to edit a post for 15 minutes after it's posted.

But what about threads like fan stories where we have to update the first post to show the latest updates to the story? That'll happen days later.

Also relevant for, say, guild recruitment posts where it's often necessary to change details over time.

On a related note, not sure I like threads being sent to moderation if you make an edit? Posted a thread just now, wanted to make a minor formatting change... aaaand it's gone, with no way for me to access it. This feels like I'm wasting a moderator's time just to add a little extra spacing, and it's causing me anxiety because I don't know if my thread is just gone into the ether lol

Just found something I need to change in our guild recruitment post, and...... no EDIT feature. What's up with this?

Post text is de-emphasized an awful lot on the new forum UI.... Large very red links on every post, large usernames and avatars, and perhaps a bit too much whitespace.

Also, the "Draft saved" popup could be much better placed, say, as part of the post entry UI box itself - it can obscure text entry currently.

Markdown support is pretty nice though.

  • The draft function is super nice, especially with such short disconnection delay.
One thing puzzles me though : the white space on the right. It is maybe browser or resolution dependent but if you middle click to go back up a page and slightly move to the right, there is an entire new world there with a Chrono, Braham and Taimi and then a wide white landscape...

  • After looking at the new format I came to the conclusion there is too much clutter and repetitive images.

  • can there be a way to delete past notifications? I left the notifications on, and now I have 4 pages of them sitting there after one day of following two threads. I have read the threads I got notifications for, there is no need for them to stay.

The new forums are pretty solid overall, but the Dev Tracker could use some work. It currently seems to just track threads that have Anet replies, rather than Anet posts. That means that if you click the Anet you only end up at the first Anet post and are left to sift through the thread for any other Anet posts yourself. Additionally, it seems to be sorting based on most recently updated by anyone not just Anet. (edit: wasn't sure about the sorting, but just confirmed. As soon I posted this the thread jumped to the top of the dev tracker.) This makes it very difficult to differentiate between new Anet posts and threads that once had an Anet post and are just being added to by other users (like this one).

As someone who does not have time to browser the forums much but likes to keep loose track of what Anet team members are responding to/announcing/etc., the old RSS feed style tracker was great. I know pretty much any software upgrade is going to break somebodies "workflow" regardless of how hard you try, but I think the dev tracker would be significantly more useful in general if it at least sorted by Anet post chronology and could link to a specific post.

Just found this theme for Stylish browser addon. It improves the layout quite a lot.
Topic list still stays very cluttery looking, but at least it takes away bit of the empty space, letting you see more topics without scrolling.

  • I'd like to suggest a way to turn off avatar icons for public poll results. To me, it's an eyesore and adds so much bloat to scroll past. I'm not even sure why we need a public and private option on these things. Imagine what that would look like if it had hundreds of votes.

    Example: https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/917/whats-your-least-favorite-living-world-season-3-map#latest

Please unify account on the different language forums. If I go to the french forum, I have to sign in again, chose an avatar and start "leveling" again.

  • Plz make it possibe to see if u ahve already "thumed up" a post (so that u dont remove the thumb u've already given by thumbing it again).

  • Is there any way now to jump to the next ArenaNet post? Previously there were arrows next to the ANet team member name to jump to the next one, but that doesn't seem to exist anymore?

Is it possible to implement this? It's highly helpful for forums and threads like the ones on the Blizzard WoW forums (yea yea, but they are good) which just takes you to the next staff post.

  • Overall, too much blank space. And when it's bright white, it's blinding. Literally hurts my eyes. Would be nice if we could pick from among several color scheme. Thank you.

  • Ojimaru.8970Ojimaru.8970 Member ✭✭✭✭

Just checked out the results in a poll on the new forum and was assaulted by this monstrosity. The sheer visual overload of all the participants' avatars make the poll result nigh unreadable, on top of the blinding white background. I noticed each reply already shows what the poster voted for, so I think that is plenty information enough. Please get rid of the avatars in the overall poll results.

  • How about inclusion of an RP forum?

I know back in the beginning GW2 was a smash hit for RP. But as it seems now we are running into the issue of having to be on the same shard as role players where we used to only have to be on the same server. I would appreciate more RP tools both on the forums as well as in game. I do suppose in a way the Lore Section of the forums could be used to RP related things but it just feels better having a full on section to dedicate to it imho. I guess its about organization. Which is understandable.

+10000 on dark / night mode.
I dont mind the new outlines though.
Also signatures are still a must.

Guys, I have awesome news about the 15 minute edit limit!

    @Gaile Gray.6029 said:
As I said earlier this morning, I agree with your concern about this. Here's what's coming up:

    • We're going to change the edit limits on "Recruit" level members to 4 hours. This should help accommodate even the newest of members.
    • We're going to completely eliminate edit limits for those who are "Member" and above. This will ease all of those legitimate concerns about guides, fanfic, and other great content that may need to be amended, added to, even removed by the OP. (Tip: If you remove the content of a post, you can input a note, such as "removed content," and then flag the post to request removal by a moderator.) (This change also helps those of us who look back a day later and see a glaring typo that means we can't sleep well until it's amended. ;) )

Forum participants achieve "Member" level after just three days of participation and five posts. This means that those of you who joined us yesterday, with the launch of the new forums, will have unlimited forum edit rights Friday morning (Pacific time). Retaining a limit--albeit an increased limit--on new members is helpful because it aligns with our fraud protections, which actually have a 72-hour limitation on some elements related to account functionality.

Thanks for letting us know about your concerns, and please share any additional feedback in the feedback thread for the forums!

I have expressed my skepticism elsewhere about the security rationale for the omission of images. Not buying it.

My thought as well. I simply fail to see how images can cause "security issue". I deal with software and web systems a lot so I understand about these things and I can't see why uploading images here can be "insecure". However, the only "threat" I can see about it is the use of inappropriate content.

The most obvious threat would be the filenames themselves.

Beyond that, it's abusing underlying systems with file uploads or the request system period.

Such as this lovely little guy:
    https://www.cvedetails.com/cve/CVE-2016-1000031/

    Or this guy:
    https://www.cvedetails.com/cve/CVE-2016-4450/

Look, if you're not a security guy, please just don't even comment on security.

Their choice to block file uploads of images is entirely reasonable both for security & cost saving purposes.

imgur has worked just fine for years everywhere else anyway.

Thank you for this post explaining some of the reasoning behind the decision regarding image hosting. I was very, very sad when I was told that we would be eliminating the ability to upload images right on to the forums. I mean, I host a monthly fan art program, and hosting art directly on the forums has been a major contributor to that show! And as much as I know we have the occasional silly person posting something entirely inappropriate, I felt the benefits far outweighed the risk of that happening.

However, this decision does not rest with me, just as other security-related decisions do not rest with any member of the Communications Team. As part of our extensive research, vetting, selection, and development process for the new forums, we were told that hosting images was not a secure practice, and ultimately that was the decision that was made and implemented for the new forums.

We will be looking for members to post links to images, ranging from game bugs to visual glitches to, yes, fan art.

So far I like the new format. By any chance is there a place I can read up on what exactly these badges do? I would like to know a bit more about them but I'm not really sure where to look and I didn't see it in the sticky section unless I just completely overlooked it. The main feedback I would give right now though is just it would be nice to have a few more avatars and a day/night mode for the forums. For the avatars is it possible we can use pictures of our heroes? I think that would be pretty neat to have.

Awesome. So do these badges have any effect on your account or is it more like some forum flair? Also, I would like to add to the feedback that things can look at bit messy when quoting someone that has been quoting others. I wanted to edit this down a bit to respond just to the part about myself but it looks a bit cluttered to really tell where one quote ends and another begins. It is no big issue as multi-quotes get condensed down but I think it would be a nice little improvement to responding if I can easily select the part I wish to respond to.

New avatars might be rewards for in-game achievements and such.

  • I feel like the new Forums would take some time to get used to. But I do agree that there are issues that need to be addressed outlined by a couple people on this thread such as the heading, some of the spacing, and creating topic pages for as described before for HoT and Living Story Content. It would be nice if there was options to change simple design from what its currently now to the old mode. If they could implement that since some people prefer the old style a lot more than the new so why not have both as options? They could add in a retro mode for people who want to use that style and have people who want this style without having to split the forums.

Gaile stated... somewhere, they are going to add new avatars. I imagine they'll add the Elite Specs for PoF at the very least. I also hope they add the race icons.

  • Please could you make the light grey parts of the webpage darker? Like the bar at the top-left with the links to the official site, forums, support and wiki, and the account name and icons. Not sure if it's my eyes or the fact that I use a red light filter with a low brightness setting, but I find it really hard to see against the white, and couldn't figure out if I was logged on/how to do so when I first arrived.

I like that the forum posts themselves are larger, so that's nice... I like being able to choose my own avatar (though maybe an option to show my own character would be awesome), so that's nice too... However...

I don't enjoy all the whiteness. It's. So. White. SO WHITE. There needs to be more color and a little contrast between posts. They just blend together.

Someone also mentioned all the lines - it really is distracting and/or annoying to look at, and I'm sure you guys can come up with a more visually appealing way to separate posts.

When you're viewing forum topics, I feel that everything is just so large. If there were an option to scale down such things, I would really like to know. :/

  • It would be interesting to be able to have custom avatars instead of a list of generic ones. This will permit to differentiate who's talking on a thread even easier and make profiles pretty =) :bleep_bloop:

New suggestion... expand the "Recent developer posts" section on the home page. Right now its only 2 "pages" (or 6 posts total). I know for sure its possible to do at least 4 "pages" as I've seen other forums using this same structure with 4, but honestly, as many as you can fit in there would be great. There's probably a hard-coded limit of some sort, and I say go all the way with it. Its really cool to have a little scroll like that showing you all the recent developer stuff without needing to go to a dedicated section for it.

  • The design is a little bit distracting and cluttered in my opionion. I liked the old forum more, it was easier on the eyes.

But I like the avatars. Would be great if we could have a better selection :)

Sorry to say that, but I just detest the new forum appearance and organization, a real mess, what's this hell?! I largely prefer the ancient one, don't have to surf during 1hour to find something: Categories and giant page with a list of topics in function of last replied was awesome... Also hate this timer which logout you for innactivy, nobody have the right to log me out, I log in when I want and log out when I want. It's not because a player is innactive, that he don't read a long post, thinking how to formulate his sentences or have a reflexion! I am just sad and very dissapointed, this new looks burn my eyes! :'( :anguished:
