  • I have had this exact issue on a VM super hub 3. I have made the change to the IP Flooding and will see if it fixes it. It does seem absurd that we are having to make these workarounds when this has clearly been a problem for so long. I'm a returning player and I just want to close out the game storyline, but this nonsense is putting me off!

  • An issue I've had for YEARS. To be honest I don't know how I even put up with it anymore. Just dc'd from the Hearts and Minds story mission twice and always after being ported outside mordremoth's mind. Worst missions for me were Hidden Arcana from season 2 which I had to replay countless times and I always disconnect in the same exact moment (before the last cutscene) and same goes for the season 4 mission where you have to clear the spiders from the suns refuge. EVERY time there's a cutscene or the game takes control of the camera, I cross my fingers and hope that I don't dc. It's completely ruining my enjoyment of the game...
Worst thing is when I'm playing with friends and we all have to restart entire missions because of my disconnects. It's incredibly annoying.

I am so very disappointed with this issue still being alive. I quit a couple years ago because of disconnects during story missions. Came back recently this week and low and behind the disconnects still happen(forcing me too restart the missions, losing tons of gameplay time with absolutely no gains).. never during open world, only instances. I just bought full upgrades for me and my wife.. regrettably now. You guys really need to get this resolved.. but obviously its not a priority. This is a major issue and needs too be FIXED.

  • One of my friends is having this issue pretty bad and it is killing out ability to go through the story together

  • golah.8903golah.8903 Member ✭✭

In echoes of the past quest in the living world 2 I Get to the end with the shadow crystal is and get the cut scene and get the reels showing up then it freezes and crashes me out to character selection.

  • It is clear that they are not able to fix this due to error prone dev design.. It uses multiple proccesses(binaries), each isolated with own connection so thats why you can use UI (write to chat etc), watch stucked graphics and know that its matter of time to be disconnected. I saw this conncept in few other games and still don't understand benefits of this approach.

So, i've had the same issue getting disconnected in story instances, keep trying and eventually sometimes manage to get through it, however i've been stuck on Hearts and Minds for a while now (only attempted it around 5 times) always disconnected after beating mordremoth in the dreamscape. I went through everything with Anet tech support, (stopped services and startups, flushed dns, changed in game settings etc, eventually i stumbled across a setting in my router i never knew existed "IP flood detection".

Turned that off and bingo, no more disconnects (well, not tonight anyway) finished hearts and minds, even got cocky and halfway through went to make something to eat! i'm not sure which routers have this setting other than my own, but, if you are on Virgin Media with a hub 3.0, login to your router, advanced settings, security, firewall, uncheck ip flood detection and apply changes. i went from numerous dropped packets on every hop to basically no dropped packets other then to unreachable hosts.

I hope it works for some of you.

My own story disconnects have only been happening noticeably to me since I swapped to Virgin around Christmas, so I'm going to give this a go as well. It certainly sounds promising. I'll come back and update this if it doesnt' seem to solve the problem.

    Edit:

I wasn't convinced I was totally sorted (seeing a lot of client graphics sync issues as well), so I also set up port triggering on the GW2 ports (I'd normally have done that or similar, but when I swapped ISPs things were somewhat hectic and it seems to have fallen though the cracks). Whatever - so far things seem better. But this was always an intermittent problem for me, and after a career testing software I know only too well not to relax too early...

    Edit 2:

Nope. Didn't fix it. I just "finished" the "Darkrime Delves" story within "Visions of the Past: Steel and Fire". And got the "character watching cutscene" icon on my head, followed by a disconnect. And I'm right back at the start of the story. kitten.

  • Hello there, I'm here to keep piling on this disconnect thing.

Anyway, couldn't we just get some half measure like adding more, closer together, checkpoints during story line instances or something like that? I'd be much less pissed off having to replay 10 minutes than a whole freaking hour or something... plus, that would work for everyone, even if we are getting disconnected for different reasons.

    Cheers!

Adding to the pile. Disconnect error "7:11:3:191:101" again, same story instance and result as Doghouse.1562. (For the record, I'm in Canada, with Shaw as my ISP.) The third time I went through the story instance, I skipped the cutscenes altogether as soon as they started, and that did get me through to the end without another disconnect, but man, did it ruin immersion. :( I get similar disconnects in story instances while playing with friends, though the person hosting the story doesn't get kicked. In those cases, I play it through alone, usually without issues. Still a bummer either way.

  • Only have this issue on the long chapter ending cutscenes (which is really really annoying - dozens of retries). On VirginMedia V6 (UK) here. Tried lots of suggestions posted here (many thanks), none unfortunately worked. Found a workaround though which might be worth a go if you can. Tried an iphone (EE) hotspot wifi connection with my laptop (and PC that has wifi) and playing through both the chapter endings I was stuck on completed successfully first time ^^. Worth a try if like me you have tried everything else.

  • Same here. Just came back to the game after a year and trying to work through Path of Fire. Every mission disconnects near the end. About to go back to FF14. This is dumb. Never DC in open world. Only in Missions.

  • Like many others, I've recently returned to GW2 after a long hiatus. I bought the Path of Fire and Living World 3&4 expansions. But after experiencing this fatal flaw 6 times, I've decided to write these purchases off as a sunk cost.

I have done telecomm software develoment for nearly 35 years and could be the ideal "friendly customer" that could gather detailed information for the developers but ANet's silence demonstrates that they simply don't care. It's very unfortunate because I really enjoyed reacquainting myself with my old guildmates but WvW and weekly guild missions are not enough to sustain my interest.

  • I’m just arriving to this thread in May, 2020, and have noticed some of the first few comments from over 2 years ago complaining about disconnecting following a cutscene during the final Arah story mission. I’ve had this happen three times in a row, and it’s extremely frustrating considering it’s the final story mission of the original campaign. Has there been any workable solutions presented to address this at all?

I decided to come back since other games are slow atm and still run into this issue. I was running into this in 2017 during my playthrough of all the personal stories. How is this still a massive issue? I honestly don't want to play anymore since this is a massive problem that has never been fixed.

  • Sigerk.2897Sigerk.2897 Member ✭✭

Same issue here, came back, catching up on story. Every other instance sees me disconnect at the end of it. Please fix this. You've got people coming back after years and still have them running into this hot mess. They pay for living story episodes and then the episode's stories are broken. At the very least start adding saves every couple of steps so that when the disconnects inevitably do happen, you don't have to start from the bloody beginning, slogging through walking paces, unskippable scenes and dialogue's and so on. The story is fun, but not when you have to do it x times in a row because you keep bloody disconnecting. Really frustrating, especially seeing as people have been reporting this for years and the official responses have been rather underwhelming. And talk to your customers. Especially if this has been going on for 2 years.

Tried port forwarding, disabling firewalls, changing settings from fullscreen to windowed, alt-tabbing/minimizing during cutscenes, and pressing skills during cutscenes to no avail. It seems to be tied to scripted events and cutscenes whenever I lose connection and it's the same error 7:11:3:191:101 message everytime. I don't know what else to do to be honest and it's killing my interest in the game.

Here is a Ping Plotter I did for the Victory or Death instance. This is after I have done everything I did above. A lot of missing hops with 100% PL. Not exactly sure how to determine what to do for this.

  • Inculpatus cedo.9234Inculpatus cedo.9234 Member ✭✭✭✭

Looks like the problems start early with Amazon Servers, and continue. Could be due to a lot more internet usage due to the world crisis.
Not sure why your second hop has 100% packet loss.

  • I've never had this issue for years but now it happens in every story instance and only story instances. I have no lag or fps drops during any world event, even Dragons Stand. Yet every story instance I do I disconnect. It's very frustrating since I want to enjoy the story and my friends are now way ahead of me in content .

  • It always happens to me. And 90% of the disconnections occur while waiting for the rewards of the mission to pop up :anguished:
Which is really upsetting... if it would disconnect at the beginning of the mission it would be a little less frustrating I guess...

  • Shivatin.9237Shivatin.9237 Member ✭✭

After finally being able to finish Victory or Death I was able to get all the way to Plan of Attack until it started happening again. I am at wits end at this point. I wish my problem was as easy as switching a "flood IP" setting off like some others but I have an Arris modem that doesn't have this setting. I just want to quit at this point.

I had one a few days back during the personal story, was in the mission "A Light in the Darkness"
I beat the mission and was at the choice dialog box at the end deciding what to take as my "fear choice" and after a few minutes my game just went white screen... sounds and music still remained but I was locked out of the game, then I got a few of those disconnected box pop ups but the game didn't quit to desktop it just stuck on a white screen.
Had to manually close the game and then redo the whole mission the day after.. which naturally I tried to rush through and bugged the dialogue.. forcing me to restart again >.<

Just a heads up i've been toying around with VPNs and Ping reduction services. I have so far used NordVPN (I have the 3 year sub from a while back) and Pingzapper. While NordVPN has prevented disconnects, my ping spikes quite a bit. This might have been due to VPN server location but more testing is needed. However, I was able to complete all of season 2 content without any disconnects with the settings I had.

Next I tried out a service called Pingzapper with the 7-day free trial they offer. I chose to test the service on The Departing mission (I had to complete it 8 times on PoF release with the same exact issues). I did a test with and without Pingzapper. The run without Pingzapper ended in a disconnect as usual. With Pingzapper on I was able to complete the mission with absolutely no issues. Now this could be a stroke of luck on my part or it means the service actually works. To give Pingzapper more testing I plan on doing the entire story on my Guardian up to Heart of Thorns with the service on the entire time.

In the meantime I recommend finding a VPN to help with disconnect issues if you have the same issues and have tried the other methods. I will try to post my test results hopefully soon.

  • Still happening, still only during long, boring story instances with long, unskippable dialogue from characters I don't care about.

  • Came back to GW2 today to get booted to character log screen 3 times in a row trying to the last personal story mission. Not worth playing. Arenanet has been aware of this for years and not fixed it? How are they able to stay profitable?

    Uninstalled.

  • So I just bought the Prologue story to Icebrood Saga and the game has consistently disconnected at the end of the mission " A Race to Arms" now three times and I am tired of wasting my time. Is this happening to anyone else? I'm about to reinstall. Not sure how to fix this.

Update on testing with Pingzapper. Sorry it took a while but I had some issues with internet after a recent storm for a few days.

I tested it on 2 separate characters. I had no disconnects in relation to Anets side after using it. The only times I had issues with disconnects was because of my internet not cooperating. As of right now i'm over halfway into Heart of Thorns on one character and no disconnects. The other character has completed all of Living World Season 2 with no issues either. If you are having issues with story disconnects I recommend Pingzapper. It has definitely helped me out. They offer a 7 day trial so you can try before committing any money. I will admit that I hate that I have to rely on a 3rd party program to get something to work but it is what it is. Hopefully this helps until Anet decide to actually do something about it.

Well I came back after a 5 year break about six weeks ago and had an absolute blast working through the expansion content that I'd missed.

Unfortunately I'm one of the ones affected by these story mode disconnects to the point where I just can't be bothered anymore.

I just did a story instance on an alt and disconnected right before the last fight.

These disconnects always happen to me on both accounts, during unskippable Cinematics...
The downside is that it boots you out of the instance, and you have to replay the entire instance again.

Forging the Pact in this case, already a dragging instance, now have to redo it. Valuable time just lost... gone.

This also happens a LOT on the HoT finale, where there are - weirdly enough - no checkpoints.
On this main account, I crashed twice in that one, after defeating the dragon and had to do the entire (LONG) instance again, FROM THE VERY START which took a total of 3 hours..

yes **THREE HOURS **to complete that ONE instance.
Killed the dragon THREE TIMES just to get it done!

    So my questions are:

Why did you never bother to put in checkpoints on some of these long instances to prevent us wasting our times doing things dozen times over?

Why are these cinematics still unskippable while they are the MAYOR cause of disconnects?

I don't get that AT ALL.

Yes at this moment I am mad.
This has been an issue since the day I started playing this game about 2 years ago, and nothing has been done to meet us half way.

I am VERY dissapointed in that, VERY.

Stating a fact is neither an endorsement for nor against. I'm sure players can make those decisions for themselves without others' input.

What did you need to see from our network connections or logs (if any exist) to start addressing this issue? We're dumping a lot of money playing this game, for such a game breaking feature to exist. Imagine doing 45 minutes to an hour of instance story line...only to disconnect due to some strange error? - Why isn't the feature to reconnect to Instance been ported over from GW1? - It solved a lot of problems back then. Why isn't such a nice feature available in a more modern iteration of the engine?

    play in windowed mode

    Always have, makes no difference

    Constantly press jump/attack buttons

Tried that today, eventually had a disconnect again right after a cutscene

    minimize gw2 during cutscenes.

made no difference, also tremendously impractical

    use a proxy

Tried that yesterday, had a cutscene disconnect almost immediately

The problem with all these fixes is that the issue itself is intermittent. For myself I have almost never had a repeat of a disconnect upon a second run through an instance, so I can advance but it is incredibly deflating and frustrating. So when somene tries a fix and comes to the forums to proclaim its effectiveness, they are likely only seeing what would have happened had they done nothing.

For example today while I was spamming attacks/jumps during cut scenes, I managed to get through six or seven instances without issue so I begin thinking that this is some kind of miracle cure. Until it isn't and you disconnect anyway.

Anet needs to do the right thing and either add checkpoints, or (the easier option imo) keep instances open for 5 minutes after a player disconnects from the server. Lots of other games do this so you can get back into an instance even if you disconnect.

For folks who are interested. I've been digging into this.

    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments

    -clientport 80
Instructs the client to connect to the game servers over port 80 (HTTP) instead of 6112 (commonly used for games).
Some ISPs may prioritize traffic at certain times, and some networks may block port 6112. This may be useful to avoid such scenarios.
Some ISPs, networks, and other forms of MITM attacks may modify traffic on port 80 which will lead to issues with the GW2 client if this option is used.

    -clientport 443
Instructs the client to connect to the game servers over port 443 (HTTPS) instead of 6112 (commonly used for games).
Some ISPs may prioritize traffic at certain times, and some networks may block port 6112. This may be useful to avoid such scenarios.
Some ISPs, networks, and other forms of MITM attacks may modify traffic on port 443 which will lead to issues with the GW2 client if this option is used (this is less-likely to occur than with port 80).

I'm going to try both of these, to see if connection issues persist. Other than that, I could try to diagnose this issue through a game dump file, and see what might cause this.

Update: I did skip the cinematic, but it still didn't kick me out. So -clientport 80 seems to work, for now. May I kindly request the rest of the community to give these options a try, so I can compile some data on whether this was a fluke or viable solution for the time being.

Just here to advise this issue is still going on. Doing the Deadeyestory mission....3 times...as each time I get to the middle platform, and the deadeye tells me to 'Do It'...I crash out to character select.

Not gonna bother now. Games are supposed to be fun, not hard work.

  • I had a similar problem. My pc disconnect when I saw a dragon with some special effects that was not a cut scene.

I play on NVIDIA graphics card which driver is always up to date. So the problem must be in connection with some other drivers (Intel graphics card, firmware etc.) which werent up to date, At least in my case.

Thought I would come here and post yet another wacky possible solution that is probably just coincidentally working and will unravel as a solution over more playtime, but here goes...

Since using the d912pxy driver (which contrary to my initial expectations actually does increase FPS significantly) I did not crash at all over the course of several story instances.

Yesterday after an update to the game the d912pxy redirect stopped working (you can tell because d912pxy has a bug that makes character portraits on the select screen not show properly, and rivatuner verified I was running dx9) and I had a disconnect during a cutscene.

Coincidence? Maybe. But it's worth a shot to use d912pxy since it has worked flawlessly for me and all you have to lose is... well actually you can really only gain since the game will likely run better for you.

PS if you do choose to try it, I would use a gw2 addon manager to install/uninstall d912pxy for simplicity.

    Good luck.

PPS I got d912pxy working again by looking fixing some game flags in the registry as is described in the online Readme. Plus it got the mount radial menu up and running which I could never get to work before!
