The poster child for Revenant, Rytlock, is a Charr.

    Also, Renegade is entirely Charr-themed.

And yet the art from HoT anf PoF depicts Herald and Renegade in the skin of a male and female lettuce...

Definitely charr. Even recreated my rev as a charr. Heck, revenent armor has the only pants that account for charr tail physics.

    Human

I usually play near/human and in GW2 I love the norn race because they are BIG and snow leopard OP for classes with no access to stealth. Who knows when you will want/need it? ;-)

However, when it came time to choose a race for my revenant I chose human because you cannot slot in racial skills and armor skins in general "fit" better on them. On norn some of the armor skins are not tailored very well.

I do not regret my human choice.

    Anet buff me :-(
    Make me good at game!

Lore-wise i'd go (and went for Norn), their Havrouns already are said to be able to travel to the mists. So they're more like to have been the first Revenants (just not called that) than Rytlock.

Style-wise those armour and weapon sets look good on just about everything, although the Mistward armour is one of the best looking armours for char. Probably because it was fitted for Rytlock first i guess, most other charr armors (even cultural ones) look weird and ill fitted. But it doesn't mean that it looks worse on other races, just that for charr heavy users its one of the best fitting armours in the game.

  • Asura

ive been playing charr rev since it came out and right now im trying to re-roll and deciding between sylvari and asura. It's incredibly difficult to find more than a couple armor sets thats look good on charr and so far I like the glow and style of the sylvari, makes it seem easier to recreate my gw1 ritualist feel and look like ive come straight from the echovald forest. And I always like asura cus they remind me of maplestory characters lol

Asura have amazing cultural heavy armour, and are all around awesome.
Charr have Rytlock, but for some that may be a reason not to go charr. Renegade is charr-themed, too.
Sylvari have Ventari as a legend.
    Humans work with everything.
Norn, well, I never liked them. Male norn look ridiculous, and female are just humans with bigger sliders and worse voice acting.

I went for human with mine because the heavy lore tie ins were the only way I was going to have fun playing a human when Norn and Sylvari are options.

I do wonder if the asura dodge animations look even better on a revenant though. And their cultural heavy armour is great.

Been trying out different pvp races for rev since i have a charr rev with mostly everything completed and something felt off. Made an asuran rev to test in pvp and idk why but its way more fun now. And i love the animation for mace 3 lol just a double flip and a body slam is dope. They look like theyre doing that drunken style of combat and its great.

charr, just for rhytlock. he needs a charr revenant friend

sadly, asura would be the overkill-race if looking for pvp/wvw ,but looks completely buggy even in character-creation menu

    Norn

Norn, their culture is all about legends and stories. If anyone would know legends of the mists and be more capable of channeling them it would be them; As well their havroun's and shamans ALREADY walk into the mists and they make it their mission to protect it (Personal story choice.) Plus they have a unique connection too the mists, nature and tyria via their connection to the spirits of the wild. All and all the best race IMO for head-cannon as to how you were a rev before rytlock, simply put you were a shaman who became more focused and became a revenant. Or well classified as a revenant~

The norn were doing the whole mist magic LONG before it was a class, the other might be human as they have the dervish, ritualist and necromancer all of which can link themselves to god realms. (Necromancers can literally sense disturbances in the underworld, given how they react to the entrances to it when dhuum is being a little stink for raids..)

Sylvari based off how the one in the red-borderland talks about (If you are red that week, he is in the corner near some merchants.) How he is called to this place; How he feels the mists singing to him and pulling him closer. He says he feels engrossed and saturated in its essence and thus, I'd say sylvari have the potential to become revenants relatively easily.

Asuran and charr are the two less likely canidates, neither are spiritual and and while asuran study the mists they make it a point to say its dangerous and not to link ones self to it. Charr HATE MAGIC and almost executed rytlock when he finally went back to the citadel, he had to teach some people how to use it and that is how we got Kalla as an E-spec. The charr are the LEAST likely to willingly use it; As it goes against their entire culture so while Rytlock is the first "Revenant" others have shown they are more capable of utilizing mist magic.

So based on lore I assume, that this is the likely situation.

    1. Norn have probably been doing in the longest on tyria, thus they are more stable and more capable. They probably have a better understanding of the mists as they view themselves as an extension of it; And that the spirits of the wild expect them to protect the mists and their ancestors while making their legend. EVERY norn hero is a legend, they have ton of legends in the mists. The spirits of the wild who interact pretty regularly with the norn, can move between tyria and the mists at will and the havroun's can open the way and bring MULTIPLE people into the mists with them and teach people how to utilize its magic. (Personal story, if you choose outside of the "Strength to defeat our ancient foe"). Even In the Strength storyline, you enter the mists and talk to a Jotuun king who tells you the legends of his people and how they fell; So even the jotuun have a huge presence within the mists and AS A BASIC NORN, you can enter the mists if the way is open which you do open it to speak with him.
    2. Humans, the six gods are mists beings and the humans come from another world having been led here THROUGH the mists by their gods. Necromancers, Dervishes and ritualists all call upon aspects of the god realms (Which are in the mists) and their culture is based upon very roman/greek forms of worship around these mist beings.
    3. Sylvari, they are dragon minions. Several have said they feel the "Call of the mists" meaning they can sense and interact with it willingly with little strain. Im sure some were born with the ability to tap into this power; Given how the pale tree seems to be familar with the mists as she sends you through it to view Orr. The dream could also be said to be an extension of the mists, this a place in which sylvari's minds manifest so this could in turn mean every sylvari has some form of mist magic within themselves.Whether or not they can harness it or not? Thats something up to the player.
    4. Asuran, they study it and im sure some might of tried to utilize it for other means .... maybe they figured out how to channel legends. (seems unlikely, given how self obssessed and willfully ignorant they can be.)
    5. Charr, the least likely unless you're part of the ones trained by rytlock brimstone who was the first "Revenant". Charr again hate magic, of all sorts so if you want a LORE FRIENDLY charr? Well ranger, thief, warrior, engineer would be the classes for you as they frown upon magic due to the flame-legion. They might accept necromancy due to the power as long as they are kept an eye on but I can't see a guardian or ele being part of the legions. Mainly because of the fact that they in themselves utilize fire magic, ESPECIALLY GUARDIAN because their magic resembles the foe-fire.

None of them seems to fit well the lore. I would say:

    Humans: Guardian, Mesmer, Thief.
    Norn: Ranger, Necro.
    Charr: Engineer, Warrior.
    Asura: Engineer, Elementalist.
    Sylvari: Thief, Ranger, Mesmer.

The game lacks lore behind Revenants because the game was done without them, and since the introduction that absence has only deepened. It fits well the convoluted mess the class is at the moment.

I play sylvari herald which seems to fit the story decently. The sylvari meet caithe and trahearne early, they are of mordremoth, and as herald you channel glint. So right there you have a connection to Orr through trahearne and caithe, a connection to mordremoth as sylvari, a connection to aurene and glint as herald... I don't see why everyone is posting charr lol

  • xXMapcoXx.9614xXMapcoXx.9614 Member ✭✭✭

This class is mist themed and what race has the most connection to the mist? That's right the norn! people only say charr cuz brimstone was the first and the arm was made to fit a charr!

  • Norn

I would make a Norn revenant, but if you want to be renegade then Charr seems like the natural choice. Honestly, you should just make whatever race you identify with the most for your revenant and don't be racist.

  • Norn

Norn can have tattoos, and long, legendary hair (at least females). They are too epic for me to change into something else. I considered and backtracked.
