Thank you ANet [re: Spec unlocks]

I'll be honest, I dreaded the possibility that you might make the new spec unlocks cost more HPs or gate them behind story or PoF-specific areas. I was even largely expecting something like that to happen, and started a thread about that in the old forums. But you didn't do it, and I just want to thank you. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's happy about being able to fully unlock new specs and enjoy them from day 1 (well, once the launch day issues even out, so maybe from day 2 :tongue: ) provided that we did the "work" of doing extra HPs beforehand. Thank you.

Agreed. I think this was the best way to go about it, especially since the expansions can be purchased and played independently (PoF starters can use excess points for HoT elites down the road). Looking forward to using all the proofs of heroics/skirmish chests I've stashed since working on legendaries. Alt characters that have barely touched core Tyria are going to get a nice jump start!

When HoT first landed, the elite spec was something like 350 or 400 HPs to unlock. I've got map completion (core) + HoT map completion on my Warrior and I think I have something like 365 or so HP points available to spend. So, I can instant unlock Spellbreaker and play the first map. Unlike in HoT, as it was originally, I would have had to complete nearly all the HP's in all 4 HoT maps to unlock Berserker. Anet came back and dropped the Elite Spec requirement to 250 at some point, for which I am most grateful - having completed getting the HoT Elites unlocked on 9 level 80's across 2 accounts now.

I only have 114 points left over now :(Not enough to buy the Expansion 3 elite spec without playing in Path of Fire!

The only part I disliked about the new elite specs is that once more, there is no lore or story behind them. Although I agree they shouldn't be gated behind content, I'd like to see at least a short instance as an introduction to the elite specs from a lore stand point. Nothing time consuming.

I guess I got hyped by all the talks by the developers like "Scourges are Necromancers who defy Palawa Joko!" or "Spellbreakers use ancient Sunspear techniques" and all that. And in the end we see none of that.

There is more lore for the PoF elites than there were for HoT(but that isn't difficult!). They all have a reason to be in that area of the world.

I, personally, was hoping that we would have to do a small quest to get something like "The XXXXX Handbook" from a CD master that unlocked the specialisation, rather than "Game's launched, here are your new goodies." Especially as I couldn't even get to the Crystal Desert, because of intancing failures, yet had a full compliment of skills!

So visit master, do simple quest, get handbook and weapon. Complete the spec circle, return to master and receive the armour piece.

But this is just my opinion for immersion quality.

WvW is a good way to get extra hero points for alts, and it pairs well with other goals in the game, like making legendaries.
