Couldn't be more dissapointed (p.s. help, please.)

Recommended Posts

From launch untill the latest update I never experienced any issues running the game smoothly.I always played Guild Wars 2 on a macbook pro, but since the game went to litteraly unplayable (and my mac was ready for replacement),

I bought a new laptop. One from PC Specialist, with an intel core i5 processor and a NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050 graphics card.I thought to be all set, but after setting up the laptop, updating the drivers, ... The game is still absolute trash. Even on 'best performance'.

Does anyone here have a clue? I ran out of thoughts.

(Yes, the FPS seems pretty low, dangling in between 20-40)

Nope, call me stupid, but for some reason I have the option to run the game with the NVIDIA driver, or the 'implemented' one. Apparently it wasn't set by default. So that solved the fps problem. Sadly enough, ping spikes through the roof every now and then. I already contacted my provider and ran tests on my router, but that ones completely fine, so I guess the lagg issue is on Anets end.

When detemining the cause of lag there are three options.1: you have issues with everything. This is at your end, but not the case here.2: Everyone has issue with Arenanet. Believe. This forum would be bulging in outrage. So this is clearly not the case either.3: a small amount of people have severe issues with Arenanet while others have not. This is here the case and the cause is always inbetween.

Data sent from A to B is done by packets. Imagine them as cars going from A to B. most optimal you want them to go the best available road. So the shortest fastest road to the highway and stick on it and take the best exit to Arenanet. That is not what your packets are doing. they are going over some sort of dirttrack in the desert. So why is this? each packet is individual, but they use the same navigation system. This is basically a system provided by your provider.

So call your provider right? good luck with that. The first line support has a call script that will always blame it on Arenanet, no matter what argument you give against it. They are not allowed to escalate it. The reason is that the person you contact is not the real provider. it is a service provider who is also a customer. and that service is also a customer.

There's the problem, I suppose. Try unparking all cores, then enter "msconfig" into the Windows Search field, go to the "Boot" tab, click "Advanced", then set the maximum number of available cores (called "processors") in the dropdown menu, click "OK", and restart your PC afterwards. (If you have hyper-threading activated in BIOS, it will show you twice the number of "processors", which in this case means threads. It's up to you whether you want to use hyper-threading or not, but if you activate it in BIOS, you should use the respective double-value.)

"Implemented" or "Intel"? Intel HD graphics are fine for basic non-gaming use (and use less power) but suck bigbigbigtime for gaming. So yeah, you have to tell the machine to use the NVidia card for gaming.

This actually did the job for me.

A big thank you for everyone who out there that tried to help me, much love <3

@ArchGenie.1063 said:I also built an g4560 with gtx 1050 + 8gb ram, runs with 40-70 fps at 1080p on high settings, but sometimes after 1-3 hours of gameplay it stutters several seconds and than BAM!! 5 stable fps lol. The fix is restarting the client. I researched the problem later, it seems that there is an incompatibility with the new nvidia drivers, the nvidia company probably is already working on a fix since this can have a significant impact on their sales from gw2 hardcore gamers, especially when the 5 fps thing happens in raids, and you become like pepe's feelsbadman

This has been happening to me as well. Though, I just came back to the game after a year or more. Also running new nvidia drivers.. will have to try rolling back.

Are you playing the game over WiFi if so check and see if you are on the old very over crowded 2.4ghz band if so change to 5ghz band if your router/ modem isn’t dual band then you may need to get a new one. One way to eliminate and test if your issue is WiFi try running an Ethernet cable from your laptop to the router and see if the lag spikes go away. Never game over WiFi!
