Recommended Posts

So this a question what could happen or do you all think will happen in the aftermath of guild wars 2 when the last of the elder dragons are long last defeated will some of the nations go back to fighting each other or will for the first time will there be peace to last for however long it can?

To sleep is no issue, that's part of the constant cycle. Its their deaths that causes imbalance. It's like a set of two dragons are opposing poles, like a magnet, and with all six, the magic circulates smoothly. But remove poles one by one and the magic will slowly circulate out of control

The poles being something like..Life and deathCreation and destructionPunishment and corruption

Those are not correct poles, just 'on the spot' thoughts

In the story it was established that this would, roughly speaking, destroy the world. So ... technically peace, I guess, in the sense that nobody fights when they are vaporized.

The story explains that if you destroy the elder dragons, their magic would spread out into the world and throw it into chaos, effectively destroying it, yes. However! The story also implies very heavily that if you can find a suitable replacement for this magic before it gets too out of control, you can destroy the elder dragons with no repercussions.

Effectively, you need something that isn't evil to replace the elder dragon and house all that magic. It's very heavily implied as well, that this is what Glint's scions were for (like Aurene), and I have no doubt that the story will likely lead to us killing and replacing all the elder dragons in time. Aurene could make a great replacement for Kralkatorrik, for example, but she will need to become a bit stronger first, I think.

It depends on what exactly happens to the dragons.

If they're killed then based on what we learned during HoT & Season 3 onwards:

Everyone dies, quite possibly Tyria itself is destroyed too. It seems the dragons act as a sort of balancing force keeping each other, and other forms of powerful magic, in check. Without them the magic gets loose and causes all kinds of random and dangerous effects. Although it might be possible to find something to replace them or some other way to keep the extra magic in check, but at the moment we have no idea what could do that.

If they go back to sleep naturally then they'll have drained almost all the magic from Tyria first, and it seems that in this world magic is synonymous with energy, which everything needs to exist (especially living things). We have almost no records from the last time they rose partially because so much was destroyed and so many people killed. The sentient races that were around at the time never fully recovered (although that wasn't entirely the dragons fault - the jotun for example seem to have largely destroyed their own civilisation with endless civil wars). It seems reasonable to assume some life will survive but it would take thousands of years for tyria to get back to the kind of state it's in now and it wouldn't be the same.

If they're put to sleep earlier than usual then it depends on lots of things. How early? Do they fight back and what do they do? Do their minions disappear or just lose focus like Zhaitan's when he was killed? How confident can we be that they'll stay asleep? What did it take to get them to sleep and what will the fall-out from that be?

This is the big problem we've had all along. We know almost nothing about the dragons, more now than when they first appeared but still not a lot. All we know for sure is if we leave them to it we will almost certainly all die, as will everyone else on Tyria and the world will be changed beyond all recognition. So I think we've been acting on the basis that anything else is better than that, but things have gotten quite complicated as we've learned more about how the dragons function and their relationship with Tyria.

Maybe the these elder dragons were once upon time just regular dragons but then as they grew older they got more powerful they started to choose to consume the worlds magic that it became an obsession where the elder dragons want consume the worlds magic. And Maybe the former gods (not human gods) created the World of Tyria were force to flee because again the elder dragon to powerful and cause again if the elder dragons die the magic in Tyria dies.

Seriously though, I don’t see us going to war with each other all of a sudden. We weren’t really at war with each other before we decided to go after Zhaitan.

Yeah there will be peace for who knows how long and more adventure and exploring in other lands for our heros.

I can only see some artifact and or another dragon that is friendly acting as the conduit.

Well, as we know, killing the Dragon does not end their Minions or corruption.

So this is a minor problem, as, at one time, Tyria was free from Dragon Corruption, a clean lush, world, where beings could grow and enjoy the land as it were.

With that as a basis.

If they go back to sleep:

Their corruption will remain, and quite possibly slowly spread (Think Asura harnessing dragon Energy, Sons of Svnair using Dragon corruption, Risen making more Risen as they slay living things, etc.. etc) but.. as it spreads it is not controlled, there is no reason or motive behind it, nor any line drawn, ergo, Risen will cross into Magumma and Branded into Ice Brood, etc.. since their master not around to clean it up, or tell it to stop. So dragon corruption will spread like some kind of directionless cosmic jelly around the planet, in some form or another, and since outside of just fighting it head on, we have no real way to stop it, so, it becomes an eternal force until it finally consumes everything.

Which will require the Elder Dragon to Wake up and clean up their Mess. Which is why they Wake up Start with. First they Warp and Corrupt the World, then they clean it up again, and allow cultures and life to re-start.

If they Die.

We know that their realms of control pass on to the surviving dragons, as such, each slain dragon will make the remaining dragons stronger, until we get to a final dragon that will control all spheres of power, which would make them Akin to something like Veeshan. But as it stands the Elder Dragons are not Immortal, and they do have Offspring. So, perhaps slaying them totally is not really possible. There is a good chance that Mordermoth has an egg somewhere, ready to hatch and reclaim it's rightful domain and control, it could be sleeping at this moment, going underground, buried under it's parents vines like a nest, until it is ready to take the place as the new Jungle dragon. Same could be said for any of them, look at how many dragons were flying around with Zhaitan, and while the Elder Dragon was biggest among them, they were all his/her children, or perhaps they are like a Queen Bee, where they can have many off spring, and many eggs, and once they pass on, a new Dragon is Born with the Ability to inherit the Elder Dragons Legacy. and power, but, of course this does not happen quickly, in fact, maybe the Heir is supposed to kill their parent and take the spheres of control, hence why they are released upon death, and if we kill them, that screws everything up.

how's punishment and corruption opposites of each other?

Not literal opposites, all dragons, even life and creation, are 'evil' in our eyesWhen i look at Jormag, he doesn't corrupt directly. He makes the promise of power, so people follow him willingly. While Mordremoth tries to innately corrupt something from within.Punishment is a term for from the old mesmer schools. but maybe a better term would be'Corruption and domination'?English isn't my native language

It's all about imagination. There's always a way to go... I for example imagined that it would be cool if we, after this Elder dragon thing is done, went on a mission to explore some of these far and unknown continents, perhaps build a colony for all 5 main races or discover a new intelligent civilization, and plenty of new challenges. It makes sense since Elder dragons partially prevent free movement to some places (and if Bubbles is defeated, the ocean would suddenly be free for ordinary ships to sail).

Going other lands yeah I can see more adventures in the aftermath there always be more more threats to face againt the one adventure will end but there will always be more.
