Finding these things scattered around Tyria, all broken.Any ideas who built them and for what purpose?Seems that since none are being repaired whoever did build them are either no longer around , or there is no use for them anymore. They are interactable but just give a message that this probe has self destructed.tnx

What Blocki said. Scarlet, the antagonist of S1, built them to map out the ley line network, which directly set up the season finale when she struck at the ley line hub under Lion's Arch. Like the wreckage in Kessex Hills, the probes are still around because the devs never went back to clean up the trash S1 left behind.

They aren't yet. The Commander and the Pact have been extremely busy dealing with pressing issues elsewhere: Elder Dragons, the loss of the Fleet, a human god going rogue, etc., etc. As far as we know, only Taimi has been researching Scarlet's destroyed tech, but that doesn't mean nobody else is, nor that they can't have another purpose.

It's all part of the "living world" concept. These things' remains are here because they were here and were destroyed. It would be strange if they simply vanished. They also represent an unfinished thread in a finished story, raising questions exactly as you did. Will they be expounded upon? maybe, maybe not... but the point is they still can.

Fort Salma, prior to Scarlet had been accessible and untouched as well, a nice little village really.

Wiki:

Prior to Living World Season 2 the fort was completely accessible from both sides. After its destruction, the waypoint, merchants, and nearby vista were moved outside of the actual fort, and both of its previous entrances were closed. The fort can now be entered by traversing through the decimated ruins.

Mmh saboting these probes could turn them into ley-line destabilizer devices ruining the asuran waypoints array... Will be hilarous to see a second vilain using them..Since Joko have awekened asura, he could perfectly create a blackout around Tyria, citizens without waypoint and asuran gates would be completely lost..I haven't said anything.. whistle
