Catapult Gravel Shot

What exactly is the purpose of this skill? What role is this ability supposed to fulfill?

It has no purpose.

I tried it yesterday for fun to see if there was any difference (we where 2v30 defending a tower, not exactly a serious defense) and wanted to hit those 30 peeps at long range... Lol is all I can say. The zerg literally stood still between two of the gravel balls because of the wide spread.

Can delete the skill, no one will notice.

It does a crap ton of damage to siege. It can also insta down people if enough gravel hits them. Boulders has a larger AOE and knock back, but it never hits hard enough to down players before OOC regen kicks in. Its really good if the enemy has bad siege placement.......

The fan shape arc doesn't make sense. It's essentially a waste of a skill and time.

It's nice against uplevels and PvE builds. A WvW player might get caught just because they're so confused as to why you're throwing pebbles at them.

It's a hold over from when people played defense

You can bug it out so every shot hits the same spot and instantly kill people. It's been that way since week 1 of the game. Seems to be it's only purpose and as a six year old bug I guess working as intended?

Killing npcs at alpine enemy spawns, or use to be able too

It can insta-down people if enough shots hit them. The problem is consistently doing it. If they narrowed the cone of attack it might be a decent option for defensive siege. Until then, it is mostly useless, yes.

Used it maybe once or twice. Too wide of a cone to do anything. Did chop away at some pugs health but there's just so many boons + heals going on it literally don't make a difference. Should just delete the skill or reduce spread. Not sure what people are saying it bugs out and one shots... never seen that before.

I remember using it befire...would alternate between that and the standard shot. Havent used it for years tho

I accidentally got stuck on it a week ago firing a catapult. Gravel shot is about as impressive against an attacking horde as any full mastery ac shot is except its got a longer cd :).

I think anet could probably just delete this skill.

Really no use for it, can't think of a use, and it's pointless to spend any more developer time on this. Please just get rid of it.

I'm going to further add that it's so useless it's actually worse for your zerg if someone hops on and accidentally switches the skill over to gravel shot now they're stuck with that skill for a while... haha

That's, in my opinion, the worst damage IT can do currently

yeah it should be removed. Accidentally switching to it sucks.

Also it encourages open-field catapult use... do we really want any of that? Nobody builds catas on top of walls for defense... is that the purpose of this skill?

Plenty of keeps and towers have great spots for defensive catapults. Gravel shot is however inferior to the normal boulder in most situations that include a defensive catapult.

Or change gravel to something actually useful

what would you suggest then?

The reason why I suggest removing it is because it would be one less item the anet developers would spend time on, and would redirect their time on more pressing matters.

Like the server restructuring.

Simple change....like the mortar ability, make it fiery gravel that causes a fire field
