Balance Update: 2 October 2018 — Guild Wars 2 Forums

Balance Update: 2 October 2018

‘Allo Fellow Tyrians,

We wanted to let you know that next Tuesday the Systems team will be releasing a smaller balance update. This update is coming out a bit earlier than we normally release a balance pass – consider it a little bonus! The release is focused around updating some weapon traits to make them more broadly usable and splitting some skills between game modes.

Cheers,

The ArenaNet Systems Team

Mmm don...I mean broadly applicable traits. 🤤

    • Updating some traits
    • Splitting some skills between game modes.

Be careful not to overhype the implications. Without details, this seems like it will probably only address a tiny handful of things, which might or might not be issues that have gotten the most (or loudest) attention from the community.
(As always, I'm personally waiting to see the details before worrying about it.)

Oh, I agree. I'm fully expecting something along the lines of three to five bullet points.

Still, small suprise updates make me happy.

Honestly id be plenty fine with frequent but smaller balance changes.

Since I only play two classes I don't expect any changes to them but... I'm hoping to get a few awful traits changed regardless.

cough Give us that Staff ele rework soon though. cough

Revenant shield badly needs improvements. Its still considered worthless. the self root -NEEDS- to go!

My first thought when I read this. Although, it does say weapon traits, but they could surprise us. Anyways, nice news to hear regardless.

🤔 I'm always nervous about balance patch. Hopefully doesn't affect me as much.

Death is Energy [DIE] in EU
Envoy's Herald, VitV, DD, SS, The Eternal, LNHB, Champion Magus, Champion Phantom, Wondrous Achiever etc.

  • I wish warrior's 100 blades has no self root. Spins like Axe5 and while using it gains resistance/immune (for pve)

whelp.. might as well've told us nothing.
not sure what this announcement is going to do for, we don't know what it'll pertain, so its not like we can prepare for anything.

Does this mean DPS differences between weapons will be reduced?
or that traits will no longer be connected to weapons, but rather to simply fighting?

As long as this patch contains "Headbutt can now be used underwater, so berserkers can finally swim" i'll have nothing to complain about

To defeat the dragons, see the good in them.
Zhaitan reunites lost ones, primordus creates fertile land, mordremoth spreads the green, and jormag..
    ..jormag? Who's that?

    Probably neither of those things.

Probably more along the lines of something like https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ankle_Shots going
    from

Critical hits with pistols and harpoon guns have a chance to cripple foes. Pistol and harpoon attacks deal increased damage to crippled foes.

    to

Critical hits with pistols and harpoon guns have a chance to cripple foes. Attacks deal increased damage to crippled foes.

So that while you gain more benefits if you are using the associated weapon but it can still be relevant even if you don't.

  • Thanks for this☺. More balance and updated skills and traits keeps me focused on the game more than.most other updates!

  • As long as they don't make using some weapon traits HARDER to use. If you use the Focus trait for Guardian you HAVE to consider using Meditation skills in your build as an example of how limited things are.

I doubt I'd be able to use Sword/Focus and Staff on Firebrand with this coming update. Surprise me though.

Focus Mastery has nothing to do with Meditations. Monk's Focus is the Meditation trait.

Guess what!! When I read the msg, Gaile mentioned "consider this a little bonus" has to be something good!! Maybe freebies lol or fix to the sigil? :P

  • Hey guys, we see that Sword Ele is near the top of the dps charts, thus, we've gone ahead and nerfed lava font and meteor shower on all game modes.

They're in the same line meaning it pretty much does. What if I only want to use Focus Mastery? The traits other than Monk's Focus isn't worthwhile to the point I feel I have to use Meditation skills.

The entire Valor line looks a bit lackluster.

Then the patch will probably make things worse. It might become useful even if you aren't using a focus.

Also why the is Stalwart Defender a Major while Focus Mastery is adept?!!! They are basically the same thing for different weapons.

    Thx System Team <3 <3 <3

  • Wish i could say i was hopeful but i'm not because thus far it's NEVER a balance it's always Nerf the ranger/druid to unusable even in PVE, OP the classes like Guardian and REV and make other pointless not needed changes all over the place, some even ending up function or game braking for a month

i hope. as a flamethrower user, i am hoping it sees some change, which would be absolutely exciting.

Is this a bad time to get back into game into building a Daredevil direct damager and Support Tempest xD? maybe i should wait after lil balance patch ?

More frequent balance changes, however small are always welcome!

(but the further skill split part has me worried for a few things - will wait and see first, don't want to say anything and jinx it)
