how can anet make more money with PVP?

PVP is like the not so beloved child of Anet, while pve comes home with many friends and get straight A+ from the teachers. PVP comes home with broken pants and a wooden schield.

So how can Anet do some profit from pvp

what they done so far was

Finisher (which i feel they abandon kinda now)any more ideas?

thank u

Same ways they make money from PvE I would have thought. Obviously mount skins and gliders aren't useful if you only play PvP but I assume armour skins, weapon skins, outfits etc. are. Unless GW2 PvPers are all like the people I've known in other games who will respond to literally any question about character customisation with "Who cares what colour the pixels are? Will it make my attacks stronger?"

Although even then convenience items like bank tabs and shared inventory slots would come in useful.

"Make money"... "PvP"... I shuddered when I saw this thread. The idea itself to make money with a competitive game mode shouldn't be even considered in GW2!However, @Just a flesh wound.3589 's idea is quite interesting and I'd be up for it.We can already try a character at lv80 with all the core traits unlocked, why not adding also the elite specs? Maybe core players-only would be encouraged to buy the expansion after trying the elite. And I find fair that everyone has the same advantages in PvP. But renting it... idk. I'd just give 1 daily match free. If you want more, you buy the full expansion.

In order to make money with spvp the very first thing they would have to do is make the game mode self sustainable. That is in reference to the amount of players playing it who might generate revenue. Simply put, they would have to make spvp fun enough that a sufficient number of players want to play it for the game modes sake (not some rewards thrown in to make people grind it who dislike the game mode).

Once that is achieved and only then, does it make sense to consider further steps to implement monetization.

There is no profit in developing and monetizing a dead or unpopular game mode.

@shinjin.3924 said:Since the playerbase is only dropping, dropping dropping,i think no solution for make more money. As i already stated,gw2 need a total new refresh up.

PvP do need a refresh. Mostly new game modes. And it doesn't really help that elite specs are in most cases stronger than the core ones.It might be fun to actually throw the class balance away for a few seasons. Make random skills totally op across the board, buff random traits too and see what comes out of it.

But mostly game modes.

Support the game mode and the players will support them... Atleast that's my mentality....

I play WvW/PvP only, when I see a skin I like, I buy it from my CC as I have no gold income from in the game... Spent thousands upon thousands on the game but won't spend anymore till they fix PvP and WvW.

Just a list of deterrents:

  • HoT destroyed the small man guilds I was in
  • With destroying the guilds I was in, meant destroying all the credit card transactions I had made to build those guilds., naturally making me cautious about spending money on this product in the future.
  • WvW lost it's identity with server mergers and my pc isn't that great so now it's a constant lag fest every time I enter
  • Was told Alliances were coming
  • Took most of my annual leave to earn the Year Of Ascension as it was said to be a unique one each year meaning the first one was going to be prestigious.
  • Was told I could no longer play with friends against other teams in PvP
  • Was then told I could but only during my work hours or sleep hours and if I lost then I would have to wait hours again
  • Was told there was going to be improvements made to the ability to team queue again
  • Watched maybe a thousand items go through gem store with countless patches aimed at PvE including Living Stories and everything else
  • Get told that only PvE players spend money on the game and then I reflect back on my previous point as to why all the previous points exist in the first place and realize there's bupkiss for us in the future.

So TLDR: Support the game mode and the players will support them.

I'm not joking when I say this, I will buy Quip with my CC when Alliances come or the ability to team queue against other teams at my discretion and from that point on, I'll go back to spending $50-100 a fortnight again like I used too.... If TDM or DM came into PvP, I'd probably lose my kitten and buy invisible shoes to celebrate.

Sink time into the game mode. Introduce new game modes. Spice things up from time to time. Offer good in-game rewards. Do these things and players will buy gems, buy expansions and spread the word, which increases the health of the game.

Seems like they should know this. They just think the opportunity cost is too high.

EZ, you know how ANET can make EZ money again? Make an expansion/server which only allows you to use Core Specs in sPvP on this "Classic" server without taking away elite specs from other modes for the people who bought HoT and PoF. Price it at $60 and people will still buy it.I wanna see Countless style non-instaburst non-cheese juggle Mesmer, I wanna see Ostrich and Chaith landing 1200 range grenades. SOMETHING that will bring old players back AND something that new players won't find cancerous because at least you can count dodges and stun breaks back in the day.

TL;DR ANET, do a "Classic" GW2 expansion or server, easiest money that you can make right now when there's no good games out there. LITERALLY easy money and you can make a good amount of people happy and ESL might take your game back too.

Simple, put more into it!

And _not_in term of "e-sports", I'm talking about balancing more often, reworking skills more often, investing in fixing bugs and testing things more often, reign in the ridiculous powercreep of faceroll builds, bringing out new modes like freakin TDM or as I like to say, _actual_pvp. As an example, today in unranked, in both of my games, nobody even tried to cap. Everyone just kept fighting each other. I think that's a testament to just how sick and tired people are of conquest.

Still, frankly I think it's but a dream at this point.

Give players the option to customize further in custom arenas, similar to overwatch e.g. no cd on skills, +500% boon duration, +100% universal dmg increase. Allow players to customize their arenas with all sorts of crazy stuff and you will provide endless hours of fun. Attach a gemstore price to permanent ownership of a custom arena

To OP's, after 6 years of conquest & running around with no new game mods or maps other then conquest. There' s just no way i'm in the mood to make or give out money to Gw2 pvp. I already paid for the game plus delux version on HoT. At this point in time, My wallet is tap out when concerning Gw2. In the end prolly gonna give my money to some other mmo that get's it. I'll content myself with what i got & so should anet. Peace!

I would buy it, and old honour system.

Let's get weird on this one:

  1. Make a NETFLIX original documentary that details the point of views of devs vs. players on balance and how/why community toxicity comes to be and survives in an MMORPG competitive scene or any genre of gaming for that matter. Which leads to the 2nd suggestion.
  2. Stage controversial news that leaks into media and gets attention. The right type of controversy is good commercialism.
  3. A new game mode in itself that spurred a new era of competitive tournament interests could naturally create the effects of the 2nd suggestion through active streaming and any coverage really.
  4. "Not even sure if this is feasible by business standards" but Arenanet could choose another company and cross promote each other with some appealing function that is very similar to the idea of "If you played GW1 and tied your keys together, you get perks in GW2". Although this could result in an incentive for players to leave a particular game in favor of the other, this is why it would be important to chose the right company, maybe one that wasn't competing in the genre of MMORPGs. <- Something like this could seriously bring in a lot of new traffic to the game.
