http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vFAQFAWn0XC9XiNYCmOAcYilBAjoJkFKCur2X7tNIAEBKAA-jlxGQBEU53Q2fgeq/QuLAoDAAPAgJqEEA-wI've had great success with this build in carrying PuG groups, boasting greater healing and condi clear than druid with greater might/fury output, all without having to use food/util unlike druids. (And is viable in CMs with rice balls/bountiful oil).

Engage with Overload Fire -> Ice Spikes -> Magnetic Aura/Transmute Earth -> Eruption -> Conjure Lava Axe -> Lava Axe 4 -> Lava Axe 2 -> Overload Earth -> Transmute Earth -> Eruption -> Lava Font -> Ice Spikes etc.

  • Maintain might stacks by blasting in Lava Fonts/fields from the Lava Axe as you hop between Fire/Water/Earth.
  • Attune into Air to help breakbar with Gale as needed.
  • Swapping to Fire for Sunspot's Fire Shield or Earth for Magnetic Aura/Shouting/Pick up the second Lava Axe and Flame Leap through a fire field are your spot heals while not camping water.
  • Wash the Pain away as your big heal. Burst healing comes from combining above spot heals together and also from Ice Spikes into Water Field (or Frozen Ground) into Aftershock/Lava Axe 2 (and 5).
  • For projectile heavy encounters like Siren's Reef/Bleeding Fire/Outflank, swap Lava Axe out for Earth Shield to chain shared Magnetic Aura through staff Earth 3, Earth overload, Rebound in Earth, Aftershock and Earth Shield 3.
  • For extreme condi-clearing e.g. Toxic Trail + Afflicted, use Antitoxin over Monk's as necessary for 2 clears per aura/3 clears per transmute earth.
  • When less healing is required e.g. Arkk CM100, Scepter/Warhorn allows better might/fury uptime.

As much as Lava Axe is stupidly weak for damage, it's quite AMAZING through it's extra Fire Fields and Blast/Leap Finishers, letting you might/fury stack more as well as pumping out additional healing. The recent addition of Transmute Earth added much needed extra blast finishing [and condi-clear through Smouldering Aura] (as well as some token protection woop!) for additional might stacking which has also been further boosted by Overload Fire's might duration increases. The Smothering Aura trait has allowed for much greater opportunities to condi-clear while keeping Powerful Auras to provide heals from Sunspot/Conjurer/Lava Axe leap comboes and Overloading.

Your build looks like it would work well in wvw too though i think i would run earth shield over lava axe.

Powerful Auras allows healing from Elemental Bastion via Sunspot, Conjurer, Magnetic Aura, Overloads and Leaping from Flame axe.The heal amounts to 2k each vs the extra 360 per second the traited Soothing Mist. As damage comes in bigger packets I find it better to top up as needed to maintain Scholar Rune uptime than the extra oomph from Soothing Mist, plus you can't condi clear as well with Soothing Mist vs the Smothering Aura + Powerful Aura synergy.

Water Blast spamming obviously outdoes anything other form of healing if you dedicate to it full-time as a healbot but it's not necessary once you understand the rhythm of each encounter so you can make more might stacks.

For WvW, I still wouldn't run conjures though since it's too hard to get value out of them given the cooldown time and mobility meaning you often can't get the second weapon (unless you have TWO tempests then sure!). As for specific builds in WvW, it all depends on the team comp and what you need to accomplish be it Soothing Mist healbot or a more melee oriented engagement approach.

Edit: Antitoxin runes and the 10-man change to Earth and Water Overloads has boosted this Tempest Healing variant to be very formidable at condi-clearing.
