Any tips to farm HoT XP?

Its the only masteries im missing but as a fairly new player (i bought the game at the tail end of HoT, like a couple months before PoF dropped) i find it fairly difficult to find a good way to grind that XP (the mastery points themselves aren't a big issue), as the zones aren't super active and the amount of XP required is huge compared to PoF's ones.

I do metas when they're up/when i can/when there's enough people in the map to complete them but besides that i'm kind of at a loss. Farming smaller events is difficult as many don't feel like they are meant to be soloable, which makes them very tedious, when its possible to do so at all.

Kinda wish you could earn that XP in Fractals or other areas but i understand it would probably the nail in the coffin for these zones.

Also feel its weird that on the other hand the PoF masteries take absolutely no time to grind at all, which also cause the new zones to become dead fairly quickly, kind of a shame as i'd personally prefer spending more time in these than HoT ones.

That's the kind of tips i was looking for, ty. At least something i can do to progress a bit if nothing is going on or i just have a few minutes before work or something.

If you have access to episode 4 of LS3, which is Lake Doric, then do the leather farm. That’s currently the fastest way to farm HoT XP with the escort part of Dragon’s Stand at a far second. I haven’t looked at the LFG for that map in a long time so I don’t know how often people do that farm.

How many of the masteries and which levels thereof are you missing?

The Hot masteries took awhile to farm even when Hot was new and the maps were fairly active. Not that it's hopeless, just don't expect it to be quick depending on how much you need.

First:https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Experience#Experience_modifiers

1) Run Food and Utilities that offer extra experience boosts

2) Click On experience or Hero Banners dropped by guilds in various maps and be mindful of their remaining time, if you can't find any, check wvw spawns.

3) Go to the LS3 maps that offer purchasable "empowerments" Bloodstone Fen and Draconic Mons have these.

4) Run any other boosters you have at your disposable to up your experience fain.

5) Kill everything and do every event you encounter.

6) Monitor LFG for specific maps

7) Do the stories

Both story chapters and map exploration give a good amount of experience, especially if you have boosts/boosters active. Best if you can get into the mindset of not farming experience at all but just playing whatever you enjoy on these maps with whichever character you enjoy at the time. That way experience will come in no time, and you'll have fun along the way :) .

For once-a-day boosts check out the different adventures, too. Most of them take little time, and if you're good enough to grab silver or gold rewards they give a decent bit of experience in the daily chests.

If you enjoy an XP grind, crack on, but if you prefer it as a natural side effect I'd definitely recommend doubling it up with another activity, like completing any outstanding achievements or collections. While it may take longer, it comes while you're ticking off content that you may still wish to do anyway, and psychologically feels less like a grind.

Do the adventures. Every reward tier gives experience. Living World 3 Daily boxes also grants a significant amount of exp and are quick to do if you skip the bosses and event related dailies that aren't active.

Quick dailies:2 Bloodstone Fen (gliding abilities and unbound magic)1 Ember Bay (unbound magic)3 Bitterfrost Frontier (berries, defend one torch, unbound magic through swimming)2 Lake Doric (Peach Tree and unbound magic)? Draconis Mons (varies since these are randomly selected, usually fire orchids, unbound magic and volcanic diver)? Siren's Landing (same as before, usually Oyster or the Stranger dailies)

For future Masteries, I save all my daily boxes from the current Living World and then open them until I fill the unlocked exp bar.

Unbound magic one is pretty quick in Siren's Landing too. I've been doing these and the LS4 ones to farm quick karma and for obby shards.

Takes me about a min. Start at grenth WP and get the two on either side of it. Go west towards the glider area and get the one to the north end of the ledge. Just slightly to the north is a pipe that runs west to east with a break in the middle; it’s south of the dragon’s breath when it’s up just outside of range. There are three orbs in here. From there you hop out and go NE into the tube that goes straight down. The dragon’s breath follows a straight line to this pipe. You’ll collect three as you fall down with a fourth when in the water.

Events are one of the best ways to gain experience (not to mention all the additional benefits they also provide): To find them literally read the Meta on your UI, during the day or night, it is there to tell you what is happening currently in that area (The UI in-game meta, not the /wiki et meta, there are far more meta in each map than just the one over-arching main 'meta'). If you still have trouble, talk to a scout (they have strange pillar-like orange icons on your map, visible from anywhere). They are located at almost every outpost in Verdant Brink, Auric Basin and Tangled Depths. Unlike Scouts in Central Tyria maps, Scouts in HoT will point you to the current event/s going on in relation to the meta surrounding that outpost/area.
