Gear recommendations

Greetings all;

I just recently hit lvl 80 with my ranger and just started getting into the GW2 endgame. Must say that I enjoy dungeons and fractals a lot although I do get kicked from some groups from time to time due to my lack of experience, which is at times frustrating, but I understand those people.Anyhow; I'd love to get some gear recommendations for starters not to be a total noob during those runs and slowly work my way toward better gear. I was looking at Vigil tier3 gear, which is somewhat inexpensive and decent for starters. but would welcome any other suggestions as well.

Thank you

P.S.

If you also have some suggestions on how to be better at dungeons/fractal runs, shoot :D

Druid is the go to specialization for ranger in fractals and raids. It allows you to both heal allies and give boons to them while also having some CC capabilities with your pets.

Harrier stats is what you need for playing support, but harrier is a PoF stat meaning it's a little bit more expensive to get. A cheaper alternative in my opinion would be either giver, cleric or magi stats. Giver comes close to harrier because it's the only stat that includes concentration (longer boon duration), cleric has power unlike giver and magi and magi is the cheapest to craft. These stats are seen by some players as inferior to harrier because it lacks the high main power along with the secondary healing power and concentration stats, but it's a nice alternative to get you started on healing your allies in fractals and raids.

Lastly, I would recommend you check gw2efficiency.com. This site allows you to check many things, like world boss timers, farming material locations, but most importantly, price comparisons for specific gear types.

About the Gear:

Vigil armour has a decent skin but as far as stats go it won't get you far. For the price you are better off buying named exotic lvl 80 gear which also comes with better stats compared to cultural armor sets (Exotic > Rare)

About Ranger:

Ranger is in a very favorable position as the class is META in PvE and used in every iteration. Unfortunately, the best builds are locked behind the two expansions as the two elite specialisations - Druid and Soulbeast - are more or less required to fulflil the role properly.

A good start and the cheapest option is PowerRanger/PowerSoulbeast with Berserker stats (Power++, Precision+, Ferocity+) making use of the Rangers very strong burst openers. Longbow is certainly usable but falls short to the much more powerful Greatsword, Sword and Axe in the Ranger's repertoire.

If you have Heart of Thorns, Druid is another option: Druid is the best healer (as a general package, specialized picks easily outheal Druid) in terms of utility and offensive support. Magi Gear (Healing Power, Precision, Vitality) is about as expensive as Berserker's, but cannot be directly crafted and Minstrel's (Heart of Thorns) and Harrier's (Path of Fire) outperform it. Both Druid and PowerSoulbeast have the luxury of being a great addition to any team in fractals and even required by certain groups if efficiency is the goal.

Last but not least you can play CondiRanger/CondiSoulbeast. Condition damage is lackluster in dungeons and fractals by design of the encounters either being immune or too short to ramp up enough conditions. Nevertheless, Condiranger is an incredible robust DPS thanks to being very forgiving to play and using the range of shortbow. Main problem here, again, is that the best stat spreadout, Viper's gear, is Heart of Thorns content while the somewhat stonger CondiSoulbeast requires Path of Fire.

As a general rule of thumb users of this forum are in total more efficiency oriented thus my answers may reflect that opinion.
