Why does ascended PvP & WvW armour not work for legendary when it's (edit) Stat changed?

Erm, it does. oO You'll get a "Warning, this item is transmuted and will function in the Mystic Forge as X"Y4Eaxuw.jpgThis means I can still use it to forge the Legendary version of the item.However, it wont work if you have stat-changed it... Because stat changing will destroy the original item and substitute a generic Ascended Armor/Weapon piece with the Stat you chose.

Thanks, I thought it was when transmuted. I wonder if it could somehow be applied to stat changed armour though? Like with a "restoration kit" along the lines of an ascended salvage kit. It would be something we could spend our spare spirit shards on :)

Stat-changing by forging removes the item in question and creates a new one. That new one is a generic ascended (Illustrious armor set in case of armors). For your suggestion to work, Anet would need to introduce separate recipes for WvW and SPvP armors, ones that would work similarily to the current ascended armor stat changing ones, but give as a result a WvW/SPvP armor.No idea how hard would that be.

Well, the upgrading of the PvP/WvW Ascended Armor pieces to Legendary quality would do this anyway. That’s the point of those pieces, because they’re Precursors.It’s pretty common knowledge now that the Mystic Forge destroys what you throw into it. This info is easy to find. Offering “free” stat changes to those Precursor Armor pieces kind of makes upgrading them to Legendary quality almost redundant.

Nobody said free. Assuming you have spirit shards transmuting costs less than 10g anyhow, so maybe 3-5 capacitors (price of shard of glory would probably go up). The big thing is losing the chance to turn something into a legendary, and having to wait until you farm enough to complete your legendary while being stuck with ascended that you can't change, or having to make another set to get the stats you need.

Stat reset also wouldn't allow for rune changes unlike the legendary
