Siege Buildsite Contest Abuse

There's a few players that abuse siege and place them close to walls & structures with the intent to aggro guards and keep those structures contested (guards can see thru walls, but cannot actually shoot thru walls, so those ranger guards keep it contested).
Thats not really the intention of siege obviously, think the scene would be much better if enemy siege itself couldnt cause contests by itself (even if that meant ranger guards do not attempt to kill enemy siege, but only the enemies attempting to use them).

[Another more "fun" idea could be to make siege "neutral" faction, so any team can man them if they are currently unmanned. Lolz!]

This is really no different from a toon running by and getting shot at contesting the keep/tower.

The advantage for the defenders is, you can see and kill the seige to eliminate the ‘tapping’

And you at least know (mostly unless you check all areas) where the contesting is coming from.

  • Working as intended, please refrain from slandering a guild you know nothing about and instead of blobbing post some actual scouts.

I am afraid it is too late for that excuse now,we are already here and certainely amused about this so called fella that "knows" what we specialise on.

Just waiting to see how many more lies he will post.

WPs shouldn't contest until outer is breached. Drive by tagging, dropping siege or pulling critters into range are all BS troll tactics.

That would make it pointless to attack T3 unless you know there are no enemies on any border (funfun zerging vs no one) or you got 10-15 omega golems and an additional 6-8 rams or catas to punch through outer before anyone can react. its already nearly impossible to breach T3 with anything less than 30+ and the power creeped upgraded objectives completely grinds WvW to a full dead stop.

Either way its not going to make the gameplay of WvW any better.

If you want to avoid this, contest triggering on siege damage or when a door reaches 85% hp (to gather up the option of manmodeing a door) or when the lord is under attack (to gather up the possibility of sneaky thieves or mesmers) is a much better idea. It doesnt really stop contesting - 2 people can still build a ballista, shoot a door and run laughing away or something - but it does make it a little harder for single run-and-hide players (yeah we all know the type) and more of a team effort.

    Lol.. Post a scout.

The seige being present is a much better alternative to a tapper running by. You can at least see what is contesting.

I love when servers bring a Zerg to check why something is contested. Makes my day.

No it is a pretty fair tactic which you call troll because you aren't thinking fair,if your server is focused on blobbing down the enemy something's gotta give elsewhere.

Also I don't see you mentioning the spies your server is using, which there's no way to avoid or counter, double standards much?

  • I think the "troll siege abuse tactic" is a good thought out troll tactic honestly, but it doesnt actually add anything good to the game mode and is an abuse of the current system imo. Imagine if all servers and guilds used this tactic, it would make waypoints totally useless, and contested stuff would also just be a totally useless visual indicator.

I dont care much about spies, because I don't know about anyone spying, and it seems spies seem to be a natural occurance in the game mode. For me & my guild though, we decided spies remove too much of the excitement in the gamemode, therefor we dont do it and do not approve of it. We would rather lose fairly and have exciting fun, than a boring win.

That was a perfect shoe fit, hey?
Boy going defensive that fast, you know your tactics are shady.

The "neutral" siege equipment idea might actually be an interesting twist. It should have a "dismantle" option though, for the owner of the siege, that allows them to get some supplies back, and remove it. (Making it neutral would probably make it impossible to destroy, or would risk people damaging it by accident).
But yeah, this is mostly an issue with the AI. If they just made it "quit" and reset, or just switch the algorithm so it calculates the LOS before deciding to get aggro or not, and make the objective contested.

Can't help but see this as a legit tactic, clever use of mechanics.
I mean, you're mad they're not using it. That's kinda lol

They are concenrned enough about PPT that they want to be able to WP back as a group to check, yet don’t care enough to have a scout that could save them the trip and just look. Oh. And the scout could kill the seige.

I kinda like this. Might need to locate some areas to do this myself so the ones that are too lazy/entitled/focused get annoyed as much as the OP.

Response was over a post the OP made that was a lie he pulled out of his rear, which either he or a mod deleted.
And call my tactic shady or whatever you want, all I know is that there isn't a single site location he can't walk and autoattack it IN Melee.

What is a scout going to do? I routinely troll servers for hours with dozen plus trying to stop me. Trying to keep a thief from tagging a keep is near impossible. Even if they do catch me on a rare occasion, the run back to their keep is a minute due to the speed of a DareDevil. No single player should be able to lock up an entire servers WP for hours.

Sometimes I keep both keeps in EBG locked up. I frequently do it to draw players out into small scale fights. Nothing like a turn and burn on some guy so pissed he burns everything trying to keep up.

You remind me of a bandwagon commander that jumped around servers stealing resources and recruits and then jumping ship, and whenever someone accused him he always responded "I don't know you".

And it's been less years than the spying and sabotaging been going on,which is the main reason I came up with the anchor tactic to begin with.

I don't see you make a thread complaining that your server capitalises on underhanded tactics, but as soon something throws a wrench in your daily routine that requires to actively participate you make a post.

    Too much double standards lately.

I agree this is kind of cheesy and I'd be for them removing it but I don't see how it's really a big deal. If you don't care you're not going to care, and if you do care you're going to respond and clear the siege while you're checking the walls, which is the same thing you would have done if it had just been a drive by tap . . .

The scout can let them know it's a tap. There is more than enough time for a squad to get to ANY structure that is T2 it above with a decent call out.

Tap away. I do the same. If the commander on the other team wastes his time bringing the whole Zerg to check? That’s priceless and worth my time.

  • Keeping a keep contested is a good strat but you gotta admit its kinda dumb how easy it is to contest. A guard sees 1 dude or takes 1 hit or this siege tactic that i never really see used. It should be like 2 or 3 percent dmg to a wall/gate or something thats a legit threat in order to contest something. A lot of times a keep gets contested accidently from a roamer in a bl running from taking 1 camp to another. It is really a minor issue tho.

  • At most siege should have much less armor when left alone, but give them a "protected" buff when there's a player near it. Like with Dolyaks.

This way siege left alone will be quickly eliminated by guards instead staying there contesting the area.
