Legendary Armor Crafting: Changing Stats through Mystic Forge?

So I am slowly but surely working on my WvW legendary armor. I am not happy with the stats I chose first time around for the ascended items... I assume that if I were to change the stats through the mystic forge, the precursor items would be destroyed in the process and swapped to a different ascended item.

Is there another way to change the stats of the ascended precursors?

no, there isn't.and yes your assumption is correct. pres will be destroyed and in return you will get standard(craft) ascended.

Look at the bright side, once the legendary armor is done you can change stats to your hearts content.

As mentioned, absolutely do not reforge/change/rebuild what ever you want to call it your precursor armor in the forge. If you got the same armor type on your first set, you can always change that one. Only the second set from the second collection is the precursor armor.
