Is it me or is all pof content unrewarding

Recommended Posts

Compared to HoT maps, they're meant to feel slower. Before PoF was released, numerous players complained that HoT maps had nothing to do besides the metas, which required you to be online at a specific time. Anet listened to these complaints and thus designed PoF maps to be more about exploration and a variety of content, plus with the addition of mounts they made the maps more expansive.

Depends a bit on what you're doing. I think there are a few factors that contribute to the feeling of "low rewards": 1) the loot comes in a very diverse pile of things, unlike the popular farms that spit out big piles of single things like volatile magic + unid gear (istan) or bags of gear (SW). 2) many of the rewards are good on average, but have some variance included. Players don't seem to process random rewards very well, even if they are good/profitable. 3) the maps are structured to promote exploration, not just showing up at XX:45, doing the meta and claiming your bouncy chest. Which kinda goes back to a factor 1a - there aren't the "big" and automatic tangible rewards like an amalgamated gemstone.

That said, if you're tapping into all of the rewards available in PoF, then there are plenty of decent rewards to be had. Every trade cache that you open up is 10 silver. Do players open or run by? All of those ancient and ori nodes? Worth 9-10 silver/ea when you include the orbs (rich oris are near 30). Do players gather or skip? There have been GREAT material farms in PoF that exceeded the gold that you could get from the more popular farms - specifically the iboga/evergreen stones farm. The whole NW area in Desert Highlands seems to be tailor made for a powerful blood/vicious claw farm, but people threw out the PoF maps right away. Forged rain unid gear and have the chance for forged weapon drops. Warbeast recipes from forged champ bags still command up to 30 gold. I feel like awakened have really good drops rates for rares. Do players kill all of these things or tunnel vision events only? All of the chests scattered all about drop the usual unid gear, but also more orbs and freshwater pearls. And then we come to the even more random rewards - things like Caravan Accounting Records or Imperial Cask of Djinnspit which actually do show up rather often if you do events. Then there are the minis which range from the reasonably common and very obtainable specialization minis (some of which still exceed 50 gold), to the rarer creatures (mini iboga, jacaranda), to the super rate 5-10k gold junundu wurm and awakened abomination. Or the VERY rare music boxes, even though they can't be sold.

With all that said, PoF appears to just be a different reward philosophy than something like Istan and Silverwastes, or even HoT. And that variety in playstyle and type of reward is a good thing in my opinion.

This about sums up how I feel about PoF rewards as well. Other than the recently-nerfed Istan, there weren't the same "get tons of the same bag" farms all over PoF, but instead just working through areas killing/opening/mining turns out to be pretty rewarding. Just not visible in triple-digit piles of the same loot bag, is all.

I, too, like the added variety!

I got mine from one of the glorious chests on top of sanctum of nabhka. Worth parking a character there if you can. If you're doing a run of the other maps anyways, it's probably worth hitting the glorious chests in DH too near altar of dahkma, the elite wurm, and in the imp cave.

Is it? People kill the VB matriarch daily for her Amalgamated Gemstone, not because she drops something special. Likewise people like AB meta for its easy loot. TD meta... sure, I know some head there for the infusion, but I think most are there for keys & currency & chests to loot. By comparison, the Amnoon meta (collect coins, kill Piñata) has a chance to drop a 10k-gold minimum price infusion... and I've been on plenty of maps that don't bother with it, with far fewer LFGs than other metas in the game (sometimes none, but never more than one).

In contrast, the Kourna meta gets at least several times per day, even though it offers nothing but a dozen chests to loot (no known unique reward of which I am aware).

I think it's a combination of things. PoF metas are more involved and have a limited reward, compared to HoT metas we already can do in our sleep, with tons to loot. So the gold value per effort is too low to attract efficient farmers, the local currency can be more easily obtained elsewhere, and since people aren't familiar with it, it takes more of our attention.

PoF metas don't have a good Effort:Reward ratio... The only event people bother to do is Cassino Blitz in Crystal Oasis because it's easy and there is a fake chance of getting a Confetti infusion, which sells for 22k gold on rich people's market.

If you include the Living stories, you have some people doing Great Hall despite the nerf to chests (Since the actual profit come from the Phylacteries), and sometimes you see people trying for the Crystal Infusion (Valued around 10k) on the Death Branded Shatterer in Jahai Bluffs. Everything else (Including the current Palawadan) is just much effort for little reward which leads thye event to be dead.

@sorudo.9054 said:PoF at least keeps rewards like the challenge, not allot.

Not a lot of challenge? How often you complete Serpent's Ire? Maws of Torment? Even Junundu Rising is a pain to get people to do it... And the rewards are almost as garbage as any other event you can just solo elsewhere on the map (Unless you get a super lucky drop on Mini Junundu wurm)

Mouef, never visited again any HoT and PoF maps. Just do each ls3/4 ones for maps completion. Those are very flat and boring, uninteresting: jungle nightmare versus empty desert.

Strangely, going to sandswept isles everyday to farm crystals I love that map. (Even if something within me would have liked the original plan of the map: volcano at the north, inquest jurrasic park at the south.)-> Ton of events, easy to have crystals.

If you want "rewarding events":-farm istan. <- Cough cough-farm auric bassin <- okay-Tequalt world boss <- nice loot-guild missions <- GOLD-ley line anomaly <- gold

So one "big" reward event per extension.

The problem for me with the last two maps especially is that if you don't particularly care for the requiem armor set or those new blood dragon weapons, that's it. There is no other reason to go back there anymore after the story. The LS3 maps combined gathering and specific currencies for trinkets which can keep you busy there for a while. Also there are a number of things to do there for legendaries and such.

PoF may or may not be rewarding in the sense of gold/hour but I don't really care about that. I'm more into equipping my characters and getting different looks I like. I just happen to not like pink weapons and the requiem suits are just not well designed in my view. They're a bit of a mess and has some weird things on it. I dunno. Once I realized what it looked like in game when someone else was wearing it, I never came back to Jahai again. Thunderhead Peaks looks awesome, but also there, no reason for me to go back there. They really just need to do something about a lot of those armor designs and allow people to dye colour effects on weapons as to be able to match them with the color scheme of your characters. That's why I like Pharus so much.

For me, Anet doesn't even have to increase rewards for PoF. All they have to do is reduce PoF enemy aggro range from 900 to 600 like the rest of the game.

As much as I love HoT zones, they're terrible for playing solo when I want to. PoF would be perfect, except the aggro range single handedly turns the maps into absolute garbage. I stay away from PoF maps except when I absolutely have to. And when I have to do PoF stuff, I just quickly do what I need to do then get out ASAP. It's very disruptive having enemies so far away (that I can't even see on my screen) aggro, then when I kill them, more enemies aggro just before I can mount. I then kill those and before I can mount, yet MORE enemies aggro. SO FREAKING ANNOYING! I'm an open world player who would LOVE to explore PoF maps, but it is just not worth the constant annoyance.

Everyone makes good points but really you can't compare any pof meta in terms of reward because relevant items like funerary incense or amalgamated gemstones do not drop from metas. And if you're a typical player that needs those items you're gonna choose hot metas every day. Along with any other dailies you do. After all that why bother with pof dailies? You're out of time. Much as I enjoy them anet has unfortunately given us little reason to play them so long as older content is much more rewarding. It's a shame and actuality a very easy fix....

Champion bounties (not legendary) need elegy mosaics for a group of bounties or some REALLY compelling rewards. Legendary bounty trains could return but champion bounties never really gained favor. Maybe a higher drop rate of harrier ascended recipes (or pulsing brandsparks)would also help.

Serpent's Ire could get an improved reward as well, but the ascended harrier recipes sell for a few gold (it has dipped though).

Casino blitz in amnoon gets a lot more attention due to the coins' value for balloons.

Music boxes, intact mosaics, festive confetti infusion, a plethora of weapon skins and mini skins, armor skins to me, are fairly unique. Besides the usual weapon skin or mini or armor was else is there in HoT?

Anywayyy, here are my two cents. I started using TacO to farm map-specific chests such as Bleached Bones and others, as well as "grand" chests in each PoF as well as Sanctum of Nebhka daily. If you do every map (about a 2-3 hour daily depending on if you wanna go for the Grand/Glorious chests) you can make not that bad amount of gold. More importantly you can find unique music boxes which are very rare and account-bound, but a really cool gizmo. I personally like the anticipation of not knowing what the chests will drop. Another thing I really enjoy about opening these chests is you get to explore a lot of each map along the way. Soaring high in the sky with a griffon yields an amazing view of the whole place. Love it.

To be fair the drop rate for some of the things you mentioned is 1 in a 100,000 (0.001%)...
