The people who made the choice to do this to our devs, to our community, to our game are fools. This is some serious City of Heroes tier BS. I'm disgusted and heartbroken. This is a very hard to swallow pill at this particular moment. Game Directors come and leave. Developers come and leave. Also, Game Community Managers come and leave.
BUT at this moment a lot of simultaneous things happen and communication between Anet and players is more important than ever. ANet response - it let the Community Manager to leave !!! Sending a clear signal to the players that from this moment the community can very well bark to the Moon. With the same result as trying to reach ANet ears.
Look what ANet says about the future of the game and what they think about the players (highlight added):
We know you have a lot of questions about the future of Guild Wars 2. We want to share with you what to expect moving forward for the game. First and foremost, we are still fully committed to all of our players and ongoing support of the game. We will be moving directly from Living World Season 4 into Season 5 as promised, and we plan to continue a regular cadence of updates and releases.
We know Guild Wars 2 is important to you, and as our players, you are important to us. Rest assured that we are still working to add great new content to the game. We are deeply grateful to all of you for your support during this difficult time.
So, "We know you have a lot of questions about the future of Guild Wars". As a result we let the Community manager to leave. Until we will find a replacement (if we will find) please ask everything you want.
Then - "We know Guild Wars 2 is important to you, and as our players, you are important to us. Rest assured that we are still working to add great new content to the game".
I have serious doubts about "as our players you are important for us". Because look at what Ben Benjamin says on his blog: For those of use working on GW2, our mandate was essentially to make it look like there was the same level of resource devoted to GW2, when thyey astually steadily moving people off of it into the other projects.
This is how we are important? By delivering lies? What can you bring now to convince us that this time you speak the true? You can at least ask your Community Manager to try to communicate to the players and explain what your message means.
OH!! Sorry. We are alone now.
Farewell Gaile. At least don't delete your GW2 account. Who knows, maybe the players will still be able to speak with you ingame
I honestly got to say with the list of devs that have been announced to be leaving over the last couple of days, i got to seriously ask if its worth while to continue investing in this game at all, ( gems etc ) as we have no idea what is happening going forward, they just got rid of the main point of communication to the forums etc, giving the general feeling around social media, Anet/GW2 is on a slippery slope at the moment, which is a shame.
Anet need to massively up their game when it comes to communication with us, the wall of silence really cannot continue, i guessing that alot of things are going to be scrapped now ( future raids, JPs, Alliance system WvW, overhaul of sPvP )
Good Luck to the devs who gave us a great game over the 14/15years
Don't say what you mean, it will get you in trouble.

Good Luck Gaile
Wrong, Gaile did not speak to us because she was such a nice person, she did because her managment told her to do so. there are PR departments for a reason. comunication will probaply be the same (lets put aside if that is positiv or negativ), but comming from another person(s).
sad to see someone prominent go though, even i have no personal feelings attached to her.

I agree she was told to, as it was her job, but you didnt see any other dev showing up, the PR team for this game has been a disaster for years now, they have never got it right, and tended to do damage control after the bomb went off, point is, people know Gaile because she did communicate with us, we have been asking for years for better communication and this is what Anet decide to do instead, they are all over the place, having talked to a few friends that i game with, it is probably best not to invest any money in this game until Anet get on here and give us a clear road map of what they are planning, as right now it feels like tomorrow it will be a post stating we are closing the servers down, thanks.
According to a post on reddit Anet let 100 devs go, so it would be nice for Mike O'Brien to come on here over the next few weeks and give us a road map of what will be happening, we needs comms from the very top on this.

As a former member of a GW1 community (The Boat Crew) that started to log "frog talk" and Gaile's appearances in LA, long before there was any official forum, twitter or reddit, I want to say thank you for all the community relations work of the past 14 (?) years. Usually the ones that were part of Arenanet for a long time.

So sad to see you of all people having to go.

If I could express one thing to Anet and MO, it’s that most of us would not judge them if they decided to walk back letting Gaile go. She may not want it back, and that would be fine, but I think they didn’t realize what an impact this would be when they pulled the trigger on letting her go.
Gaile has been a part of the Guild Wars community since day 1, and from a customer relations perspective there is a lot to say about keeping that same face until she either wants to leave of her own accord, or until the series ends. She has been the same voice calming folks, like the ones freaking out right now, since the first whining of OP Warrior Monks in PvP. She would be exactly the person the community needs right now to let everyone know the game is fine, will continue forward, and it’s fine to buy gems once more.
Gaile you will be missed. I remember seeing you ingame and having a good chat and a message sent that I saved since the beginning of the game. You were equally awesome from all those years ago in GW1.
I feel that Anet will loose support because of these moves
All those people wondering what the "RIP" posts are about with regards to GW2? This.
Gaile was with ArenaNet for 18 years and one of the best parts of it. She was our community liaison. Of all the people to let go, for "revenue purposes", you chose poorly.
I saw a list of names of cuts. Not going to lie, I don't pay attention much to who works at ArenaNet, but even I know who Gaile Gray is, big loss for the community. I don't really understand how we're supposed to have faith in this game anymore when you're cutting people who are such a big part of the community that even casual gamers like me know who they are. It's funny, I was debating whether or not I really wanted to invest more money into this game, and I had decided I would still put in a few bucks every month, budget allowing, but now I once again have to rethink this stance.

While Gaile Gray is irreplaceable i now wonder if her position will still be taken into account to another individual cause the work she did was very significant to the community...

Imagine kittening losing Glint and Gaile (and a hundred or so other heavy hitters) back to back.
Wish you well as well. Go get 'em, you're going to bring some sunshine to your next venture.
The worst part is I can't be mad at Arenanet for blundering this. This seems to have come from higher up, where the money we spend on GW2 ultimately ends up.
The "Balance" is a fantasy -- another mortal superstition.
I'm so sad to hear the news regarding your departure Gaile. You've been such a strong force for the community over the years. I know it's hard but try to remember one door closes, another door opens.
This breaks my heart. Gaile is irreplaceable. She made it a point to help all of us that she could, to support the game, and keep communications lines as open as possible.
Perhaps she was offered a voluntary leave package and accepted. It has been 18+ years. It may be time to rest, and just be a player. We can all get a bit taxing...:)
If that was not the case, whoever decided to let her go..."chose poorly".
I hope someone can get these sentiments to Gaile (if she doesn't just check them out herself)...and show them those who may have decided to let her go how WRONG they were...
Gaile...fair weather and safe travels...until we meet again.
Always willing to help others if I am able. Catch me in-game. I'm a dirty-casual with 2 kids in college, so I am on at odd times. lol

I hope that's the case, and she has no obligation to comment on this issue, but I kinda wish she would confirm/deny, because to be honest I've been pretty sanguine about this whole affair, but any company that "let's go" of an employee of 18 years deserves harsh criticism. ANET was founded in 2010 so that means Gaile has been there from almost the beginning. How could you toss someone like that to the curb? Someone that loyal and steeped in the company's culture should be regarded as a treasure.
I don't know her as well as many on this board, but anyone with a brain and common sense would perceive this is a very foolish move to make, assuming they tossed her and she didn't leave of her own volition.
Goodbye Gaile been a long time since la gw1 and your events and prizes EVEN NOW I MISS STUFF FROM GW1 as i will miss you good luck for your future and fare well.
I haven’t been in game for a while now, so long that my forum presence seems to have been wiped, but I’ve played since Prophecies. I have a lot of good memories with Gaile in LA and elsewhere. I was finally rebuilding a new computer and thought I’d get back in the game, but this really takes a chunk out of that.
Goodbye, Gaile. Even this old Presearing/WVW hound will miss you.
To those saying this is the end, just stop. It's sad to see many devs leaving, but when a company accrues bloat, it has to at times cut the bloat. Kudos to senior employees who fell on the sword, knowing they'll find work in the industry. I'm sure Gaile is one who falls into this category.
But is this the end of GW2? No. 300 employees working on GW2 is still one of the larger studios in the nation, and resources will continue to be poured into the game. It doesn't mean the game will ever be perfect, but no game is until we look back at it after it ends through rose-tinted glasses.
Good by Gaile. I have seen couple of forum moderators in a couple of games. I think Gaile is one of the best if not the best. GL to you Gaile. The forums will not be the same without you 😭
On another note, whoever, at Anet, has been handling the communication regarding the layoffs/patch delays is doing the equivalent of scoping gasoline on fire. Maybe they should be laid off instead of the competent generally liked community manager...
imo some people are cogs on a wheel. Gaile is the actual wheel, she will be missed by many more than she will ever know. Even though she was part of the GW team she was always one of us in her heart. I sincerely believe she has always wanted the best of both worlds. The best for Guild Wars and the best for the player base.
Best wishes, Gaile. Being the public face of an MMORPG is a challenging role and you made a pretty good fist of it for a very long time. Unfortunately, I imagine it was that very longevity that did for you in the end. Experienced and long-lasting employees don't come cheap.
Good luck to whoever takes on the job - assuming anyone does. Maybe the whole thing will devolve to NCSoft now as part of their takeover of PR and Marketing.

Gaile, words can not express how sad I am. I have spoken to you several times over the years and remember fondly all of the interactions we had in GW1 and 2.
The franchise will not be the same without you.
While Gaile Gray is irreplaceable i now wonder if her position will still be taken into account to another individual cause the work she did was very significant to the community...
If I could stop giving them money twice, I would.
Farewell Gaile. You will be missed.

Goodbye Gaile. This is the end...
Dear Gaile,
Thank you for all that you have done! This community will be left with a huge void without you, and will never quite be "the same".
Best wishes to you! I hope all of your future endeavors are fruitful and blessed.
Guys, can we all agree to set up a NEW Farewell to Gaile? (https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Farewell_to_Gaile) She's been family since before the Searing.
