Suggestion for new content “Living Map”

Currently the new maps added with Living Story releases have been great, but have lacked content worth returning for. They just lack reason to return for most. I wanted to suggest a new idea for a map with the idea that it’s actually alive, and you can influence it through daily activities. It would be a player and community driven thing.

The idea simply put would be having a map that starts out small, and has open areas, and multiple NPCs around. It would be a large area, but would gradually be built daily by players helping the NPCs. The reason for doing this would have to be story related in some way, so having a scenario where we explore distant lands in search of allies to take down an Elder Dragon would work.

There would be events involving gathering resources, and bringing them to NPCs. There would be a resource bank in the city that would have a bar that was player specific, and had a daily cap. A player would see their daily contribution. The way they would fill the bar is through multiple ways. One would be by doing events in the map and getting treasure, one by bringing daily required mats, items spread around all of Tyria from Meta events, and an option at getting a special item from a Dungeon, low Fractal, or Raid boss.

The event items would be things like kill a champion for his hidden stash of riches to buy supplies for the city, defending the city and picking up dropped supplies from enemies, and scavenger hunts. The main resource gathered from events would have a cap for the player, and you’d stop getting it to turn in, but the events would give more currency up until a diminishing return would hit for that day for 24 hours.

The daily required mats would be items crafted by any crafting discipline. It would be things like low to mid tier items so anyone could do it, like weapons, swords, meals, etc. Doing this part of the daily contribution would give a great amount of crafting experience daily to help anyone level the crafting discipline they wanted. Turning in mats would also give karma, but there would be a cap of 5 builds to turn in daily.

The daily items part from around Tyria would involve specific daily items that could be from any Meta in all of Tyria. It would be three Metas on a daily cycle, and doing these Meta events would give extra rewards that day, and resources to turn in for the map. This would bring life back into the whole game. Especially for areas with harder to complete metas.

The Daily centered around a Dungeon, Fractal, or Raid boss would be an option to do either. It’s just do anything you chose. The Dungeon, Fractal, or Raid boss would have increased rewards for that day too.

Since the player would have a daily bar to fill, then the player could choose which of these 3 main tasks they wanted to do daily to cap their bar. This would allow people with restricted time schedules to still enjoy the map, and help it progress. You would however get more gold, and the option to keep doing things like events for fun, and to help the community.

After typing all this out, you’re all probably wondering what the point would be. The idea I have would be a rewards tier system that would reset every week in the map. You’d get a currency for participating every week. It would take a whole week to reset, and based on the map’s progression, and the player’s contribution daily, you’d get currency in tiers . The vendor would have a lot of items. The map would have a specific mount skin for all types of mounts, and a few gliders to unlock. It would also have mini pets, weapon skins, an outfit, an armor set, and an option to cash out for money instead if you already had everything.

People would also be asking how hard is this, and if it had a chance to fail, and the answer is yes, and no. There would be no way an event could destroy the city, but failed meta events within the map would slow down daily progression.

How it works for servers would be another question, and the way it could be done is having a big server like Sea of Sorrows be in one map, then group smaller servers into one map. This would allow all servers big or small to succeed. If the server idea is too much, then have just one big single map server for a region.

Also this could count as an area that has the Living Story crew in it, and would be a quest starting point.

I love this game and community so much, and would like something like this to bring life back into the game, and build new communities. I know it may sound impossible though. I just wanted to post the idea for a living map that players influence, and brings life back into all zones that have been forgotten.

tl;drA literal living map that resets weekly as you build a castle, fortress, or whatever. A map that involves doing events around the whole world of GW2, and brining life back to metas, dungeons, and a way to bring back a strong community. Focused on daily PvE tasks, involving Dungeons, Fractals, and Raids. Crafting dailies to help level up. Meta event dailies, and events within the zone. Daily Meta events around the GW2 world. Choose your way to do your daily, anyone can do it. Get rewards like mount skins, gliders, weapons, toys, weapon skin, armor skins, an outfit, or currency to pure gold. Dailies made for people with time restrictions as well that can be done quicker, and allow them to get the weekly rewards.
