What exactly constitues a heal for triggering the barrier from Superior Rune of Sanctuary?

I bought a set of Superior Runes of Sanctuary for my thief on the incorrect assumption that barrier would proc from the healing of Invigorating Precision but, looking at the descriptions for the two things, I have no idea why this doesn't work and what other sources of healing will and won't work with the Rune.

"Heals" usually refers to Heal skills being used. In this particular case, it may also refer specifically to external healing.

That being said: Are you sure that you're critting consistently enough to proc Invigorating Precision? and dealing enough damage with it that 2% of that damage is mathematically significant? and frequently enough that the Barrier doesn't dissipate before stacking?

Yep, quite sure. I've got 96% crit chance and, according to the log, am healing for a couple of hundred points on most hits.
