Buying Guild Wars 2

I know the game is dying, but I have a friend and I wish to invite him to GW2 using this new 50% discount. If I buy from website using my account, will I be able to give her the key as gift? Or she will have to buy it herself.

If bought through the web store you will receive a key via email. You can then send that unused key to your friend to use. This will not work if you purchase it via the in game store (that option is only available if you don't already have the expansion anyway).

And, FYI, the game is not dying.

You can invite your friend to make a P4F account whilst waiting for the Serial Key. They will have to make an account to use it, anyway.

I must admit that I had to check quickly that I was really on the GW2 forums, since "game is dying" is a recurrent theme in the SWTOR forums. (I'm told by people who were on the SWTOR beta forums that "game is dying" was a thing before SWTOR even released.)
