GW1 account linked to GW2, is it worth it to get Nightfall and progress more in GW1?

Recommended Posts

I just got access back to my GW1 account, and I never had the Nightfall expansion. I played a long time on GW1 and I think I'd enjoy whatever perks I get from account linking, but I don't really understand them.

Is it worth it to buy Nightfall? Do I need to? How much of a time investment and what sort of payoff would I get? Any help or direction would be appreciated

All rewards available from linking with GW1 are aesthetic, so it depends on how much you value the skins and minis.. you can check the rewards via https://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=main&details=1fjBA8%2F%2F%2F%2FD47%2F7%2F%2Fr%2FHAE9BErOAAAAAiMkQQAAAAAA

Last skin reward is at 30 points ( Which isn't a massive grind, but it's still a grind unless you enjoy GW1) the remaining 20 points just give you titles and is a rather big grind at this point. You'll need NF to get a few of the easier title tracks and DoA weapons

If you enjoyed playing Guild Wars and want to play more of that, with different stories, class options, and heroes... or just want a different game to play, then yes. Nightfall is fantastic on its own and an excellent expansion to Guild Wars.

If you're only buying it for achievements in Guild Wars 2, then no, let it go. Playing through an entire other game you don't want to play will always feel like a slog.

As far as what, exactly the "linking" rewards are, you get up to: Four exclusive Ranger pets (which are reskinned versions of existing pets), one unique skin for each weapon and armor class, and several prestige titles. You can read more about it here, and here.

Nightfall introduces Heroes, many of which are easy to obtain at the beginning of the expansion. From what I understand, it's common for new characters to make a beeline directly for EoTN and Nightfall (even durring Prophecies/Factions) specifically to pick up these heroes before resuming the story, since they're so much better than henchmen.

Heroes definately make the game much less of a slog, especially after being ambushed for the 5 millionth time by a devourer patrol.

Google around for hero builds because there are certain combinations that are overpowered and basically allow you to rage through content quite easily. In particular, Ritualists, Mesmers and Necros are staples of your team build.
