Not Leveling past 80 Since Boost

Recommended Posts

I bought PoF and applied my Lvl 80 boost to my lvl 45 character 5 days ago. Since then I've been playing non-stop. Only thing is, my now lvl 80 character hasn't been leveling, nor does she show any xps gained at all on the progress bar, it's just blank. Only thing she's been getting is points for the Raptor's skills. Is this normal? If so it's getting boring pretty fast. This never happened before till I used that lvl booster.Any helpful explanation please?

You have to unlock gliding by doing torn from the sky hot story to be able to get mastery levels and once you leveled all those up you will get spirit shards again mate.EditSince your talking about raptor kills is it pocket raptors from heart of thorns or raptors in core tyria?Either way you have to do first few missions in heart of thorns or path of fire to unlock masteries.

As others have said, you already reached the level cap. In this game vertical progression stops at level 80, and from there you can only progress horizontally by leveling masteries (and unlocking elite specializations). You need do the first story instance of Heart of Thorns in order to unlock the Maguuma masteries (gliding, mushroom jumping, ecc.), and the first story instance of Path of Fire in order to unlock the Crystal Desert masteries (the mount ones). Then all the experience you gain is used to level up said masteries. Once you have completed all the masteries, your experience goes to collect a type of currency (don't remember the name) that you can use to buy stuff from the Mystic Forge vendor.

1) Lvl 80 is max lvl (If you are max lvl and have all available masteries in the current region finished, your exp go to spirit-shard acquisition)2) Exp now goes into Masteries.3) Masteries are different per Region

  • Tyria mastery (Pact-Mastery, e.g. auto-loot, ...): core maps of the base game + LS2
  • HoT masteries (gliding, ...): HoT Maps and LS3 maps
  • PoF masteries (all the mounts, ...) PoF Maps and LS 4 maps

To improve your Raptor mastery you have to play on PoF/LS4 mapsTo improve your Pact-Mastery, e.g. to get auto-loot you have to play in core-Tyria or Silver-Wastes or Dry TopTo improve your Gliding, ... you have to play in HoT or LS3 maps

In Hero Display-bottom tab you select the masteries your exp will fill if you play in the corresponding region. When a mastery-bar is filled you need to spend Mastery-Points to complete it. You get Mastery-Points either on map or via story or via special achievements (2nd last tab, in your Hero Display).

Part of the philosophy of GW2 is that there's no point eternally increasing in lvl. You'll get to lvl 90, and then what? GW2 takes a horizontal progression approach: Once lvl 80 is reached (and let's be honnest, until then it's only a "tutorial"), you now level up masteries in the order you want. You will never go past lvl 80 but you will learn to mount your raptor, others mounts, gliding, that sort of things.

On your blank progress bar problem though, THAT is not normal. It should have been replaced by your mastery bar. Check your mastery window in your Hero pannel and see if one of them is enabled. If not, then simply clic on the one you want to train. Note that once the bar is full, you will need to manually unlock the mastery, using mastery points which are gained through mildly difficult challenged through the world.

Thanks for all the help.

I was playing the core game for free as far as it would allow me but wanted to open the rest of the game world and access the Auction so GW2 Support suggest I by one of the 2 game extensions since they don't sell GW2 core game any longer. So I bought PoF to get the mounts. I had no idea GW2 had changed the way you have to play to continue advancing. WoW wasn't so complicated... buy new game updates and continue playing as always. Wanting to continue playing GW2's new content is like having the whole game I have become comfortable with now turned upside down and learn to play it in a whole new way.

Guess I'm stuck in the desert. I tried going back to finish playing through the original game core content but now I get this big black message box in the lower left corner of my game window with it's bouncing bright yellow arrow telling me I have to go back to PoF to finish up my raptor mastery. I already have mastered some of them but not all. but I'd like to go back and fourth freely without feeling I've lost my freedom to play as I want when I want. This just feels like I'm being forced to follow-the-path. Doesn't feel like the original GW2 I've become very fond of

Ok, well thank you for the enlightenment. Wish I had this knowledge before I bought PoF.

You can just ignore that notification. It will come up periodically but it won't prevent you playing any part of the game you choose or continuing to get hero points to unlock your characters elite specialisation and mastery points for the different mastery tracks (the Core game has it's own masteries which are different to PoF).

You won't gain any more levels but that would have happened when you reached level 80 anyway, no matter how it did it or what version of the game you owned because that's always been the level cap.

@Danikat.8537 That pop-up does bother me and it's hard to ignore since it's very animated and partially covers the chat window. When I turn it off it just comes right back up a few minutes. They should have minimized that feature so others like myself (searched on this and there are quite a few complaining about it also).

Feel free to go back to central-Tyria the pact-mastery leading to auto-loot is very convenient as well.https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Central_Tyria_mastery_tracks

Oh... I was wondering about why so many others had extremely high numbers next to their names. Also, thanks for the extra page on Central Tyria Mastery Track.

I've never had it show up, even once.

It only happens under very specific circumstances. First you have to have an 80th level character on your account. Second you have to have a full experience bar. And you have to have not unlocked masteries at all with any expansion. The odds are you were 80 when the expansion came out and when you bought it you started the story. So you never got that message.
