WP Decided to Focus on the Scrapper

I disagree with his general assessment of the recent changes. He suggested that recent balance patches have made scrapper more useful in PvE. Maybe in open world, but not in any other scenario.

Its less useful in pve. The whole profession mechanic is just a utility or trait all the other healers have aswell.
Bulwark gyro doesn't work on most relevant mechanics. It's only good for giving superspeed on escort or river. Thats it. That was also the only reason engi was used at a whole in the raid tournament.
Even holo brings nothing to the table in pve. Reaper is at least sturdy and great solo but what exactly is holo supposed to be? An inferior dh / weaver without any useful party utility.

The point of this video is to present an elite specalisation. He made one for each profession, he didn't "focus on scrapper".

I think WP did a good job on highlighting some of the things that the new Scrapper brings to the table. I think a few slight tweaks still need to be done in order to put Scrapper in a good place. for Impact Savant, one of 2 things needs to occur:
    1) because of the -300 vit, increase Impact Savant's damage to barrier from 15% to 20% or 25%. 20% might be a sweet spot, but testing of this would be necessary to make a final determination.
    OR
    2) Old Adaptive Armor functionality brought back, placed into the Grandmaster Minor slot (with a -300 vit and +300 toughness), nerfed to only grant around 624 Barrier or so on hit, and Impact Savant to be the Grandmaster Major selectable trait, and nerfed from converting 15% damage to Barrier to 5% damage to Barrier (adding in granting -20% condition damage while barrier is active and having the damage to barrier effect extending to condition damage as well).

Either of these changes would be great for the flavor of the Scrapper being a "tank" or duelist. Then, Function Gyro would need to have its HP increased because as it is currently, it gets one shot even by weak attacks. It rarely gets a chance to do what it's supposed to do.

But all in all, WP did a good job with the video.

The greatest enemy to improvement, is ignorance. But the desire to learn will cast ignorance into the fire.

  • I miss the old function gyros being able to res/finish an opponent. It was a very unique thing to have.

  • Great video and good descriptions. I think scrapper is pretty good at dueling and outlasting his enemies.

Maybe go commander or sentinel armor and kitten people off in wvw lol.

Pretty fun annoying spec. I like the new scrapper now than the old one. Hopefully they give core and holosmith some love.

    Scrapper is fun.

  • As someone who stubbornly mains PvE scrapper, I have one take away from WP's two new scrapper build videos. It is time for Engineer to be given weapon swap like other classes. WP made it clear that a single kit choice requires its own traits/build. So strong builds for Engineer are not versatile multi-kit builds... so the lack of weapon swap just makes Engineer less versatile compared to other classes, and the sacrifice doesn't create class balance. Strong Engineer builds should not be so single note and so limiting in play style.

I am stuck with a mediocre flamethrower/grenade scrapper build for versatile open world/story play... because to trait for both kits prevents me from me properly traiting for either. At least give me weapon swap so I can have a hammer/rifle scrapper.

  • I been researching and testing stuff. Yea I was wrong.

Old scrapper was a better tank than this mew scrapper. This new scrapper does nice damage but the traits don't support a tanky build.

Some of the problems is that the barriers are not good enough to absorb burst damage.

If scrapper is supposed to be tanky, they got to be able to resist burst damage and condis. Call it over powered but I think scrapper really sucks now.

Their burst damage is nice with daze bolts but after that initial burst scrapers are true useless fighters at doing damage.

Scrapper doesn't seem very good. The talents sound nice for supporting and some damage or cc. But their tackiness really sucks.

This is trying it on eve spvp and solo content. I am not feeling immortal which is what scrapper should be good at.

  • Well, about tankiness:
if you go full berserk + eagle-rune (or scholar) with shredder, bulwark and U (or B or S), take object-in-motion and applied force + firearms and explosions you have constantly 8k barrier Up. This works especially when a lot of mobs are there e.g. in META event maps. I had no problems in those maps. Even works with champs and soloing group-events somewhat, if some mobs are around. Also not really difficult to play. ^^

In open world, where enemy's behavior is predictable and not a OHKO, yes, scrapper is pretty good. But it suffers badly in high end fractals and raids because its DPS is lackluster, and can easily get taken down by a spike of damage. This is nothing to say of WvW or PvP.

That is correct. I had a test on the golem once and did something like 1/3 of a DH, if I remember correctly. In fractals it would probably fair a bit better if not all fractals would have the single big bad boss at the end but a larger groups of vets/champs.
But I'm also doing everything in PvE except Raids and Fractals, so that's fine for me. ^^

In PvP it would also only work in group fights. I did win against some people at WvW roaming, but that was mostly stunlock and their surprise/inexperience. In WvW zerging the build is great, though. ^^

Been playing for hours. Scrapper defense is useless.

Honestly the best thing they can do for scrapper is give scrapper more support, boon sharing, utility, and healing to allies.

I am making a scrapper and for WvW they are nice cleansing healers. But man their tankiness sucks. Their damage is ok.

Support scrapper would be the best viable build you could go. That or healer scrapper.

Agreed. I got more use out of healing scrapper in all game modes than I ever have for an offensively-oriented scrapper.
